I've often heard of a Ferry that takes fans to and from the track and wonder where you board. I usually sit in 22, but this year we have tickets in grandstand 11 which is quite a walk from the Metro and if I recall closer to where the Ferry docks. Anyone ever try it?

I was wondering the same thing, and whether it's possible to walk from downtown.
According to the map below the ferry regularly goes to Ile Ste Helene. But it doesn't mention any extra service for the GP and I suspect that there may be one

I think the ferry is beyond the Metro from where you are, so it would be a longer walk.

I tried to find it when I was there, no luck. asked a policeman about it & he said there wasn't a ferry at all....

is this a myth??

No, it's not a myth, there really is a ferry going from the old port of Montreal to Ile Ste-Hélène.

There are departures every 60 minutes.
You'll find a phone number that you can use; I just hope it's not a policeman who's taking the phone calls...

The ferry is very easy is to find. It's a 10 min walk from the nearest subway station (Metro Champs-de-Mars), near City Hall. It's located in the old port, just at the bottom of a street called «Place Jaques Cartier», at the Jacques Cartier Pier - just beside the Imax cinema. This area is packed with tourists during the summer, so if there's no crowd, you're lost!
You can find «Place Jacques Cartier» on map quest. On the map, the Jacques Cartier Pier is just in front.

As far as I know, the ferry (la navette) doesn't go directly to Ile Notre-Dame.

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately, looking at the map you provided, it looks like the Ferry docks farther away than the Metro. I contacted them and waiting to see what they say. In any case, thanks again for the information and can't wait for June. Pray for hot and dry weather, it's been a cold winter here in Chicago.

I've taken the ferry it was a quick and uncrowded way to get to track. I couldn't find on the way back from the track which is too bad because I'd imagine it would be a good deal quicker than waiting in line for the Metro.
