This is what my garage looks like except that my bikes aren't half as good as these probably are. So what are they? Spillum de beans please Renn?

A 'dustbin fairing' sounds better than a 'garbage can ferring' as it's probably known as in the USA or does anyone know?

as for the guzzi race dept although they were shoved off to a shed at the back of the factory they did keep it, renn is a great one for pushing pictures from other sources , and forgeting where they came from, i stole this picture from a italian site it was a thumbnail and i built it up i always leave a artifact on the pictures i put out so i know who the ripoff artist is, not that i care , last year my mate went to the guzzi factory on some owners deal , a guzzi looks like a bmw doing a proctoigest exam , any way the v8 guzzi was sitting in the middle of the floor , while he was taking multi pictures , ( i for one have never seen how the exaust pipes exited , the mechanics came up and asked it him do you want to see it run ? after his orgasm , they told him they need,d help , just drop the clutch and rev it , they told him its got no idle , well rev it he did the $300 lens from his nikkon undone and hit the floor he now is the proud owner of a broken lens and a once in a lifetime chance to rev that bitch

Kel was provided with a 250 cc works Honda in Oz which he campaigned very successfully (scoring 115 wins from 161 races between 61 and 65) ...

clap.gif By jove, you're correct...well done Renn. In the sixties the four was used by the Honda distributors in Sydney to stick on their stand at the then annual motorcyle show at the Sydney Showground; I recall when demonstrating to workmates how to get in a racing crouch on it, I split the arse out of my trousers. By the late sixties the bike was often hanging around the showroom site, usually stashed down the back somewhere. I think Jack Carruthers had charge of it most of the time, although I dont think I ever knew who actually owned the thing, nor do I really know why it never ran after Kel took of for Europe. I suppose spares etc must have been an issue.

I think the RC 161 was provided by Bennett&Wood....you worked for them ?

The pic in the superbikeplanet feature shows a very steep inlet angle, quite amazing for the early sixties..

Bennett Honda, who were a subsidiary of Bennett and Wood. Loads of racers worked there, so a great environment for a racing mad spotty youth. Kel was friendly with my boss and came down for a visit after winning the world title in '69. I think the four was about a '60 model and has clearly now undergone some restoration work...is the piece telling us it's now in the States? Yes, exremely steep inlet angle...not follwed by later Honda racer designs?

According to Jim Scaysbrook, the little Honda was an ex Tom Phillis bike from, I think, 1960. Minter's bike, on which he beat the factory runners at the '62 TT, was a 61' model.

Hi Russ, with all due respect to Derek Minter, but didn't Jim Redman had problems with a leaky filler cap thus forcing him to an extra pit stop ?
Anyway, Minter didn't stand back, that's what presumeably robbed him of a future Honda works ride ??

According to Nick Harris TT book, Minter actually overtook Redman (on the road or on corrected time isn't noted), but Minter had a very long pitstop thus Redman gained the lead again and finally lost it due to his extra refuel stop...I think Larry or Arthur are eyewitnesses, they will advise us soon wave.gif
I know that clip, but I've to admit that I hardly understand anything. May sound strange, but it' s easy for me to understand William Dunlop for instance , but guys like Michael Dunlop or Guy Martin -- zilch. Sorry, out of thread....
Anyway, do you think that Minter spoiled his chances by finishing ahead of the works riders ?

Unless my memory is playing tricks.....I've always thought that Minter not only caught Reman on the road but was also lapping faster than him throughout the race. I think though that Bob Mac was leading until his bike broke. Minter, I recall (at least I think I do ), finished the race with what was claimed to be a broken cranshaft. I'm sure I remember him explaining in the press that the Honda began to slow and make funny noises in the latter stages of the race and he thought he would never finish. Yes, Arthur I think was in the race......

The sound is poor on the vid (curious that, as I have played it before now and it was fine...) but I can inderstand you not catching all that's said due to the accent ; Derek has a bit of a yokel burr...he's from a little village outside of Canterbury, Kent. Northern Irish accents too are not too easy....sorry Larry. When I lived in OZ, it was common for NI, Geordie and Scots accents to be subtitled in news reports and the like.

Finally, Derek's winning four at Heathrow.

Chaps, who's this CR93 pilot......
Rennmax

Bob Mac scored the fastest lap (99.06) in that race, but surely Derek Minter was tremendously quick aboard the bike which was 1 year older than the ones of his direct competitors....re UK accents, the Scottish modulation is not so hard to understand for German ears, sounds somehow more familiar than other regional accents....remembering my efforts to understand explantions in Liverpool in order to find the way from the docks to the southbound motorway rolleyes.gif

Yes, sorry Renn, after re-reading my post I could be interpreted as disbelieving Mr Harris and/or your good self. What I was actually burbling on about was my recollection of events.......

Having said that there's no doubt that Minter was at his peak around that time and capable of beating just about anyone.
