Dean & Hardman have shared sports cars before, but I don't think Dean & Sugden have.

F3000?
Simon Arron
The Leeds United supporter and Peter Hardman are driving Ginettas at Le Mans this year, while Tim is there in a Ferrari F430. The connection is that Rainford will be there to take pictures of all three with his new camera.

I think that I should get maximum points for the drivers and Le Mans. IMHO question answered in full.
How on earth would anyone on here - except PR and SA - be expected to know that Rainford will be there to take pictures of all three with his new camera.

Indeed it was. Poor Jim Lee could not get that heep to go despite miles and miles of testing.
RF84 was another ugly duckling as was the 55FCrossle. Who ever heard of trying to put a radiator in the middle of a car? Who were they copying?

Stuart "Two Dogs" Dix has got one going quite well in Class D of Club Formula Ford North West.
There are a few shots of his white / fluorescent No.46 car at http://brsccnw.com/brscc250509ff1600.htm
Mind you, he has totally re-engineered it with a lot of Swift influence and his own ideas.

Might be a silly question but is that Dad? I don't think so. in a b&w pic I'd say the looked more like Mike Newman's car than Old Nail plus I can't find trace of it - great period pics though.

Gregor, when I scanned these two I was not sure if they were Gerry, the "colours" look wrong. ambivalent.gif Of course I've passed a lot of water since I took the shots, so I've no way of telling- maybe someone with more remaining brain cells can put us right?
I've got more Marshall shots in the files but I'm suffering from scanner fatigue at the moment, watch this space.

Excellent pics as always Alan.

Whatever happened to James King?
Alan Cox
James King is now a very successful historic racer in the States and also in Europe. He has an ex-Dan Gurney Brabham BT7 which he always brings to Historic Monaco, while he races a March 761 in Historic F1.

I didn't realise that was the same one.

Where did his motor racing career go after F3?
David McKinney
Did his signwriter paint 'March' after a long pub lunch?

Selection appreciated by one who couldn't be there, BTW up.gif

Hey, that's me at the front, with Evan Stone changing ratios.
IIRC Marsh, specialistes en marquage, was James King's company.
Mallory Dan
Looks like the awful Lola T570 practiced well up didn't it. Wasn't Cadwell Ashley's local track, that may explain it? As I recall this was the only time that year that James K was anywhere near the front of that years F3 field.

Largely agree Dan - think he had problems learning the circuits, and getting used to the "rough and tumble" approach of British and European drivers who'd grown up on F.Ford. However, he took pole at Thruxton at the end of the season, and was taken out by Warwick...

As for his subsequent career: James told me last year that he paid a deposit to do the 78 series in the UK, then was given the 782 run once by Patrick Neve in lieu of his contract when March decided not to run a works F3 team. He only got to race the 782 once [at Nurburgring] then sold it to Bob Salisbury, who'd run it for him at the 'Ring.

He went back to racing Atlantics in US, never doing a full season and sometimes running only in SCCA. Late 82 he bought an ex Roberto Moreno Ralt RT4, which had just won Trois Rivieres and was the 83 prototype, won the SCCA finals at Road Atlanta with it, and ran more actively in the pro Atlantic series for about another five years.
SEdward
Great pictures from a fantastic circuit. What a fabulous year that was for F3. So many potential winners in the field.
I also remember thinking that James King's win at Cadwell came out of the blue, as he was a mid-field runner for most of the season, rarely on the pace of South, Daley, Warwick, etc.

Excellent Alan. I think that saloon one is 1972, Gerry is in Thames TV livery, which he had that year, in 1970 he had the Viva GT. Think that's Ray Payne's Imp on the inside? Strawson's Falcon on the inside of Gerry?

Here is one of the gentleman we were discussing earlier this week - Jeremy Lord with the Tech-Del Minilite Astra.

Is that a red Capri just coming into shot at the back? Who would that have been in 1972, Mick Hill is the only I recall at that time?
Gregor Marshall
It could be 1972 or 1973 but looking through the results he won every race he did at Oulton in Old Nail in 72 & 73 so must just be a bad start - if so, then Dad probably blamed the starter for dropping his flag the wrong way or something similar!!
Great pics as ever Alan.

Whenever I rummage through the 1000s of negs/transparencies/prints that I have yet to post*, one G Marshall always seems to turn up - here leading Tony Strawson in August 1972 from the race pictured a few posts earlier.

Here is Mick Hill's Capri from the same meeting.

Great photos as usual Alan, the colour in them is fantastic! You can inflict as many as you want on me, I'll be all eyes clap.gif I have great memories of Gerry's Thames Television Firenza, I used to marshall inside at Druids, and Gerry would always come round blipping the throttle on full opposite whilst hugging the apex, brilliant up.gif

Alan, your period work particularily is absolutely priceless, and whilst your contemporary work is brilliant, your earlier stuff is what I always look out for. The sheer breadth of it is phenomenal, and it all touches a nerve personally with me. Not only does it take me on a wonderful journey down memory lane, your work is an important historical document, so please post as much as you are able to, for our current enjoyment and posterity. You are not quite a photographic genius, but you seem to have a nose to know WHAT to photograph, and that is genius in itself! up.gif

I've already posted this on another thread but this is when John Scott-Davies had the car. Scottie had previously owned another "Fraud" Cortina in blue and gold with a 4.7 litre engine that he and Harry O'Brien campaigned in 1968. Scottie was racing the car pictured here on the Railway Straight at Aintree Tuesday night practice in 1970. At the Spring meeting that year it was listed in the programme as also having a 4.7 litre powerplant, but by the Autumn meeting also at Aintree, it had grown to 7 litres.......
Gregor Marshall
Yeah, keep posting them Alan (especially ones of Dad!!).
If the race was August 1972 then it was the 12th and you'll all be glad to know Dad definitely won!! clap.gif
