Full Version: Foot fetiche! Onboard videos thread

I've been looking for onboard videos focusing on the driver's feet/pedal work, heel'n'toe technique, but it's not easy to find.
Especially hard are F1 videos! I think there's one on Satoru Nakajima onboard on suzuka (someone here mentioned that), it's pointed at the footbox and you can see the fancy footwork, but I've never seen it!

Apart from F1 it would also be interesting to see any Sports-car, Group C, or other category where they still have to work the clutch! Rally is of course also interesting, I just enphasized F1 because it's hard to come by.

So if you know any videos please share smile.gif

dont know about nakajima, but there was some footage of katayama's pedal work in the tyrrell at suzuka in, i believe 1995 race. that was part of normal race tv coverage, so you just need to find video of that race.

this is video of former F3 and F Atlantic driver Chris O'Brien doing heel and toe at rouen in a ferrari 312f1 cat.gif

While working at FOM, we did several experiments with pedalbox cameras. I am sure we did Jacques Villeneuve at Spa, when he was threatening to take eau rouge flat, and I know we put one in Panis' car. I need to find my old note books to find the where and whens, but I don't know if they made it into the public domain, so it could be pointless looking.

I have seen footage in a Pirelli film of Fangio's "foot action" (250F at Modena I think, and some in a D50).

You can find a few seconds in this footage of Jimmy, blink and you'll miss it though

Same driver, similar car. Not really feet but you can see his knees. The Nurburgring in 6m ins 55 secs!

For those who have not seen it before - turn up the volume smile.gif

No discussion about footwell action would be complete without a mention of Walter Rohrl's 'Happy Feet': http://omor.com/STi/archives/2005/10/walter_rohrls_h.html

Left foot braking at it's best!

Notice he uses a footrest where Vergers doesn't.

How did they drive like that through those crowds of people?

Whereas Vergers is on a circuit, Rohrl is on the rough stuff. Even though a competition clutch is heavy, I can only assume Rohrl uses the rest to steady himself so as not to dab the clutch over heavy bumps?

Any pros here care to enlighten us?

Rohrl is a top legend in my book clap.gif

I'm not an expert but raced Formula Ford for 13 years. I had a foot rest and actually set the postion so that I could use the rest and clutch pedal at the same time.I didn't wan't to ride the clutch but notice Vergers foot is always applying a little pressure to it.

There's no room to left foot brake in my car so I use the flat of my foot to brake and accelerate (as Vergers does).

Rallies tend to be very long so I can see the need to not put any extra pressure on the clutch than is required. My races only lasted 20 odd minutes so perhaps a footrest is not important, although I only have ever had one clutch failure due to the clutch plate breaking.

That's cool smile.gif Very smooth, looks like is driving a real car. I must say that at first I was expecting a real 312 though tongue.gif

Here's one from a V8 aussie championship:

And a japanase dude with what looks like a Toyota Corolla Twincam but sounds good and with trick pedals:

There's a few feet of footage of contemporary Formula Ford footwork found forthwith:
