Good stuff Nigel, always plenty to perve at in the pits at Puke, and doesn't that lineup of 3TAs cause a double-take when you spot them in the tent. Incidentally the indecently-quick #88 Norton piloted by young Sam Smith is in fact the Peter Lodge -built ES2, which has raised many eyebrows and ruined many Manx riders' day, such is its' pace....

Well Done larry, it is Stanley at a Monza event organised by 'Motorcyling' in Setember 1955, some sixteen years after he retired and when he must have been in his early fifties. He seems to have enjoyed himself as the article says the Gilera was pulling 9,800 in top gear, about 150 mph. And well done you other blokes too.

I know I´m going to kick myself when Russ spills the beans, because I´ve seen rider and bike somewhere before, but I can´t seem to open the brain cell it´s locked in.
We won't find out until he's finished frothing over the Aermacchi over on the 1990 thread....

Is someone going to challenge this, cos I'm now not sure myself.

Cooper had one of those big peel fairings fitted around this time but......I have to confess I posted the pic before looking too closely at the second. Oh gawd, I have ballsed up big style?

I think the lad we are looking for is on the extreme left of the pic. Peel fairing and trailing right foot. Looks like moon eyes fell off before that first pic was snapped, as with him, there would have been 7 in the shot.
I will be forced to undertake a trip to the attic if no one can solve this.

If memory serves, when Cooper wore a peel fairing I think it was plain white. Another GP regular not yet mentioned was Jack Ahearn, but I think his "peel" was a dark colour so it won't be him. Didn't Derek Woodman ride a G50 around that time?
Well observed there Rhodie! Looks like a G50 to me (not Woodman though). The Matchless wears a high-level pipe a lot lower than the Manx - and that seat is more G50 than Manx I reckon! I'm thinking Stevens or Young?

As I'm metaphorically in the stocks, I'm loathe to say anymore but...... I have a coloured picture of him somewhere with a white Peel with a red stripe, as per the earlier picture.
Mental note to self: put brain into gear before posting.

Rhodie, If you think you may have the programme for Spa '65, would very much appreciate it if you dug it out.
Aplogies again chaps.
Does the original pic with Minter looking over his shoulder not mention the cast, Russell ? Good to see a pic of this vintage get a few punters out of the trees for a shot, as well. Keep em coming, and as I mentioned before, if you've got any more Francis Beart stuff.....

Nice pics. I met Dave Degens a couple of years ago, popped around to his house to get him to sign a photo. He's a cagey sort of bloke, a bit difficult to get information out of him. Is the Dresda business still going I wonder?

I saw him racing at Cadwell a few years ago.
He was still winning then, probably more so than he did in his youth. Strange thing is the fast men never seem to lose it, look at Bob Heath he was never a regular winner in his works BSA days, then in his "old age" he was almost unbeatable at the TT. Oh yes and there was a man called Mike.

Beautiful shot Classic, Joe gunning it out of the hairpin at Mallory - 350 Manx with Fontana front brake. I dont think its one of 'Frank' Beart's bikes......cos it doesnt look like one and around that time they appeared only on the Island and other big races such as the Ulster GP ? Looks like Joe's gold/copper painted Manx.

No, only that Minter was third behind Hailwood and Ago.
Isn't it Bergamonti on the factory 'Macchi ? .......at Keppel Gate.... ?

Ooo er.. not at the top of my game at the moment.... Little guy, gold and white helmet - not Gilberto?
Hmmm...actually the 'R' sticker on the helmet does indicate a leaning your way, Russell. I blew up the pic (ripper, btw) and thought the signature looked like Bergamonti's, is all. ISTR Cycle mag had a cover shot of Milani at the TT years ago, and upon reflection, the helmet.... sorry to alarm, you must be a little twitchy...

I love this shot. Glorious machine, great style, and captures the very essence of works involvement in GP racing in the late fifties.
Note the withdrawn clutch.

Libero Liberati cranking the Gilera into what looks to be La Source, 1957. The year he won the 500 title. He was later killed in a car crash?, about 1962.
