Hi Russ, spot on... and Franco Farne sitting on the tarmac/holding Chadwicks' bike.
Not so well known as the Dottore , but he was a vital part of the Ducati racing history and also much engaged in the development of the bevel driven V2, I think he was on the IOM as part of SMBH's team in '78

Good morning, it's Dave Chadwick

Thanks Renn - I did think Dave Chadwick originally, looking at the helmet design, but he was originally entered on an MV and that certainly was no MV!

I'll stick with Ballanard Road, though.

No 6 certainly is Romolo Ferri.

Not really too good at this period, but could that be Harold Danials on the left with the specs?

So far so good Rhodie....you should get some of these ?

1950 Senior TT day - bikes just out of the marquee, soon to go for warm-up.

From the left: Harold Daniell, Artie Bell, Geoff Duke, Joe Craig, ?, Johnny Lockett.

All four riders on works Nortons, No 57 is Geoff's.

No 66 in background is Manliff Barrington's Vincent-HRD.

Well, I would have got Ray and Jill, but Larry the spoil sport stole my thunder. roflmao.gif

Speaking of Harold Daniels, for many years I was under the mistaken impression that his lap of 91 mph in 1938 was the first 90 plus lap ever. I subsequently found out that the Freddie Frith lapped at over 90 a year earlier. However, Daniels record stood for another 12 years, obviously as a result of the intervening war years, but nevertheless, it was a tribute to his remarkable effort. Would his be the longest standing lap record then?

'No, tell 'em the money must be more than Guzzi pay me....' I too think it's Spa - perhaps a little piece of the Ardene showing through the back of that ramshackle strucure. Must be '53?

I wondered about Gordon too, Russell, but a nice colour photo I have, courtesy of Keith Bryen, shows ginger hair OK, but not curly, and nowhere as sharp-featured.

She married Chris Annersley the car racer in the fifties. No idea where she is now. If she is still alive she must be a rather elderly lady.

Don't know if the bike was ever raced, because the inital output of around 23 HP was just too disappointing... do you think that Mototrans gave it a try ? And I think the attempt happened in '66, not as early as '57 ?

Gentlemen, this wonderful shot is posted with the kind permission of Keith Bryen, the former fifties continental circus star and Guzzi works pilot, and the velobanjogent blog. I've encouraged Keith to drop in to see what we're all about, so lets hope he does.

Such a brilliant shot - not a motorcyle in sight but full of drama nonetheless.

They get familiar with a new track nowadays by doing a pc game, I assume.....btw, love the little saga that Sheene coudn't stay in Read's slipstream on the Masta straight in '75 because the MV's roar of 130+ decibels wasn't bearable tongue.gif

I´m not quite sure why, but any shot of Ray gets me slightly emotional. So, a picture of Ray with Ken Kavanagh standing in that truly beautiful setting, is something rather special. Thanks for that. up.gif

The area where they are standing would now be the run-off area Graham, the current track runs on (I think) the grassy area to their right.

Just seen this great pic in a book I have called Motor Cycle Racing by Peter Carrick, first printed in 1969.

I´ve often wondered about how the BM was competitive with it´s boxer configeration, which must have had a limiting influence on ground clearance as well as power output, but I recently read that one of it´s biggest assets was it´s light weight. In fact the machine pictured was, at 302 lbs, the lightest bike in the 500 class by quite some margin, so that must have played a big role in it´s success.

Not sure about when or where, but who can name the 5 guys in the front row of the pic. The bike shouldn´t be too hard either. wave.gif

Super fast in pre -war days when fitted with a blower, not nearly as good without. (the Porcupine too being originally designed to run with a supercharger). I think Iv'e read that the handling took some getting used to as you had a kind of gyroscopic effect upsetting things which was brought about by the horizontally opposed cylinders.
