We can't have been standing too far apart, Mr Jones...

The driver of car 21 is Steve Brassington (rather than foreversideways/foreverlurching/foreverleering, aka Ray Robinson) and I think #4 is one-make talisman Brian Farminer.

Watching Renault 5s at Oulton you quickly came to appreciate the natural beauty of the Cheshire countryside ;)

And talking of Steve Jones and Renault 5s........

...how spooky is that?

Hahahah no it's Steve Brassington. There is another one of him crashing there a bit futher back in the thread but your sequence is fantastic.

He was making a habit of it, here he is destroying her at Copse, Silverstone a few weeks earlier. In particular i like the flying glass.

Blimey that takes you back...the railway sleepers, the catch fences, the way debrs fencing stops after the corner, the old scaffolding photographers stand....no doubt good old P S-R on the commentary....
Definitely happier times in rural Northamptonshire!

There would appear to be a VK Holden Commodore No3 in the front of the midfield of this race. Was that John Cleland? In the ex Peter Brock GpC Tourer. If so the car is now back in Oz and has been restored to its original bathurst trim.

This is the car Brockie ran at Goodwood Festival of speed the first time he came over. I remember him giving a long interview over the PA about it - always a man who could put his enthusiasm for the sport into words .

Upon meeting him I was quite struck by his obvious surprise that we Brits all knew who he was! I had a Bathurst programme from the early 80's for him to sign and his eyes lit up "Where'd you get this? Are you an Australian?" then looking at the artwork on the cover of him some 25 or so years before grinned and said " Havn't aged a bit have I?"

Legend is a word that is used far too often but I met a real one that day.

Just join this forum from France and be impressive by your "British club racing" photos and description clap.gif

If someone can help me (and undestand my "old french school english"!) I am looking for information about a British? driver, named Lingard Goulding.

He raced in 1970 AND 71 on a F5000 BEATTIES and on a Alpine single seater F3 during 1972 season.

On 30 july 1972 he raced at Truxton with this Alpine F3 N° 75.

He raced also in France and Germany, but i don't find any classification and photo of this pilot confused.gif

Hope pics for my Chrismas, please Pére Noêl ;)

Salut Chris - bienvenue a TFN!

As Alan mentions, there is a photo of the Beattie and, if you search on the forum, various mentions of Lingard Goulding. If you haven't searched before, try 'Search BB' from the top right hand corner, 'Lingard' should be enough and, in this case, select 'Show posts' not threads. I'll have a look in my old Motoring News!

Yes, it's the ex-HDT Commodore (raced as a Vauxhall Senator over here), but Vauxhall and Cleland had moved on from it a couple of years before, and were running the Carlton- (also seen on the video, car #1 with Mobil 1 sponsorship which was purpose-built for Thundersaloons with a 6-litre Chevy)

The Commodore/Senator was sold on and continued to race in the series- I'm trying to remember who the later owner was: Pete Stevens or a similar name?

That video brings back some memories- I always enjoyed Thundersaloons. Most of the old favourites seem to be there- 'Stars & Stripes' Manta, the Carlton, Senator, the Mann's Racing RX7, Rod Birley's Sierra-Porsche, the Ecurie Ecosse Manta 400....

Chris361,

After looking in my old Autosport magazines (1970) I found these information about the Beattie F 5000 / Lingard Goulding.

Lingard Goulding - Beattie F5000

Advert Autosport 12 november 1970 - page 38

Autosport 6 august 1970 - page 3

Steve Brassington just after the hairpin at Mallory in Elden

A very motley crew in the Mallory paddock

A bleak 70's Silverstone paddock. And Bernie thinks it's bad now !!!

Nice period photos sideways, although you kindly named the year, the hair and the flares were a bit of a clue wink.gif

Agreed. I look forward to the earlier years. Great to see Campbell McLaren's Zagato among the Scots club regulars. The shot of Eddie Labinjoh is the first I have seen of the Fisher BDA Spyder. What was it originally?

In Oz we call them Sports Sedans. Similar concept I feel.
I used to race [for about 20 years] a Torana XU1 with a 6 litre Chev. Our Toranas were basically a HC Viva with a decent strong chassis and a longer front. Was an interesting thing, 580 hp and it weighed 920kg

Quite a few GpC Tourers ended up in the Sports Sedan ranks here too.

Hmmm, what's this about yellow Hawkes? I had a blue and white one that I painted yellow, and then I later bough an ex-works yellow one (yellow used to be the works Hawkes colours, but I guess you knew that...). Glad you enjoyed the pix, I'll try and get some more up once Christmas is out of the way!

Regarding the Fisher Special, I think there were one-or-two of these over the years! Fishers of course used to be the Edinburgh Alfa Romeo agent many years ago. One of the Fisher Specials was powered by a BMC Mini engine mounted transversely (naturally) immediately behind the driver. I remember an incident at Ingliston (later confirmed by a conversation with Eddie Labinjoh himself – he’s still selling cars in Edinburgh) when the flywheel sheared off and cut its way through one of the chassis tubes, and I think I’m right in saying that Eddie felt it hit the firewall at his back!!

I’m sure there are others on this forum (in fact, this thread) who know more about these Fisher specials than me....

The question came up in conversation, who drove the works yellow Hawkes in the mid 70's. Daly, Warwick, Devaney and one more that I can't remember smile.gif

This is one of the surviving Fisher Specials which is now clothed in a Gropa body:

Taken at the Bo'ness Revival Meeting in august this year.

And another Hawke. This is for coupekarter...

Is that Dave Scott behind you, Dave?

Is the Hawke a DL19? Strange how from being so good in 76 with the DL15, the subsequent cars, 17,19, 20 slipped down the FF fields. Was the DL15 flattered by its, with hindsight, brilliant drivers (Daly,Warwick, Devaney, Morris, Bullman etc), or did the oppostion, Royale, Crossle, VDs, become better developed??

What about Clubmans B stars who went onto S2000, Steve??...
