Good stuff Larry: I can only get Kavanagh for sure. The bloke second from left was, I think, killed in the subsequent race ? I can't recall his name. The others all look familiar but the names just wont come to me. Must be a circuit learning jaunt on the Island '53? Is far left Dickie Dale?

In the jacket on the left is Leo Simpson

The picture of Ken et al reminds me of something written by, I think, Scaysbrook on the fatal practice crash of a fellow Aussie on the Island. My memory is that Kavanagh, who witnessed the crash, told Scaysbrook that the eviidence he gave to the IOM coroner was far from accurate. Apparently, the rider - who's name sadly I cant recall and which no amount of googling will through up - was killed by someone reversing along the course in their car. I seem to recall that the bloke concerned was a doctor..... It seems, for whatever reason, that Ken either decided or was pressured into telling the coroner a version of events that allowed the bloke responsible to get away with it. Does anyone else recall this?

2nd from left and 2nd from right you haven't got yet -

Well, It´s the IOM, I think someone has already said, but where? Mmmm, I´ll guess the exit of Ballacraine leading up the hill to Doran´s, although it could be almost anywhere really.

Geoff Walker clap.gif , Russ, but not Maurie.

And not approach to Greeba - and not the exit from Ballacraine, Rhodie

The clue to that is in some of the answers so far!

You're close, Arthur, but a mile or two short.

I reckon it's Shoughlaigue Bridge, on the run from Handley's to Baaregaroo top.

Now - who's our last runner - he's an Aussie too.

Do you mean the WA rider Tommy Rae ? Have to confess, I live in Perth but am unaware of his exploits.

Phil, Tommy Gill is a clubmate of mine, and he rode in the Island between 1965 and 1969.

I am across George Scott's story though, and was lucky enough to see him tell the Vintage Club here his life's story at a club night not long before he passed away. His was a ripping yarn, and he used a phrase in the chat I've repeated a few times since....

"I'll never forget...ah...what's-his-name......"

Nice one, George ! clap.gif

Well , well , well Glen , what a small world . The reason I suggested Tommy , is that I still have the prog from the '67 TT and he rode with that number in the Senior !!! wave.gif

Did he now ! I recall a small pic of him leading Len Atlee at Ramsey hairpin in the Motor Cycle from that race, but it was too small and indistinct to pick the race numbers. He retired a year or so back, but is a good source of yarns from The Days When, and is a good bloke.

I seem to have lost my fred. The answer is GH Smith shown in the 1960 Junior TT on his Norton coming home 55th.
Any info on him would be appreciated.

Spot on Larry, Jean Heanski AJS in the 1960 Junior TT with a DNF
Will have to sort some harder ones for you.
Have been leaning about the Irish Speed Records at Cork where Moto Vincent claimed the Standing Kilo in 1961.

Go to the top of the class Rhodie and HW. Jannie Stander it is. I saw him on the Island, Mallory and Oulton Park just before his European tour was cut short. Who else would have come 6,000 miles with a Velo when Honda was there.
He was DNF in the 1960 TT.

Well, after cheating a bit and scanning the resuts for what I think is the 1960 Lightweight for NSU pilots, the name Dixon jumped out at me as he looks not unlike the guy who around this time raced a Moto Rumi. So, one J. (John?) Dixon?
