Correct Alan. Titled by the circuit owner (Chris Meek), named after his young son. His christmas card celebrated the naming, front and back of the card scanned here:
Crikey, I had no idea it had all those wiggly bits these days.
I hope they still at least occasionally use the proper "full" circuit?

Don't worry Mark, the wiggly bits are only for the 2 wheelers. The cars used the Edwina's chicane before the Esses just once a few years ago, but few liked it.

Here is a shot from Longridge, is this the nose referred to above?
Having thrashed the scanner with twigs, here are a few more from the Houbigant meeting. I'm not in mourning, but the black borders seem immune to cropping and I can't be bothered to do it again.
Dave Preece. How many racing dentists have there been?
Dear old Frank Lockhart
Andrew Spurling has a bad day
Richard Pilkington
Trisha Pilkington gets it right, Wayne Hardman doesn't
Mike Salmon and John Harper
James Murray and Malcolm McGregor

Thats the nose i remember most, like i said i was only a nipper when Ian was racing ,i do remember he had an off at Longridge in the Kincraft , maybe that brought about the front end change.
I have my doubts even if it was the Kincraft that he bumped or the McRae, i do remember running round to where he was sat on the fence watching the rest of the race.

Apart from Dave Preece and Tony Brooks? There is Dick Smith, VSCC 'Nash racer. Beyond those names, I don't know.

Eddie Jordan trained a bit to become a dentist.
I'm sure there was a Sports 2000 driver who was a dentist. Mallory Dan will no doubt furnish us with a name shortly. I seem to recall he suffered a big accident - with fire - maybe before the Sp2000 days. Something like Sheldon, maybe John.
And some chap recently involved in F1 called Kolles, or something similar, whether he ever raced though I don't know.

yes Ian, John Driller Sheldon, IIRC Richard Jenevy also a dentist, Melvyn Coon had a brother also racing,I attende a race meeting at Brands where the commentator referred to them as Tycoon and Racoon .

Derek Hood was a dentist. Now the owner of JD Classics and historic Jaguar racer in anything from C-types to Group C XJR-11s.
You can add the late John Harris (VSCC all-rounder) to the list of dentist racers.

apologies substitute Mrecer for Jenevy.

I'm guessing the accident Ian mentioned is the one at Le Mans in '84 involving both Nimrod-Astons - Sheldon crashed heavily on the Mulsanne and the car caught fire (as I remember he got out of it with severe burns- I think a marshal was killed in the incident) and Drake Olsen in the other Nimrod either hit the wreckage or crashed while trying to avoid it

Group C cars obviously hold a particular appeal for dentists- apart from Derek Hood, the already mentioned John Sheldon and David Mercer were both sportscar regulars in the 80's and Mercer has been running a Spice in historic Group C in the last few years...
Mention of Colin Kolles reminds me- when he was running whatever incarnation of the former Jordan F1 team he was involved with (either Midland or Spyker) I have a vague memory he was once called on to use his dentistry skills at a GP when one of their drivers needed emergency dental treatment during the GP weekend!
Now for the rustic charms of Snetterton on the 9th July, 1978.
Here we have Frank Sytner in 19, no.4 not in the programme
And here's Frank again going inside John Brindley
Ah, the good old days when you could stand on top of the pits...Afraid I can't identify any of these for certain
...but this is Clive Wood
Must have been someone practising out of session here, following John Digby and Graeme Sutton. The roof of that fire truck looks a bit battered! BTW, has anyone got any snaps of the old Sideways Garage tow truck?
Ashley Ward takes to the escape road for the benefit of the photographer
A duff picture but it gets in because it's Adrian Reynard
The helmet is presumably Chris Skellern, 33 is Neil Bettridge, 19 David Leslie, 22's name not in the prog but I think is Steve Farthing, then Rick Gorne
Chris Reynolds overshoots the esses, 3 is Allen Crawford

Bravo! More Snett please.
Those Sports 2000 shots at Riches, in the good old days when spectators could watch from there...I remember when there used to be a covered stand there. Now the run off is so big, the armco is actually the site boundary with farmers field beyond. I hear more land has been purchased from the farmer to extend the run off even more. Not suprising really when WSR cars testing there take it flat in top.
Adrian Reynard has gone straight on, onto the drag strip start area and that is an excellent shot of the old 'Home straight' on the old pre-1974 2.71 mile circuit ( photo with battered land rover roof ). Terrific stuff.
OOPS- EDIT - Not Adrian, the other chap.

Good old Chris.
I drove back from Tiga's with the straightened chassis of that car on the roof of my Fiat 124, following some impromptu aerobatics by Mr Reynalds at Brands. For some reason we had to go through London to pick something else up. It was a steaming hot day and the only way I could stop the old Fiat from boiling over was to have the heating flat out and the windows wide open:blush:
As an aside Chris was also a child actor and appeared in The Railway Children alongside journalist Chris Witty.

The course of the old circuit can be seen quite clearly. The Norwich straight ran just infront of the hedge / tree line in the distance. The parallel A11 trunk road was just the other side of this hedge, the hangar in the distance is the other side of the main road. You can just make out the Esso petrol station ( white building just infront of the hangar ). This was used by some as a braking point at the end of the straight for the right hander hairpin, before the blast back down the home straight to the left hander that went under the bailey bridge. This photo is taken from the paddock side of that bridge.

Is the green car mid pack the Lola T492 of Peter Sadler, or Brian Lennox?
If the latter, any more shots of it.

Thanks Eddie,
I just couldn't remember which season we did Sp2000. So it was 1979 then.
Anybody got any 1979 shots of the green Lola T492 please?
Off topic
We had an Irish family at a race school last Sunday and I asked what part of Ireland.
Tallaght came the reply.
I said that a pal of mine used to have the Texaco station there.
It turns out that Dad worked for Brian 33 years ago and the son pumped petrol there when he was 17.
Small world isn't it?

Then no.4 Lola T490 will either be John Trevelyan or Chris Alford, both used Standard Motorist Centre Loals in '78. In the FF2000 pic, after the cars listed, are the works Delta T78s, at a guess Mike White and Jorge Koechlin. Next to them is the ex-Gray Scorpion Royale RP25, Leon Walger possibly?
No idea on the Clubmans Bs...

Wasn't Alford usually (always?) number 3 and, similarly, Trevelyan number 4 that season?

think you remember?

Chris Alford was no.3, Trevelyan not present unless he was a late entrant.
In the FF2000, White and Koechlin were both there, as was Walger.

The two Gary's Ayles and Thomas
Simon Wayne
Jason Elliot smoothing out the underside of his nosecone!
Now if I had lifted the camera up slightly I may have got Phil Rainfords feet in focus, which is more than can be said for the cars

Don't say things like that Simon!! In my research of Dad's racing, so far I have two P100 races, the 25th June and the 9th October 1988, Brands and Cadwell respectively - mosre research needed!!
Unfortunatley I have no photos and sorry for going off-topic (blurgh!!); Dad drove a P100 for the late Jackie Epstein (whoever chose his photo in Autosport, Motorsport News, etc should be shot!!) and he only stopped racing the P100 when he "officially" found out the tyres were full of helium!!
