Does anyone have any information on Squadra Tartaruga? I would also love to track down a logo as I've recently acquired a 1959 Abarth Record Monza that was raced by its first three owners, the first and third of which were members of 'team turtle'.
I understand it was a group of a dozen-or-so Swiss privateers initiated by Rico Steinemann who later replaced Huschke von Hanstein as race director of Porsche in 1969 but have been unable to confirm this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I do not recall having ever seen a logo - be it a turtle or anything else. I think it was just the team's name indicated on the cockpit.

Oh, and closer to your question: Hans Illert's Abarth displayed it on the front, instead.

May I suggest you have a look at the Dieter Spoerry thread , and perhaps contact Kenel Nadine ?

It would be nice , when people open threads and get some links , to know if they were of any use for them.
Please have a look at post 4.

You're right, Ben, with your first post. The Tartaruga members were privateers, racing their own cars. And there's sad news for everybody interested in this thread. Xavier Perrot, one of Squadra Tartaruga's most well-known members, passed away a few days ago.

Very sad and my condolences to all those affected.
2008 really has been a wretched year in nearly every respect.

This is part of some info from Motor Sport , I believe in 64 :
SQUADRA TARTARUGA INTERNATIONAL
This exotic-sounding title disguises the identity of a group of Swiss and English drivers who have joined together to race saloon cars.
The Swiss Squadra Tartaruga team started first and was formed by a group of drivers who banded together to pool spares, information , share facilities and so on.
John Aley , the well known British saloon car driver , met some of the membersand became an honorary member of the team. He raced with the team on the continent and eventually began handling entries for its members in British races , notably the 6 hours at Brands Hatch.
John Aley has been joined by John Thurston , Sheridan Thynne , Charles Stancomb and John Terry , and as they are interested in taking part in the races counting for the ETC Challenge and small continental meetings , Squadra Tartaruga in Zurich arranges their entries.
