Cover of Sports Car World ... December 1962 has an overhead shot of Ralph Sach's NOTA-Din - motor is canted over, has three SU's and cockpit is off-set to the left.

I phoned Cummo to get this, he said it was 'either the Nota Din or the Mini Din'...

The Nota Din had different chassis detail, this one is clearly not a Nota at all. Where are Joe Bosworth and John Medley when you need them?

Trevor Meehan's car was Mini-powered, but it wasn't called 'Mini Din'... if you look in the Bathurst book there's a photo of it crashing. The name of the car's there, I just can't bring it to mind at the moment.

I can't think where else to mention this;

In this month's Vintage Racecar there is a long article, with history and track impressions, of Eldred Norman's 1955 supercharged Zephyr Special, which seems something of a testament to Aussie ingenuity. They also covered the Crowfoot Special last year so they are clearly aiming at the market there as they launched in Australia in October/November IIRC.

Who's driving there, Terry... Norman or Rilstone? I didn't know the car went to Caversham.

I didn't either until I saw this photo. Apparently the 60 or 61 Gold Star Round, or even possibly a stab at the WA racing Car title about the same time. More likely Rilstone than Norman. The guy who knows, and took the pic, is currently at Phillip Island...

Eldred Norman in the Zephyr Special (or otherwise the Norholfordor) in the pits during the 1955 AGP meeting at Port Wakefield .

I think that this may even have been its first race appearance?

Nice one of Beechey, Lakeside 1964. Note that the Neptune Racing Team logo has been covered over on account of it being "advertising"... This pic was taken at Karrussel .

Great photos, folks!

Havent had time to post recently.. trying hard to get ready for Phillip Island ( and debauch my little body while there!!!)

There were two Mini dins :Trevor Meehan's sports car, and the Ralph Sach hillclimber which preceded his Nota Din. The Mini Din shown in photo with Ralph Sach and John Cummins was later hillclimbed very effectively by Bathurst's Bob Bedwell. Travelled to Phillip Island wih Cummo and he too confirmed the photo.

Do we have a Queensander who can identify the road registered car # 11 with JWF fibreglass body behind the Repco Centaur? A friend has been trying to identify that one for years

By the way,Greg Snape's description long ago of his first drive of his father's Norman Zephyr:" You touch the accelerator pedal and all of a sudden you are somewhere else and your face is covered in flattened flies"

It is a red trident, symbol of Neptune Oil Co (now absorbed into Shell).

I can easily identify Bob Jane, but not the other driver beside him, nor the driver whose face is obscured by the windscreen pillar. The rider in leathers in the white car is Kel Carruthers.

The guy beside Bob Jane looks a bit like Greg Cusack squinting into the sun. The guy in the passenger seat could be Frank Matich I would say.

By the way, does anyone know if it is possible to change password used to log on to this forum? I have not been able to find a way of changing . Thanks in anticipation.

I agree that it does look like Cusack behind. Must be the ATT car as Jane didn't run in the South Pacific Trophy. It was a good call as the Australian Tourist Trophy finished Matich, Jane then Cusack according to Barry Green's Fast Track Back Longford.

PS. Chris, go to User CP near the top in the middle, and this gives you a Change Password option.

Yes, must be Matich with the garland around his neck...

I'm trying to identify the location of the photo too... those little trees are the same as the ones that Timmy Mayer hit that year, but on the wrong side of the road and with the wrong background to be at that part of the circuit. Although 1964 was a drought year, IIRC, and that might make a difference to the appearance of the background.

I haven't seen photos of that area, but to me it could possibly be approaching Pub Corner, with the photographer standing outside the Mobil servo. The white tyre on the edge of the road also indicates proximity to a corner.

Yes, that's the point on the circuit I'm talking about...

Timmy Mayer died right near the Mobil servo.

And judging by the hand placement of the man positioned above the driver's head in the photograph, I think it certainly indicates proximity to the Prince Of Wales.

That looks like Lionel ahead of Glynn... but those cars on the infield, that area's about 30' lower now, and the concentration of Holdens is no longer so great.

And the girls, they're undoubtedly showing a lot more wear than they did that day.

Another nostalgic "they way we were" photo, Oran Park, 1975 Tasman meeting (F5000 by then). It's one of a small batch I took before the attractions of the Esky became too great.

That is a very flash looking scruitineering bay. Puts a lot of permanent circuits to shame. (reminds me of my brother telling me about Sandown in the 90's when the scruitineering bay blew away!)

I would have said it's a Buckle, but there isn't one listed for that meeting in John Medley's book. Or any No.74 that I could see

It's a Buchanan body with fibreglass top. I have no recollecion of the car

At first I had to agree with David: doesnt appear in the programmed list in the Bathurst book, so a special find I thought, and another personal smack on the wrist for the author

However, in the results appears Bruce Maher Buchanan Holden. Given the company the pink car keeps in the photo above, with cars arranged in classes, my guess is Bruce Maher Buchanan Holden
