As you know, they had a power output of around 36 hp and the roadholding must have been okay, too. The MV 250 of ' 60 (Hocking, Ubialli) had 2-3 hp more, so they would have had quite a basis for the years after '54....
Do you know that these 3 small oval holes in the reverse cone added another hp ?

BTW, where were this pictures taken ?
Thinking of the TT races in '54, one has to admire IMHO Rupert Hollaus, who was a newcomer and he had to learn the Clypse course (where he won) and the Mountain circuit (finishing 2nd and lapping over 90 mph) as well

Hi Renn, It's Bill Boddice with son Mick behind who began racing one of the old man's outfits age sixteen, I think at Brands.
Thanks Russ.
Bill's daughter (or one of them, don't know) was married to Dave Simmonds... no stunning news, I guess, but what springs to my mind anyway....

Just a short note to thank you all for making this the most popular thread in the Nostalgia Forum. Puts those car boys to shame. It's a real pleasure to see pics of bikes and riders from 'my' era on here and I've learned so much too.
Oh, not forgetting this amazing thread - 1962-1983: the years of fast racing 'mopeds'!

There is still one missing...the chap in the overall close to Surtees is Vittorio Carrano, not as prominent as Magni was or is, but staying in the MV squad for at least the most of the era. (Chief Mec for SMBH)
The Jawa was a rolling testbed in these times, I guess...

Paul, I´ve always seen this, and the other M/C threads, as more than just a bit of fun and camaraderie. It serves an important function in that facts can be presented and checked by those of us who were actually there, and will serve as an excellent reference point in years to come.
There are so many people out there with so much knowledge of the sport, that, sadly, won´t always be with us. It´s important they share their knowledge I think, so that future generations have a sense of history, without which, the sport would be all the poorer.
Thank you all for your great contributions.

Oi! As a fan of four wheels firstly, but a frequent visitor to the bike forums, I must say it is always a friendly and fun place to visit, even someone with such a poor knowledge of the bike world, heck, I even get some of the Brands questions wrong

I just love Graham's photos of "my old Brands", anything really pre 1970, be they of cars, bikes, or just the empty track, the stuff of dreams

What a marvellous piece of engineering this Honda engine is....reving up to 20 000 rpm or something like that
Luigi Taveri still has his w/c winning bike of '66, too precious to be ridden

Yes, he is...
What about the 2 other gents ? I'm sure you know the 3rd (right one), the left is a tough one...
And yes again, it is the Norisring and should be '57 as well. The arcade on top of the tribune is still standing in this shot, was demolished in the sixties
BTW, I enjoy these pics / movies of garlanding in these days. Can't stand that foolish champagne spraying

Keith Bryen won it, a Swedish rider V Lundberg (left in picture) was 2nd and Eric Hinton (on the right) was 3rd - all on Nortons.
Enrico Lorenzetti led initially on a Guzzi, but dropped out.
