Juan Garcia. I have a nagging feeling he may have been given that anglicised moniker by the predominantly British motorcycle sporting press, due to the paucity of Spanish competitors in the World Championship in those days (early sixties). No longer the case, however.... rolleyes.gif

Thats a great spot GD66, Juan Gargia. That shot at Parkfield Corner is a gem.
I can remember at the Spanish GP's when after the 125/250 races the crowd went home. Dani and Jorge has changed all that.

Not really, the only hint is the Dunlop triangular, so certainly sixties...these bikes were raced in Germany from '55 till the Bultacos/ Yamahas TD1C appeared..

Rod , you would have raced against Ray Watmore on his Adler at Castle Combe , Thruxton etc . so I expect your dad took it then perhaps ???

Yes dad almost certainly took the pic. Remember the name but not the bike! In those days I had my head jammed firmly where the sun don't shine worrying about myself and too many things and people passed me by unfortunately.

Yes Rod I remember an Adler being raced in 1963 at Castle Combe. It was quite a quick machine

Just got a copy of BSN and sadly found the obit of Fred Wallis.

Fred was from Toton near Long Eaton, Notts. A member of the Nottingham Tornado Club, this club ran meetings at Mallory from 1958 (I was there). An Electrical engineer he worked for Plesseys, raced solos mainly BSA's 250, 350, 500. He was a top class rider, very smooth and quick. Later he ran a sidecar alongside his solos, in the 60's he competed in every race of the day at a Cadwell meeting, 250, 350, 500 and sidecar. After retiring 1969 he was often seen rushing round Mallory on the latest model Honda or BMW as CofC. Fred was at the TT this year, but was taken ill at home in July, he died on August 6 at the age of 89. I also saw him race on solos at grass track meetings, same bikes different tyres and handlbars! A real racing enthusiast sadly missed.

You are on the ball RR2, Naomi Taniguchi in 1960 250 TT coming into the finishing enclosure after coming 6th.
I omitted to say Dickie Dale was DNF in the 350 TT 1960. I really admired him and had my hemet painted in the same red and white scheme.
2 out of 3, you are on a roll. Well done.

Could it be Moto Kitano ? of the Honda team circa 1960
Regarding Dickie Dale's 1960 Junior retirement, he ran out of petrol on the last lap while in fifth place.

Hi guys, I hope you will forgive a rude Aussie for jumping in. wave.gif
A friend is trying to learn something about a Gold Star that he has so I'm hoping that one or more of you can help us.
Do the names Moveo S.A. Paris and Famo Luxembourg mean anything to your brains?
Any help would be appreciated.

Go to the top of the class RRT2. Yes Moto Kitano. This was taken in 1962 at the Nursery Hotel (Honda HQ).
He was DNF in the 250 TT that year, but was 5th in the 250 TT in 1960.
I can see the nexy pics are going to be harder, well done.

Not the 350 Scott usually piloted then by Barry Scully.... ? .not him on it though, I think.

I think that was built by Brian Woolley, but it doesn't look like him either. Woolley had another rider galloping his 50s, Horace Crowder...could it be him ?

Don't think its Barry Scully, perhaps Chris Williams. Also the forks are different from the Scully bike.Shorter leading links on the BS bike, and also it had a tank/seat unit not unlike an Enfield GP5.

Friend of mine had a Drixton, I had the Metisse.

We swapped over once - neither of us could detect any difference between them.

I can tell you though that the Metisse had superb roadholding but diabolical handling!!

Unlike the "flexy" standard 'Macchi chassis, it gave no warning whatsoever before letting go.

It was like riding the Forth Bridge - going down from Keppel Gate to Kate's Cottage, over the fiendish bumps that used to be there, my eyeballs used to rotate back into my head and I always had to guess where to turn in!!!

cos I couldn't see . . . . .

stoned.gif stoned.gif stoned.gif stoned.gif stoned.gif

Happy days - when I eventually went to TZ Yamaha cantilevers, it was like sitting in an armchair . . . . . . . just point and pull the trigger

Hi Larry, do you have any pics of the Macchi ?

1962 TT - Claud Lambert & Alfred Herzig on a Rennsport BMW outfit

QUOTE (Russell Burrows @ Aug 28 2009, 09:45) *

The outfit (1962 TT again) is crewed by D F Brindley & J Waugh.

The solo poses a problem. In 1962, No 12 in the 125 Lightweight was, according to the programme, Phil Read on a Bulto, but he was a non-starter. Looks like a Bulto, though.

However, the comparatively empty fields on the outside of the Tower Bends would seem to indicate that this is a practice shot, so - Lutonboy on a 125 Bultaco in 1962 Practice?

Well spotted lads, Fred Brindley was another great UK chairman, always there with his BSA, came 8th in 1962 TT.
Mystery shot of the 125 racer was definitely taken during the race, there is a bulge similar to the MZ on theside of the fairing but none entered the race.
Claude Lambert/Alfred Herzig BMW in 1962 came home 4th. Sadly the previous year Claudes wife Marie was his passenger when they crashed at Brandish(?) and she was killed. Must have took some courage to entered the next year.
The Birch brothers Alan and Peter cme home 7th in 1962 on the Matchless. Not sure about any aother relative racing.
Thanks Russell,
Roy

Got it Roy - found the official ACU Jury Report and Results among my archives (!).

Mike O'Rourke took over Read's entry, and is listed as finishing 10th in the 125 Lightweight under riding number 12.

Now who crashed at the Gooseneck in the 350 in 1962.
Do you have anything on R Karol (USA)125 Honda CB92 in 1961 or 1962. He was at the meeting but did not start.
