Found this picture of M P O'Rourke on the Arrow at the 1961 TT (Bradden). He was a good rider and I remember seeing him at Brands Hatch dicing with Minter, Dunphy, Trow, Daniels etc. Looking at the face we seem not to have the same chap.

They look pretty similar here though......

Agreed Mike O'Rourke it is.

This may be of interest. In Old Bike Mart there is an ex Mike O'Rourke Triumph 3TA for sale listed as having been one of his TT bikes. Any pics or info on this particular bike ? It's painted in a cream colour with all the period race kit on it from what I can see.

"Jet" style helmet, I'd say it's later than that.

Perhaps colour too makes it appear later. It is Fred on the mountain in the 1960 MGP, his first race on the island. Well done gentlemen.

Yes Renn, after dominating practice for both races in '61, he was tipped to do the double. Had he arrived at Appeldene just a fraction slower......

Terry almost certainly raced against Fred, I wonder if he recalls much about him?

Nice collection of shots here

The 'Belgian GP 68' is showing pictures of Johann Attenberger preparing his outfit (the chap with the stiff left leg). He and Josef Schillinger lost their lives when leading on the last lap, they were leading the worldchampionship as well after their victory in Assen the week before.

Ripper, Renn. What about the Campagnolo discs on the MV at Suzuka 1965!

I asked him a couple of weeks ago, Russ.

Expected date, he tells me, is May 2012 - I've had a couple of copies on order for a year now !!

It'll definitely be good . . . . . . . he tells me it's an expanded version of "Australian Motorcycle Heroes", containing all the material that their publisher wouldn't put into the first book - he had some fetish about a limit to the word count, apparently.

Thanks, Larry. Yes, he's trailed it for almost two years now - surely a big mistake. Anyway, as you say, it should be worth the wait.

52, behind Jack Brett's head, is John Hartle. Behind him, 38 is Dave Chadwick.

Then we have: 48 Ralph Rensen, 63 Harry Grant, 55 Peter Murphy, 47 Bobby Brown, 36 Fred Wallis, 39 Geoff Tanner.

Cracking shot, Russ - any more??

Don't think so, Russ - Jack was entered by, and riding for, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu in '57.

I will make it even easier by adding the picture this time (senior moment).

Yet another brilliant shot, germanty. Duke, King, Brown Sheperd, chasing who for me is a mystery rider. Hempleman, maybe? '59 350 Ulster?

Online petitions are not the way to get someone nominated for an honour. There's proper way of getting it done

QUOTE
Nominating someone for an honour
The honours system recognises people of outstanding merit, and those who have committed themselves to service to the nation. It's been around for centuries, but it was a closed system for many years. Only since 1993 has everybody been free to nominate

Hocking and ? (I´ll let someone else have a go at the number 4) Looks like Gary is on an Arter matchless in the Dutch GP at Assen. The year, a wild guess, 1959? Also looks like Friday practice as I´ve never seen so few people trackside in Assen.

Wild guess: Stuart Graham in '66??

The other one could be Gustav Havel, don't know how to distinguish him from his team mate Stastny

Not Hocking? Well blow me down with a feather duster. I could have sworn I´d nailed that one. roflmao.gif
Definitely Assen, although, as it´s not Hocking, it could be latter then 59´. Could it be Peter Williams in a borrowed lid?

Not Stuart, but probably '66. You're right Renn, difficult to distinguish one from the other but I'm about 95% that it's Franta.

Yep, definitely Assen and maybe even Thursday practice by the lack of people! Not sure of the year, but 66 is as good a guess as any.

Sat in those grandstands many times in the 80s and 90s, great spot up close, although they had been moved back compared to this photo. Think they were moved after Terry Haslam's accident, but not sure. Spectated there in 2010 on the "new Strubben", but the corner is much tighter and slower, and you're 100 metres away behind a sand trap!
Rennmax
Another one from the old De Strubben

Russell Burrows
Nice shot, Renn. Tony Rutter tucked in there in fourth spot. Don't think I can get the others- I do believe they're all foreigners. Or or is that Cliff Carr with number 19?
