That reminds me of a great dice i saw early 70's at Snetterton between Les Nash and John McDonald both in Anglias i was a flaggie at the beginning of Coram , which was then infield side behind an earth bank.

The bank was being worn away each lap as they got closer to it in thier dice , now that was when marshalling was at close quarters not miles away as now .

I googled Les Nash cos of my bad memory blush.gif and it only mentioned an Imp and a Lotus Cortina, none of which I remember as being the Purple People Eater.

Les Nash still races a purple Lotus Cortina today, the Purple People Eater. There was also his purple Camaro in the late 70s ASCAR.

Snetterton 5th March 1967.

The yellow Radio London MRS F3 Brabham BT21s of Harry Stiller and Tony Lanfranchi. Norman Foulds' Bridges entered BT21 behind.

Roger Taylor's 'East Anglian Racing Cars' Anglia Lotus twin-cam. Roger always had the best bits so my Dad told me. His father was high up in Ford UK at Dagenham.

Andrew, I suspect that by then Roger Taylor was running something like 1820cc with that TC. Silver with a red stripe IIRC. I remember Oulton and Snetterton used to vie for who had the earliest "season opener".

You could be right on the cc Roger. In '67 I'm sure Taylor's car had gone a bit more light blue than silver with red stripe - the earlier 65/66 Peer/Taylor cars were silver. Yes, Snett and Oulton always seemed to start first..but I do recall going to some Brands Jan & Feb meetings! One at Brands was snowed off I recall.

Re the MRS Brabhams in the photo I think there BT18's or BT16's. The side of the windscreen on a BT21 is level not curved like the BT18 and its predecessors. Harry Stiller did switch to BT21's but they were blue with white stripe with red edging similar to the works Titan colours.

James, I think that Lanfranchi's car [#6] is a BT21, based on what you are saying. According to Autosport, Stiller used 'last year's car' [a BT18] at this race, because the second of his BT21s was not yet ready. That would bear out your observation of the curved bottom edge to the screen. Stiller bought two BT21s, and they were run by MRS, in yellow, in the first part of the season. He took them to Charles Lucas's outfit later in the year, which is when they were painted in Titan colours.

Foulds's car is, I think, a BT15, though it might well have BT18 bodywork by this point in its life.

Thanks for the picture Andrew, any more F3 from that meeting?

Ah right, the programme has them down as Brabhams, no type nos.
No more from that meeting I'm afraid.

Roger's father was Deputy M.D. of the Ford Motor Co. The Anglia provided Roger with 31 outright wins & numerous lap records.

Chris agree your right (as usual) re the Brrabhams, having had a closer look, car number 6 clearly a BT21.

Indeed, Glyn. It's the Baillie car from the Guards Trophy meeting, 30th August 1965, when he finished fifth behind Brabham, Pierpoint, Sears and Gardner - the first two in Mustangs and the second two in Lotus Cortinas.

Thanks for the confirmation Alan as I answered purely from memory rather than cheat and check with Frank de Jong's site or look through the race programme. This race meeting is the one fondly remembered for Jim Clark taking his brain out and two and three wheeling his Cortina around the track until he had to pit rather urgently via the Bottom Bend entrance and of course be disqualified for his efforts.

Where were you spectating that day Alan, as we (Mum, Dad and my sister) were in the last of the old temporary stands at the top of Paddock Bend as wehad been for the previous two Guards Trophy meetings.

Blimey Glynn, your memory astounds me!!! I was at the meeting, but cannot pinpoint facts that you can, must be something in the local Brands water that I drink!!! lol.gif Now if I could find my programmes, I could be equally accurate, and maybe even read my notes, but I know that would constitute cheating!!!!! Alan remembers more than me, and his local track was Oulton!

I wasn't at the '65 Guards meeting, Glyn/sterling, although I had gone the year before. As Glyn hints, the details come courtesy of Frank's site.

I recently rediscovered some of the slides I took as a teenager at the 1984 and '85 Dutch Grands Prix. Sadly, most of them were scandalously overexposed - the pictures themselves that is, not the objects on them... - but I found a few really nice ones.

From 1984, cars on their way to the parc fermé:

The other photos can be found here: http://8w.forix.com/zandvoort/nl84

And from 1985, a few pictures taken during the Sunday morning pitlane walk:

And Rosberg's Williams-Honda before the Honda engine became reliable...

Brands scaffolding again, with a Hartwell Imp undercover, but not sure who the driver would have been. There is a nice A40 at the top of the photo, looks like it is waiting for a few gallons of Shell 5 Star

Note the improvised wheel chock! The Brands paddock was on quite a slope.

At last, more photos from Rob B to drool over.

The Imp is probably Ray Payne's and the A40 looks very much like Peter Bevan's.
I also remember the car at top left, is it John Brittans MG Midget?

I think the Photo comes from c1965/6 from memory.

The Hartwell Imp was listed as black & white in the 1965 progs, driven by an A.D. Taylor (Anita Taylor?)
My first thought was Ray Payne though.
