The DKW 3 was ridden by August Hobl, who declared that this would be his last outing on that bike, due to his age of 79... On of the "charge pump" DKWs was piloted by Ralf Waldmann, the #32 Yam OW 31 by Steve Baker of course, and there were the regulars like Rod Gould, Chas Mortimer, Pentti Korhonen, Dieter Braun etc. on the Ferry Brouwer bikes ... last not least John Blanchard on his new Patton etc etc.. it was the 21th time I attended that meeting rolleyes.gif

PS: I wonder whether the Aermacchi frame is a Drixl or something home brewed... Russ, please advise wave.gif

Looks a bit like one of Marly's jobs to me - definitely not a Metisse.

As HW will tell you, I know more than enough about Macchi Metisses!

On second thoughts, it might just be a seriously home-modified Aermacchi frame, or a complete "Eigenbau" (!), but I doubt it.

Hi Renn ,nice pics, thanks. The Macchi appears to be a drastically modified original frame, complete with big chunky spine. The Drixton http://www.aermacchi-racing.com/ was nicer wink.gif

Thanks Terry, I'll pass it on, he's my brother...

The first pics show the traditional ride from the paddock to the town hall and back on Friday evening, most without mufflers, which are not compulsory during the whole meeting

Renn, I'm even more miffed that I couldn't come now. Some lovely stuff. That Adler is nice too.Once saw a watercooled one in road trim at the MGP around 30 years ago.
Larry was pretty near the mark with the Aermacchi frame I reckon. You can see the original Diagonal spine tube under the tank, and too many straight tubes for a Drixton IMHO.
Don't keep rubbing it in Larry,I am still smarting over Killalane roflmao.gif roflmao.gif Seriously though, you boys are so much better than us (mostly) on those country lanes up.gif

Yeah, some Adlers, though massively modified, were competitive till the late sixties against Bultaco TSS and Yamaha TD 1 C machinery. Here a pic of Reinhard Scholtis aboard his very compactly framed special

An Adler V4 500 would be some tool Renn tongue.gif No its just a quite neat aircleaner. It was on German plates IIRC.

Hi again, just a quick note. My father, John Sweet, raced sidecars from 63 -66 and did the IoM in 65 and 66, he also did some GP's in 65 and 66 along with meetings at home. He lost most of his photo's and poster in a fire in the 76 heatwave. would any one out there have any pics? Long shot i know but if you dont ask. From 63 to 65 his outfit was Manx powered and a squat frame and bronze/gold colour. 66 was a kneeler gold and white with fairings from Fritz Scheidegger.

Hi, thought these might be of interest to board members and this would be the best place to put them. They are mainly of my Dad, George Sorensen (No.63 and others) and his friend George Scott (No.1)

The scramble and sidecar shots are either Herne Hill or Mandurah - most of these are taken with a Box Browny

Being 82 years old my Dad's memory might be playing tricks, but he reckons the guy crouching is Eric Nichol

Maurice Quincy / George Scott and one of the other guys is Lloyd Chapman

Gingin

One of these blokes behind Dad is Don Russell

continued next post
minbari73

I asked my oldboy about this and he reckons the location is Claremont Speedway

This is apparently a chap by the name of Steve Kestrall (sp) Kestrel who was apparently 2nd in this race which my old bloke won at Gingin.

The guy on the sidecar in this photo and others is George Saville

Claremont Speedway

This is George Scott at the Bunbury TT

Most likely Mandurah

Dad's BSA at our old Carlisle home.

Pic 6 is, I think, Maurie Quincey shaking hands with George Scott.

Some others are from Duke's trip to Oz with the works Gilera, and Carlo Fumagalli features.

As to the scrambles stuff, I know NOTHING!

Cracking set of pieces of history though.

Beautiful German motocycle-girl Anke-Eve Goldmann, seen here visiting the Nürbugring.
She rode sporting BMW´s and Mv Agustas on the road.
I don´know if the gentleman to the left could be Esso Gunnarson.

Hi there Russell, nice period pic up.gif

Interesting to see the tubing from the fairing to the airbox (?) Could this be an early try at forced or pressurised induction?

Watcha Mick, I'm not sure. It could be an attempt to help the motor breath or perhaps just to keep everything cooler ? I think it was a fairly popular mod in the early sixties. Seemingly a 350 with no reverse cone megga too. wink.gif

Russell, it looked to me from the photo that the tubing was running from the front of the fairing to the carb area, although I do not profess to be an expert on diesel singles from the 50's/60's biggrin.gif

The petrol pump globe ("MS") is the clue here. Munster Simms, an Ulster petrol/oil distributor (now, alas, gone).

I believe that the great Walter Rusk worked for them in the 1930s.

Photo was taken outside the Belfast garage that MV used as a base when they came to the UGP - on the Lisburn Road it was, and I think the firm's name was Oliver.

It's 1958, and Old Elbows is sitting on John Hartle's 500 and talking to Vittorio Carrana, top MV mechanic.

I don't think he ever rode the big 'uns -- come on Terry Shep, help me here !!!

It never ceases to amaze me the workmanship involved to produce the aluminium streamlining of yesteryear. True craftsmen in those days.

In true wild colonial boy fashion, Gary Hocking is said to have chopped down an unsuspecting Rhodesian tree, hacked it into the required fairing shape, beat the aluminuim around it, and fitted it to his 7R.

Whoever said that must have imbibed too many cold Castles and was probably also seeing pink elephants.

To my knowledge Gary's first fairing was a fibreglass rip-off of a UK built one with mods by Gary to make it slimmer.

Evening Russ,

Just getting ready to go to Imola for the Imola 200 revival this weekend. Lots of old names coming back like Roberts, Cecotto, Lucchinelli, etc. Got three guys down here from the UK for the weekend so should be a go do.

Had a look in a couple of books and this is Cesenatico in 1960, when Hocking won the 125 race. There is a similar pic in a book.
