Well boys, you have cracked Hugh Anderson at the 1962 UGP, if it had been a colour film the red helmet would have given him away. Good on ya GD66.Hi Terry, I swear that I would have recognized Ray Amm, one of my all-time favourites, without the caption... what a tragedy that he was killed during his first MV outing
Edit: he is very well remembered over here for making a pit stop during a race at the Norisring in Nuremberg (my hometown) in '53 just to give his wife a kissNevertheless he won the race, of course

I have not yet got the snow shovel out here in the tropics of Leicestershire.
I am a bit late Terry but I did recognise Ray Amm, on his tragic MV ride. Just makes you wonder what would have been seeing Ray battling with the 'Duke' in the World championships. Was it at the Shell Cup meeting at Imola?

In reply to Russell Burrows’ post #6067 - it is indeed Charlie Sanby’s old 7R.
It was Bob McIntyre’s 1959 motorcycle - raced to second place in the 1961 IOM Manx GP by Robin Dawson. Charlie purchased it mid 1964 and I bought it of Charlie October/November 1969.
In my usual stupid way I sold the 7R towards the end of 1971, thinking it was too slow and wanting a Yamaha (grass is always greener etc.) Never did get the Yamaha but then not everything goes to plan.

You picked a good bloke for a favourite, Rennmax, Ray was a grand chap and we became good friends after both retiring together at Kirkmichael corner in the '54 Junior, me in my first TT and him from the lead of the race. The lady in the house on the corner gave us beans on toast, too. After he crashed at Aintree late that year, I visited him daily in hospital and while he was convalescing in Geoff Duke's house at Southport. When he landed the MV contract, he invited me to his villa on Lake Maggiore and I went with him as he tested the bikes at various circuits in Italy. That picture was taken at Monza in January '55 and was just one of the various things which were tested, such as the Earles forks (instantly rejected) and this specially made nose, something of a copy of his famous 'proboscis' Norton. I returned to the UK to race at Oulton Park the day he went to race at Imola.Hi Terry, I swear that I would have recognized Ray Amm, one of my all-time favourites, without the caption... what a tragedy that he was killed during his first MV outing

Well, your 're right, comparing yesterday with today's heroes is rather pointless. Nevertheless, in the TT forum there is a discussion going on about the rise of speed on the mountain circuit. There is a claim that the speed difference between today's circuit and the circuit in the condition of 10 years ago is 4 mph. That's why I contemplate about the difference of nearly 50 years....

Roy,Hi Boys, With respect Renn the Harry Scholes shot on BMW #9 was not at Signpost Corner in 1962 TT.
It shows Harry Scholes and Keith Scott on the ex-Pip Harris outfit at Oulton Park on Easter Monday 23-4-62. The enbankment at Signpost was not wide and could only accept one row of spectators and did not carry advertising banners on the outside of the corner, unlike the inside which did. See my shot of some of our group at Signpost Corner in 1961.
In my Oulton programme Harry was third on the 6th lap behind Max Deubel and Pip Harris, however it was a 19 lap race and on lap 14 Harry was not oin the top 4.
I would be interested to know where the shot was taken at Oulton.
Best wishes,
Roy

Is it too late to suggest sidecar is exiting Deer Leap at Oulton Park? I can't help with anything else.I have another couple of poor quality photos, can you identify the track? Possibly 1962, Oulton Park. Whereabout is this bridge?
In the lower photo man walking away with hat is Harold (Harry) Scholes, where is this?
Sidecar under bridge - what number is this?
Any details gratefully recieved

I know the late Graham Milton had a garage in Spaldwick just off the A14.Saw him doing a demo on the BMW at Mallory a few years ago, absolutely magic.Tony Wakefield was also entered as from Spaldwick. In the '69 Post TT,they were both entered separately on Rennsport outfits.thanks Alex.
Just a bit left field now : does anyone know if the Pip Harris BMW 1961 machine that Harry Scholes bought ended up with Tony Wakefield and Graham Milton?
I thought I read he had done something with it and then by 1965 or so moved on to something else. I thought Tony Wakefield was a car salesman in Northhants?

Hi germanty,
that sounds brillliant! Any chance you can take a few s/c snaps and try and snap some of the literature especially its provenance - if they mention Pip Harris then that'll be it. Any chance you can give the garage name/address/phone details just in case I can get there?
