Force India F1 is named.
I suppose force sounds a little more intentional than team, a going places name. but also aggressive? perhaps vallya is just a star wars fan?
or is it more simply just bernie's new business plan?

Force India F1
Who came up with that name! No offence to India, it's the 'Force' part which is way too cheesy.
Good luck getting sponsors lads.

The list of F1 teams with ridiculous... (ehm, untraditional) names is getting bigger. Squadra Toro Rosso, Super Aguri, Force India... What's next? Some African baron buying a team and renaming it into 'Zulu Revenge'?

Nicely split mr moderator.
You should lock the other thread too probably to stop confusion.

They're not called Squadra Toro Rosso, for a start, they changed their plans for the very reason that it was untraditional.
Super Aguri is a great name, and it doesn't matter what Spyker end up being called, 'cause they'll be at the back of the grid anyhow. Zulu Revenge, presumably bankrolled by Tony Teixeira, would be a bloody awesome name for a team, though...

It's Scuderia ...

At first it was Squadra, but as this has more to do with football it was soon renamed Scuderia Toro Rosso.
Anyway, Indian Force, what a ridiculous name for a Formula 1 team, which (as well as the Indian flag in the logo of the team) also goes to show Mallya's sayings are a lot bigger than that of the Mol family...

i'd totally support a f1 team named "zulu revenge"

It's probably a bit in your face, ram it down your throat for the majority in here. For example an equivalent "Force Britannia" sounds a bit pompous, so I guess this one does too.
At least it is a flag for developing nations to jump on the band wagon in similar fashion, which is not a bad thing for a sport with global asiprations to rival football.

Andy
for some reason it reminds me of sex panther, from anchorman. i wonder if they considered that as a team name. sex panther - 60 per cent of the time, it works every time. i hear they've already got kimi on board.

With that name they had better have at least one Indian driver next season or it's going to look a bit ridiculous.

I remember someone here recently saying something along the lines... "these new F1 teams sound like a bunch of posers:
Super Aguri....
Pro Drive .... now we're probably going to have
King Fisher ..."
But FORCE INDIA?!

FORCE?!
Might just as well name it "Best F1 Team Ever For The Benefit Of The Glorious Nation Of India".

True, but this is F1, not A1GP

Gosh, Force India is awful....Hard to support a team with such a name.
Imagine if Europe followed suit. Next ones:
British Empire Attacks! F1 team
Germany Uber Alles F1
Allez Allez Team France F1
Team Force India F1 ...this is beyond cheesy...

Against illustrious names such as Ferrari, McLaren, Honda, BMW, etc., we have Red Bull, Super Aguri and Force India :-/

How is Super Aguri any different than McLaren. They're both surnames.
Aguri is his first name, Suzuki the surname, not used for obvious reasons. But you knew that anyway!

When I typed that... I'd forgotten that. (the fact it wasn't his surname... obviously I can see why Suzuki F1 would have raised an eyebrow)

Change the name of their F1 team with any luck.
Force India sounds a bit like bad english to me, is it usual to call a sports team like that anywhere.

Not the greatest name..
But hey... It would be good if India get some success.
I thought Carl Haas owned the FORCE name for F1??

A few years ago, there was a F-3000 team called "Brazilian Blood".
In formula One, we had "Scuderia Italia", and Eddie's new venture would be called "Jordan Ireland"
So, nothing new. Odd, but nothing new

It's obvious to me were he's coming from and interesting to compare his take on the Netherlands. It's what I expect an Indian to do. Odd for Westerners maybe..

Force India
nice nice. We are a force to be reckoned with. 1.1 billion woo hooo. This is awesome. I have been waiting for this for so so long. Now we need a good Indian driver.
Well, it looks like the team has gone full circle. First named after a country, then named after a bank, then a character in Star Wars, now it is back to being named after a country again......
I'll get my coat.

Mallya is a very very astute business man. He is oging ot give India and alternative to cricket. You need to understand what Cricket is in India. If his gig pulls off he is going to be very very rich and popular.

Was there? Wow. I thought Il Barone Rampante was a mad team name.
Go further back and you have lots of good nationalistic team names...All/Anglo-American Racers...British Racing Motors...Ecurie Galloise...Ecurie Nationale Belge...and the unforgettable IRA (Irish Racing Automobile)...

BRP as well (British Racing Partnership).
Personally, I've never understood Écurie Écosse. Why have the name be French?
It's not just because I'm Dutch, but I find this a farce. If this gipsy-like guy wants to promote India, fine....
Let him run in A1 Grand Prix
