What type of "history" are they asking to be safeguarded?

Not knowing exactly what the material is, I would still say copy onto CD/Rom and list whatever documents and records there are, with at least 2 copies held in safe places.

ry6 is a walking, talking, breathing subject.
I know from experience that he can e-mail.
He has written/writes about S.Afr motorsports.
You can probably do a BB search for his posts.

May I ask who these people are?
I only know a handful of chaps in SA with a real interest in local motorsport history, but so many people with "dark motives" have been asking for help, etc in the past. Throw your cards on the table and I'm sure that one can progress from there.

I can't think of a better person than Hieronymous - a long time TNfer.
He is passionate about preserving 'our' motor sport history and is a dedicated historian.
Please contact him.
I would of course also like a 'look' at the material if possible.

When I was doing the South African Book for the Formula 1 Register, the late Peter Mcintosh sent me loads of hand-written stats, most of which I entered on the computer for our Formule Libre section (unpublished). There are many lap charts as well. I could photo copy them if anyone is interested. They would have to be really, really interested because there is quite a lot and it would take quite a bit of time
Cheers

Paul,
This is a most generous offer and I hope that "Hieronymus" can take up the torch on this. As Rob correctly points out, "Hieronymus" seems the likely person to do it. He definitely seems to have the interest, knowledge, and motivation to be the one to head this effort. I have dealt with Rob in the past and greatly respect his judgment and most certainly agree with it in this case.
Keep in mind that the IMRRC is another resource that could possibly assist in this worthy endeavor.
Regards,
Don

Thanks for the kind words, Don.
I am flattered with Rob's remarks. I always regard Rob as the chap with the right cridentials when it comes to SA racing history. At least he can show his efforts in print. I am just a super-enthusiast that do my best to keep the fire burning. I am very worried about the utter lack of interest in our racing heritage amongst my peers, so I try to ducument/gather whatever I can find. Naturally making availible whatever I have in my collection to others for research and reference purposes.
On the subject of Peter Macintosh. I knew him well. Peter had probably the best collection on South African racing. Files and files of items. The last I heard is that the whole collection went to a motor club in Johannesburg. Not sure what they do with all this very valuable documents and information. I had visions of these stuff gather dust in a room or the worst scenario...landing up in a dustbin or on Ebay.

Thanks to the kindness of Marius Mathee I have been sent copies of all Peter MacIntosh's notes for Formula Atlantic and its 1980s derivatives in South Africa. These are being slowly worked through and, in conjunction with other sources, will be published eventually on oldracingcars.com. I've nearly finished 1978...
