In my opinion, Bernd Nowak of the GPLPS has just released a program that, at least in this stage of GPL's lifespan, may be one of the greatest programs created for GPL.

Even the experienced GPLer among us has at one point or another struggled with a new GPL installation. And this is not to mention the problems that newbies to GPL experience. And you'll occasionally read comments from long-time GPLers that are having problems with GPL on newer pc's/platforms. The answer to all of these questions is the GPLPS GPL installer. It will give you a working GPL installation, with updated GPLEA cars and some of the finest track updates around for the original GPL venues. You can read more about it here:

If you've been struggling with a GPL installation, your answer is at hand...

Nice! This is exactly the problem I have, want to play GPL, don't want go through the hassle of installing everything. I'll try it out..

Do'h!

Just got a new computer a week ago, and first thing was getting gpl to work smile.gif

This install doesn't install the 65 and 69mods does it? (as far as i could tell from rscnet it doesn't).. perhaps that is the next logical step?

to include the mods in a single install would be great...

Mahelgel:

No, this will not install any of the mods. When you are finished with the Installer, it's all ready to accept the installation of GEM+, so that's the next step. Then on to the mods.

I think the biggest problem would probably be the size of the thing with the mods included. But I'll pass it along to Bernd.

Hi mahelgel,
the mods out for a reason. Not everyone like the 65mod/69mod/TC and further ones.
So the main purpose of this installer is to just give you a more/better starting with GPL.
There are lots of guys which only drive the 67 cars ;)

We are however in the progress of doing a new version which will add some more critical stuff smile.gif

But it's good to see comments like yours to discuss and maybe find some more interesting stuff to include.

But as I said, no current plans to include a mod.

Thanks for your support smile.gif

I had a revelation when I discovered the 2004 demo too...had been advising friends of the game but it is a nightmare to install/patch/update etc

cheers

Thanks very much, Bernd. Great idea, and the installer works seamlessly. I had wanted to reload GPL on my new PC, but was put off by the thought of installation hassles and having to re-download all the cars, track updates, etc.

Apart from a brain burp, in which I got 3/4 of the way through downloading the UK installation (on a 56k dialup lol.gif ) before remembering that I had the US version of the game, it went quickly and without any hassles at all. up.gif

How about 2 different downloads then, one with mods and one without? One thing is getting GPL up and running, another is getting a proper install of all the mods without things getting messy tongue.gif

Anyway, i'm thanfull that the gpl installer is made in the first place, so a big up.gif for the initiative smile.gif
