Totally off-topic...

I was in a restaurant in Toronto about 10 years ago, and after being asked if I'd like to see the dessert menu (to which, of course, I said yes...) the waitress came over with a Viewmaster, complete with 3D images of chocolate gateau, cheesecake, etc, etc. clap.gif

I can't remember what dessert I chose, or what it tasted like, but I've always kicked myself for not trying to nick the 'dessert menu'...

Well, these were were not exactly taken by me, but my father.
Except for a few Laudas I only have the contact sheets to scan at the moment. Maybe when I will have more money again blush.gif I will develop the best of them, as well as the few hundred more slides. Lol
I'm sure y'all figure out who's who...
Oh btw that angelic looking youngster getting Stommelen's autograph in 74d-15 is yours truely. I still look the same.......sort of.......minus the hair of course ambivalent.gif

As they're fairly big I have put them here:

Robert C do you have more photos from the British Saloon Car Championship (1963-1973) in your archive of brilliant photos. I only ask because I am trying to build models of some of the cars from those far off days and I am desperately short of good photos that will help with painting and decaling.

(I've just noticed the dates & times out for these last two posts...! eek.gif )

Hi Ruairidh wave.gif

Both are definitely at Brands, and mine was from raceday at the 1972 British GP (in fact the top three of mine are).
Twin Window
More of mine from the 1972 British GP at Brands Hatch...

up.gif
Twin Window
No, matey! Remember I told you (a while back now) that I was only there on race day...!
Twin Window
Not quite as rare as sight as your little beauty, Barry, but yet not all that common...

Twin Window
Hi Gerard wave.gif

It's the Politoys Cosworth (also known as the Williams FX3 - arguably Sir Frank's first F1 car) and this was the debut race for the chassis.

Unfortunately, Henri Pescarolo crashed quite early during the GP and destroyed it! It didn't appear again until the non-championship Victory Race at Brands that October, when it was driven by Chris Amon (below).

For 1973, the chassis (or at least a version of it) began the season as an ISO Marlboro.
Twin Window
A very warm welcome to TNF, Cargo. wave.gif

Thanks for posting your pics... Wonderful stuff - especially these two!

Not tht I'm biased, you understand!

Barry B - ref. your 'new' pic; what a difference (just under) two years made to that bloke's life...

(Brands '74; just behind the pits)

Hello stranger!

You would have thought so, yes. But for some reason I didn't, although I did take one of Lauda...

...and Hailwood aboard his TS14, followed by Pace's similar (and also soon-to-be-destroyed) chassis...

...von Opel in his Ensign...

...chief spannerman Borsari in Ferrari's sole 312B3 for Ickx...

...and the Williams mechanics with McRae's ISO Marlboro.

Hi Rob

Same event, same car, same bloke...

eek.gif

He's also driving Stewart's Tyrrell at Brands in one of my earlier posts.

Gary C - I'd love to see that footage!

Warren - great Glen shots!
Twin Window
Looks like Graham's wardrobe wasn't too extensive...!

Twin Window
Some more of my 'personal paddock' shots, from the early 1970s...

Mad Ronald heading for the tunnel at Brands prior to his 'last' March drive in the 1972 Victory Race...

Regga at the 1973 British GP - note the scar tissue on his hand; a legacy of his Kyalami shunt...

Fittipaldi E at the 1973 Race of Champions, Brands Hatch...

Beltoise's spare - a P160E - for the 1974 British GP at Brands...

Lauda getting changed in the BRM transporter, during the 1973 British GP. Luxury...

The Hesketh Bear wearing a Bell, on a Bonny...

up.gif
Twin Window
Bloody hell, Warren - it really was foggy for practice, wasn't it?! eek.gif BTW, it looks like Jo Ramirez is driving Cevert's Tyrrell in your pic.

A few more of mine.

'Mike the Bike' at the opening round of the 1973 F2 series at Mallory Park. This was just a few days or so after the incident in which he helped rescue Regazzoni at Kyalami and explains why he wearing a plain white Premier (bike) helmet, as opposed to his regular Bell with his gold/red/white livery...

Wilson F gets annoyed by pitlane traffic at Silverstone during practice for the 1973 British GP at Silverstone...

Pace's Surtees TS14A being wheeled towards the 'Scrutes'...

JYS signing my 1973 International Trophy programme. Check out how cold the speccies are in the background! It snowed during the race...

Cevert in the paddock at Silverstone during the 1973 British GP. Sometimes (only sometimes) I can still smell his leather jacket...

'Lole' and Denny swap notes at Silverstone, 1973...

Nope - it's Gethin.

And the overhead BRM cockpit shot (with the Renault beside it) isn't Howden Ganley but Jean-Pierre Beltoise.

Great pics, Staff!

I couldn't resist a little fiddle...

Hmm... can I have both?!

Just a guess, but it might be John Hogan (later of Philip Morris/Marlboro). IIRC, he hooked up with Ronspeak around that time, having previously been the PR man for Radio Luxembourg...

I've now captioned my pics up.gif

If I get time, I'll put some more up later...
Twin Window
The police were involved in the marshalling at Vegas too; they were clueless as to the access applicable to the differing accreditation as well as being rude and heavy-handed. Mike Doodson was famously arrested in '81 when standing in an area he was totally within his rights to be in.

I got pulled at one point, and somewhere I have an unscanned photo of the incident. I'll stick it on if I can find it later.

A few months earlier Lella Lombardi's Brabham was allotted number 208 for the British GP, in deference to Radio Luxembourg - one of her sponsors and found at 208 on the medium waveband.
Twin Window
Good spot, Matt - I hadn't noticed that!
Twin Window
Now here's an image to make the modern-day F1 fan weep. This is World Superbike Champion elect Neil Hodgson at Brands Hatch in July 2003. He's just taken part in two WSBK rounds on the GP circuit, but failed in his quest to wrap up the title in front of his home crowd.

He's tired, sweaty, hot and rather pissed off. So what does he do? He sits on a paddock scooter for three and a half hours, signing autographs and having his photo taken with all and sundry.

And with a smile on his face the entire time, only refreshed by one baguette and a solitary bottle of beer. As you can hopefully see, the queue was litterally out of sight for most of that period.

I tell you; if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I would never have believed it...
Twin Window
Well, Pedro seems to be helping out on the lower shot. And the bloke working on the 701 bears a passing resemblence to Barry Gill...

Your Stratos shot is fantastic - I love those cars! And the Ensign looks a piece of kit too... surely it can't have been too different to the MN173, technically-speaking, but it's soooo much prettier!

Oh, and I've got a pic of that Rapier too! I'll post it as soon as I lay my hands on it.
Twin Window
I think this is Clive Skilton, at Santa Pod in 1975...

And here's the Rapier again. Hmm... what a lovely venue Mallory Park was in 1972. rolleyes.gif

Twin Window
This evening I scanned some more of the 'Instamatic specials' I took at the 1974 British GP at Brands Hatch.

Ronnie leaves the pitlane, as Beltoise speeds past (...no doubt on his way to pole wink.gif )

Arturo Merzario in typical pose...

Niki Lauda queues up for practice...

Jochen Mass concentrates in his Surtees TS16 for his penultimate race with the team...

Jacky Ickx, who'd won the last time out for Lotus at Brands...

Gordon Murray briefs Carlos Pace upon his Brabham debut...

Merzario heads for the circuit in his Williams (aka ISO Marlboro)...

James Hunt's spare Hesketh is ignored as the team work on his number one chassis...

Niki Lauda sits with his arms resting on the fuel tanks eek.gif of his Ferrari 312B3...

Derek Bell, as he embarks upon his final stint in F1 with Surtees...

Mike Hailwood's spare Yardley McLaren M23, after completing a session...

...and a badly blistered left-front to show for it!
