Back, by popular demand, three more of Eddie's photos for you to fill in more details.

I know this is local Cheshire hero, Stuart Graham on the No 3 Suzuki, and Bill Ivy on the outside

Stuart Graham, foreground , with Ralph Bryans behind

Stuart Graham leads around Lodge Corner, from Bryans

Thanks Alan, not sure that I can add much.... The Bultaco, number 18, has what looks like a Ceriani front break so could be one of the 125 hot shots from those days.....wonder who?

The rider behind 22, and to his right, seems familiar but I can't put a name to him - very 'Steve Jolly' helmet design, but I have doubts. Definitly Syd by the Aermacchi Russ - was Brian Lee his jockey around that time - or did he come later?

Any more like these Alan?

I think Brian came a little bit later Barry.... Also, number 18 looks very much like one of those Royal Enfield strokers ? I was earlier trying to think who it was the rode one around then and could only come up with Gordon Keith, but I don't think it's him.

Isn't that Vernon Cooper eek.gif between Bill and Stuart on the grid ???
knickerbrook
Yep Russell, it could be an Enfield GP5, which would then cancel Everett out. Percy rode one a few times too (but obviously not him), along with a few lesser lights I can't put names to (I knew I'd regret selling my programmes!). One that does stick in my mind however, was Stuart Hughes from Cheltenham, who was well-placed at Nationals on an Enfield in the mid-sixties, but sadly got killed at Mallory's Devil's Elbow (but if memory serves, I think he used a jet helmet - so not him).

Up-date rolleyes.gif i've just had a peep through a few old progs guys   and I have found a Canadian chappie riding 125 Bultaco's in '68 -- about the age of the piccy in the UK ambivalent.gif listed as W Mayo --don't know what the W stands for confused.gif I could guess lol.gif lol.gif wink.gif

Anorak me ?????? Naaaaaaaa rolleyes.gif eek.gif

In the group shot, number 12 is definitely Barry Randle! I fancy the rider to his right in the white jet helmet may be Peter Williams. I'm sure I have seen a pic somewhere of him with a plain lid like that (as opposed to his familiar "W" design), although he does look a bit Martin Watson-ish! Others I'm thinking are John Taylor behind number 9, and Brian Kemp behind number 37 (the blue lid with white blobs).

Unusual to see 350's and 500's together (an unlimitted heat maybe).

Yes Barry, Randle and probably Peter Williams. I think 9 is Jim Curry on the Macchi Mettise. The guy with the Maple leaf.....Stuart Morrin? - cant recall him on a Bulseizo though....

Happy New Year to all.

Just finished reading A Restless Life, Biography of Jackie Stewart, by Timothy Collins and Stuart Sykes. 2003 publication.

I never knew that Bob and Jackie were such very close friends.

Interesting to read that Jackie accompanied his friend and idol Bob to Goodwood in the early 60's for a test session with Ken Tyrrell.
This was a couple of years before Jackie was himself invited to test a single seater for Ken at which he surpassed all expectations and Ken took him on and guided him to greatness. Bob was interested to make the switch from two to four wheels, just as John Surtees had done. Sadly Bob did not meet what Ken thought was an acceptable standard and he didn't get a drive. As Jackie said "End of Story". The two friends headed back to Scotland. The rest, as they say, is history.

Maybe joepotts could tell us more.

Happy new year Classic, yes, that is interesting - so did Jackie ever dabble with bikes?

Hi Guys, I usually post in the 1969-1990 forum but I guess this is the right place for this photo. I see some names I recognise though. It's a WWW and I have no idea who or when. I know it's Brands, my local circuit, and my Dad took the piccie.

Mmmmmmmm looks like John Blanchard on the Yam ? Is that Hugh Anderson in civvies confused.gif Paul ??
GD66
Yes to John Blanchard. No to Hugh Anderson. Aermacchi rider's helmet resembles Billy McCosh, but I tried him once before and found out he rode very few meetings in England....wink.gif
PaulMB
I really like this photo, really captures the moment. WWW? I should probably know but I'm not sure.

PaulMB
Here's another of number 90, may help someone.

Rider of the un-numbered bike is John Hartle - coat of arms of Chapel-en-le-Frith on his hat.

? 7R AJS or G50 Matchless ?
philippe7
Or maybe the famous AJS "Porcupine" ?
GD66
No. The Porcupine was a twin, plus they retired it in 1954. It reappeared in 1964 in Tom Arter's care for a few meetings, and actually didn't go too badly, but the rider was Mike Duff. G50 or a 7R would be the favourite.

So do I...... I think this is the 7R modified by John Surtees at the end of the fifties and which is supposed to have led him to build the smaller, lower, lighter AMC powered bike that was later developed so successfully by Tom Arter and Peter Williams. Apart from that nicely sculptured tank It's difficult to see too much that is radically different from the standard bike so perhaps this was early days. John Hartle, who as most will know was Surtees' MV teamate around this time, is the is the guy in the racing gear. Great shot Paul....can we have some more please ?

I can't remember where I read it, but Stewart was pretty switched on even at that young age - at Bob Mac's test he commented that the fastest thing Bob drove was the van he carried his bikes in. Surtees on the other hand had always had fast road cars, an Aston DB2/4, Porsche 956 and BMW 507, so was used to fast driving even before his early tests with Astons and Vanwall.

No doubt. On fire, Russell ! Both brake anchor arms, front brake, rear units, rear tyre pattern, tank shape all check out. Different rear brake lever is all, nothing out of the ordinary there..... you're well on your way to a Golden Anorak award !! lol.gif

Thanks chaps. I'll have to put all this info together with the original.

I guess it's a test day as well, no plates? Anybody know who anyone else is in the shot? Is that a Matchless M on the design of the loverlee jumper being modelled by the chap in the middle? Is it Brands? And the guy on the right, shirt and tie dude, does he look a little oriental or is it me? Wonder if they need that bolt hiding this side of the wooden block? lol.gif

Def Brands Paul, the two/three farm buildings in mine are exactly the same ones, now the otherside of M20.

Here's the last of the Brands test day ones.

PaulMB
Surtees was mentioned and pictured earlier, so humour me here a little, all will become clear.

WWW? No I'm joking, that's my Dad, 1953, with his Vincent, Comet 499cc engine in a Grey Flash frame. Not really racing but whats the connection? He bought it off John Surtees Dad, they were into building these for John to race I think?

And here's the go faster bit.

Not so sure it is John, looks like an English Rose emblem on the helmet. see inset of John's helmet.

i think i took them around 1968/69 at brands hatch,i think it may have been the *hutchinson 100* meeting.
the first show murray walker chatting to mike hailwood with bill ivy looking at his bike.
the other one is bill trying the NORTON forks he was experimenting with on the 4?cylinder yamaha.
he wasn't very popular with yamaha over that if i rememebr right.

Hi guys, here the same Hailwood with Agostini in Ospedaletti during the Gp of may 1965... link wave.gif

Is that Ron Herring working on the front of Bill Ivy's Yamaha ?
