Looks like SL Sony are done with F1. Anybody hear of who might [if anyone does] acquire a license for F1 [maybe not exclusive]

Please, no. Race Driver 3 was abominable. Give it to SimBin.

Any sources or stories on Sony dropping the franchise?

Hopefully Sega as then SI could give us a decent management game as well as Sega doing a racer. Although Codemasters would be ok, as long as it's not someone making crock o' shit arcade racers which are piece of piss a'la Sony

Only if they use the physics from GTR as the ones they used in GT legends and GTR 2 aren't up to much.

My bros mate has those I think or ones very similar with the proper top hinged pedals. Wish I could win the lottery though would have the front of a F1 car full size and on hydrolics. How cool would that be.

If you'd all like to donate £1 to me then I might be able to afford that wink.gif

GIVE it? F1 would GIVE it to the worst sim/game maker in the world as long as several billion dollars/pounds were paid for the license.

EA / ISI did a good job when they had the license. Let them have it back.

Best of all worlds: rFactor with an F1 license ...
Hacklerf
i dont care who gets it, as long as its released on multi platforms, the F1 game is the only reason i bought a PlayStation3,

Sony sucks ass

Once upon a time Sony was an innovative company that made quality products. Now the only innovative people works in the marketing and copyright departments.

So you would like to change crap to manure? lol.gif

There is very few gamehouses who could do F1 simulation everyone is happy about.
EA growned up by skills and quality since very crap F1 2000.
Sony has managed to do only below average F1 games with sweet outlook. Their games are like good looking cream cakes, but done with shaving cream...

IMO license should go even back to EA or to developers of GTLegends and GTR.

the boys who made Forza motorsport know how to make a simulator, i bet they would love it, but sadly it will go to who ever has the biggest wallet
MaxScelerate
Please no.

Either don't sell an officially endorsed, exclusive license OR sell it to a multiplatform developper.

"I so hated that stupid Sony-Playstation license, them fuckers now better make it a MS exclusive" confused.gif

SimBin have the technical nous, but disqualify themselves for using abhorrent apps like Starforce and Steam. The reason I bought the CD disk of Race is so that I wouldn't have to go online and download the whole game. I have the official disk, why should it be necessary for me to activate the game online? Just supply a key code on the box and let me play the game I've already paid for.

I agree with Maxscelerate, it should go to a multi-platform developer. The F1 brand is too big to belong to just one platform.
Rich
From bad to worse, I just found out that Race is not activated online - the whole darn game, every single file, has to be downloaded from Steam. At local dialup rates, this game would have cost me three times as much as any other computer game in telephone charges alone. And that's AFTER paying full retail price for the game in the store.

I just sent an email to SimBin, and will call the local SA agent for the game first thing tomorrow. Neither recipient is going to have a particularly bright start to their day.
Rich
Well, that was painless. The store instantly offered me a full refund, and is also going to stop stocking the game until the distributor includes all the necessary installation files on the retail CD. The manager was furious that the agents hadn't told him about the Steam aspect, and fully agreed with me that it is ridiculous to expect the buyer to download all the necessary installation files after paying full retail price for the game. So well done, SimBin/Eidos. In your efforts to reduce piracy, you're also losing a bunch of legitimate retail sales. up.gif

Actually it would be in FOM's best interest to sell the F1 rights to multiple developers. Competition will drive up the quality of the F1 games (the rights would be worth less though). So let's say EA and Codemasters. Or a some other combination.
Limits
If they wanted to, they could sell the license with quality demands and provide real race data for use in the game. Then we could download the last race and put ourselves in one of the cars and see what would happen. GPS data from each car could make them drive almost exactly as they did in the race, but your own actions would of course change things a lot. I can imagine it being quite fun to let them race alone until a certain point and then you take control of a car and see what happens if someone as talented as yourself was behind the wheel smile.gif

It must be a lot of potential still unexplored in the racing simulator business.
