Which one of this trio has an Oulton Park Medical Centre claim to fame - of sorts?
Alan Cox
Don't know the answer to Ian's poser, but I wouldn't say Warwick was 'out of shape', Phil - it looks pretty controlled to me.

24th March 1974 and my first visit to Mallory Park, hence the lack of knowledge in where to position myself.
Richard Hawkins/Elden
Syd Fox/Mike Young and Mike White
A pretty impressive crowd for an FF thrash, I think you'll agree, but they were, in fact, there for the second round of the Rothmans F5000 championship.
Mondiale M85S
I'd imagine me and my dad are in the crowd somewhere, despite me being only 2 and a half years old. He didn't like to miss his F5000 meetings...... up.gif

That head on position at the hairpin used to be a great place to stand, i still have some hazy memories of peering over the fence watching 3 heats and a final for the FF1600's.

Great days.

Escort Mexico racing, Oulton Park 1974-style. Colin Vandervell leading.

Catchpole's much-missed creator, the supremely gifted Barry Foley, enjoying some Clubman's racing with the St Bruno Roughcutter. Front row features Foley (pole), Noel Stanbury and Caldwell Smythe.

The FF Festival was pretty popular with the crowds in the 80's. Come the final empty seats in the Paddock Grandstand were limited smile.gif

This is 1986.

Alan's hairpin FF pic I don't think shows Mike White, he didn't come over from ZA until 1978. I presume its Roger White isn't it, Elden maybe?? Fox in Hawke and Young in VD RF74 I think.

OK, the answer is Bryan Mullarkey.
Last race meeting of whatever season it was and Bryan had a big off and a visit to the Med Centre. Details logged in the Accident Book.
First test day of following season and Bryan had another big off and reacquaintance with the Med Centre. Under drivers details in the Accident Book, they could have just put "ditto".

He had consecutive entries in different years. Not a lot of people know that - or probably would want to know for that matter.

Mallory 1986 - I can't remember who the driver of 31 is, although his helmet looks familiar. Paul Warwick follows.

Andrew Raybould was soon off to Van Dieman for a new nosecone

Ex Formula E racer Simon Olley attempts to take ?? at Gerrards.

I wonder how many bored spectators aimed their old beer cans at the targets by the lake?

No31 is Antonio Russo i'd say?

All of the few that were there - if they could be bothered - I would guess.

It was a bit different in the early seventies, three heats and then a final, with anybody capable of victory from the top ten in each.

I remember a Formula Atlantic race that Ken Bailey qualified on pole for at Mallory. He fluffed the start and it was then a battle royal between Purley, Nicholson and Mallock with Bailey trying to catch up. Mallock won as I remember; he was quick around Mallory. Dave Morgan had the place sorted as well - first time in an F5000 car and he won pole. A regrettable non-starter though I seem to recall.

EDIT: Apologies for the last paragraph - I'd obviously "gone" again. (Not long now)...

No input on the race cars, but amazing that I used to sell Silver Reed back in the '80s and knew nothing of their involvement in sponsorship!

I have lost the Programme for this meeting. While I am fairly certain Car No 3 is Dave Hart, I have no idea who the inverted individual is blush.gif

Sorry, not Dan as he will be having a Sunday off. In the livery of Border Reivers it will be Doug Niven, Norman.

Having said that the Border Reivers livery indicates Doug Niven, I note that Jeff Wilson retained the livery into 1980. Johnny Rutherford Ltd were plant hire contractors from Berwick on Tweed and were one of Niven's sponsors.

PS In the Mallory pic, I can read 'Doug Niven' on the door.
Phil Rainford
With regards to the Beetle and its driver.......

Look at the numer of Shell Stars on the roof, they are reduced in number in 1980 compared to 1979.

Which could signify different drivers, unless of course they had to be stripped off at the end of each year confused.gif

Summer 1980. Altrincham FC were the team to beat in the Alliance Premier League, Lipps Inc released Funkytown, Narada Michael Walden staked a claim for having one of the silliest names ever to grace the Top 40, Debbie Harry exhorted the world to Call Me and Olivia Newton-John teamed up with the Electric Light Orchestra for Xanadu. Elsewhere, meanwhile...

Tim Lee-Davey seemed to know where he was going, even though his Tiga FF79 was entered by Mark Thatcher Racing.

Dave Coyne (Royale RP26) was preparing for a career that blended outrageous speed with equally outrageous absence of even-handed opportunity.

Mike Boulton (Image FF5) had little clue about his future direction...

...and Chris Meek became the first man to enter a prodsports race in a car named after the Peruvian capital.
