Great stuff! I'd say F3 in the UK qualifies to be here, yes. That colour one looks like the October meeting 1970 when James Hunt took up kick-boxing. From left to right Birrell, Hunt, Walker.

Hi All
Yes i was there racing in a mini cooper s in the british saloon car championship, and i remember that incident when the two of them collided coming out of the last corner, and james hunt got out of what was left of there cars and laid into the other driver.

Cheers,

I went for a nostalgic visit a few months ago as well smile.gif

There's talk of a sprint meeting being run at the old place next year.

23rd June 1985 and while Canadian rocker Bryan Adams was taking everyone to " Heaven " in the pop charts, the 750 MC was providing their own unique brand of entertainment at Mallory Park.......

Andrew Wareing was trying to improve on his third place in the 750MC Sports car Modified Series in his Lotus Elan

While describing Richard Urwin's Brabam BT28 as "immaculate" hardly does it justice

John Packham gets the power down in his Royale RP26

I should know who this is but I just can't remember....

Yes and no, Baby Bertha was 2/3 years away by then, so a bit teneous really!!
Great picture of Old Nail with the front Air dam though - she had a few over the years and was/is the most developed Vauxhall of all time and it's a great honour for Donington to now have her as one of their main displays.

I'm sorry Gregor, for some reason I did not put a caption with the photo; it was taken in October 74. iirc the dam was too deep and scraped on the ground under braking, hence the kink in the middle.

I've got some shots from March of that year and the nose on the Nail was standard droop-snoot.

No need to apologise - unfortunately Old Nail is the ugly sister so to speak and even more important with the current Vauxhall news (she was the first racing Firenza of Viva HC Coupe if you want to be technical); she was the most important, successfull and original DTV and Gerry Marshall car and does she get invited anywhere? I think you know the unfortunate answer.

Any pics you have would be greaatly appreciated; I think for a car that did less than 100 events and won 63 with Dad driving is pretty good going!!

Didn't it do a barrel-roll down The Avenue at Oulton? Or was that a different version?

That car (and of course the driver wink.gif ) was the "Marshall's Favourite, no pun intended, on the slowing down lap after each appearance at Oulton I've never seen so much fuss from the flag and extinguisher brigade.

I'll post some more shots but first I have to scan them in and then post on my website (why can't we just paste 'em in here, like on other sites?) which is all a bit of a palaver but I'm not going up the Flikr/Bucket route; I'm currently in the middle of a big job for the LMC '10 and off on the road this week, so it may take a while. It's taken 35 years already, so a few more days probably will not matter. roflmao.gif

Dave Millington car - rolled heavily at Oulton as Alan Cox thought - reshelled and continued racing in UK - then sold to Mervyn Dornford from Puerto Rico who now lives Miami - I believe car being rebuilt - thought to be one of the original 4 such cars built by Bill Blydenstein

Yeah, that's Tony Davies in the "Transpeed" Firenza - he's had it for 25+ years, still races it and it's very original. Tony did share it with Dad a few times in thundersaloons in the '80s

Yep, as Malcolm has pointed out (that took me 6 months research Malcolm!!) - the one missing bit is that it was built out of one of the original DTV Viva GTs that were written off at Lydden Hill, all the running gear was trasferred in to a Viva HC for Stan Burge, who raced it, as did Dad (DTV hired it a couple of times) and after a race Dad did at Thruxton she was sold to Dave Millington, our Aintree favourite.

Cor, this takes me back. Castle Coombe 1967, Frazer Nash race for post-war cars, organised by the Frazer Nash car club that led to the Griffiths Formula and eventually to the HSCC.
I was driving LXH3, the Targa Florio that raced twice at LeMans with Peacock/Ruddock, first as a LeMans Replica, then when cycle wings were banned, was rebodied as a Targa Florio but also with wire wheels and big brakes. In fact I bet it was a new car but keeping the old chassis number and registration to avoid purchase tax.
I bought it in 1966 for £750 and couldn't really afford to run it, so sold it to Robert Mansfield for £1000, thinking I was really clever. I think Robert still has it, 40 years later.
