Hello there
I'm planning to attend Turkish GP and would like to have some tips regarding hotels and especially which grandstand tickets to buy. I've always wanted to see famous Turn 8 and to my big surprise these seem to be the cheapest tickets(Grandstand Bronze No.3). If someone has been there, please give info if they are good seats.
Thanks

I am going as well. I don't see the point in getting Turn 8 seats as the cars are going extremely fast and the grandstand seems to be too far from the track. I would not like to go there to see the cars the size of hot wheels. Usually the cheaper the ticket the less good they are.
I bought Silver Tribun 8.
As far as hotel goes, I booked a hotel very close to the Blue Mosque. I have never been to Istanbul but I was told this is a good location and that there shouldn't be too much trouble getting from there to the track (by bus).
PS: The turn 8 grandstand is tribun 4 and it is right at the fourth apex of Turn 8.
Thanks for the info, but I could not find Tribun 4? Tribun 3 and 5, but not nr. 4? Tribun 8 is probably excellent, got some nice corners and probably view to start-finish straight as well. Do you know if it's free access to all grandstands on Fridays?
Did you buy tickets throught F1.com? I think organisers charge a whopping 45 euros for delivery,
http://www.turkeygrandprix.com/en/f1/tickets.htm , but with F1.com, you just print a voucher and exchange to a ticket a track
Maybe I'll look for an aparment and arrive few days before GP, so there's chance to see Istanbul as well, usually Fri, Sat, Sun are dedicated just for F1

I've had nothing but good experiences buying from F1tickets.com. I've bought tickets to Malaysia, Brazil, Italy and now Turkey and I've never experienced any kind of problems.
Their "limited time" prices (from turkeygrandprix.com) are the same as the "regular" prices from f1tickets.com and like you said, their delivery charges are cheaper (and through a reliable carrier).

Does anyone knows if it is possible to purchase the ticket once I'm in Turkey?

Some of the Hotels in Turkey are excellent. Personally I like the Marmara in Taksim.
Word of warning to those of you going to Turkey without wives/girlfriends etc....
DO NOT ever buy any female "stranger" a drink in a bar
Check the cover charge and drinks prices before you enter any bar of turkish dance club
I have been to Turkey many times and have had some horrendous experiences. As a foreigner they will try to rob you of your money, whether legally or illegally and have no qualms in beating up foreigners.
Thanks for tip F1 traveller
How is the transportation to track? Does it take long and how much? By busses I guess?
Being a racing fan in Istanbul, I've attended several races in Istanbul Park - including DTM, World Series by Renault, solar car racing, MotoGP (x2) and F1 (x2). Sadly, I've missed WTCC and cancelled LMES races due to poor weather conditions. I've watched races from GA near Tribun 1 (first turn) and turn 8. I've also sat in Tribun 8 and main grandstand. In Istanbul Park, the main problem for a spectator is that you cannot see the whole track from any point. The upper floor of the main grandstand provides the most, however. Tribun 8 was good for MotoGP as it provided plenty of overtaking.
In 2006, we walked to see how the view was from turn 8. For some time we stayed and watched from the tribun 2/3 area. I can say that the view is limited. The only thing you will be able to see is the 2 or 3 turns. I didn't find the area to be much exciting, but I was in the GA area so I cannot speak for the stands.
For three years the race was in August, in which the heat was torturing. This year the race will be held in May so I expect mild weather conditions. I think it will be beautiful. Not so hot nor cold - just beautiful.
About transportation... The racetrack is away from town. It takes ~1 hour to reach by the buses. The buses may be crowded (especially when returning after the race) and the 1 hour road back to the city might be very tiring after the all weekend is over. So, if you manage to have a car, that will be more comfortable...
The race has never been sold out, so this year I don't think it will be either. You can purchase your tickets in Turkey. I don't think it'll be a problem...
My advise is, make some time to see Istanbul. It is a city with 2500 year history, so you will find plenty of exciting stuff from Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. F1traveller might be right, some people are just not giving the tourists a break, but you do not have to be ULTRA cafeful. Just be careful and remember that you are in a crowded metropolitan city just like any other...
Cheers D82, excellent info
Just have to decide what Tribun to choose, otherwise I'm all set for Istanbul 2008
You're welcome. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions...

Fellas,
I have two tickets to Tribun 8 (Last corner) that I will not be using. I am looking to sell them at face value (225 euros each) plus shipping costs. The total for both tickets would be 467 euros. Tickets will be delivered directly from F1tickets.com around 2 weeks before the race.
If anyone is interested please leave a message here and PM me.
Thanks!
