Why didn't I think to check the DVLA site confused.gif

I'm trying to figure out first and subsequent owners of a Marcos Fastback which I am restoring, registration number 999 THY. I am not a UK resident and the car was exported from the UK back in 1986. Anyhow, I made an effort through the DVLA but got the answer "this service is only available to residents in the UK" or something similar mad.gif . Anyone who can help or any idea about how to proceed?

What I know is that the car was first registered in 1963 in Bristol. I have been told there was a gentlemen from Bristol called Arnold Denman who raced a Marcos Fastback in British club racing back then. Could have been my car. Anyone who has any records of the racing exploits of Mr Denman (and what he raced)?

It's not on the DVLA registration database. Probably because it's been exported smile.gif

Thanks anyhow for trying to help.

Still, second part of my question remains. Does anyone know anything about Arnold Denman and his racing efforts?

I think these are Kit Cars or Road Going Sports Cars from a 750MC meeting at Cadwell in the 80's.

I've no idea who's driving what smile.gif

Mike Whately was a former chairman of the 750 Motor Club came from Holmfirth in Yorkshire.
Raced a Formula 4 which ended up in a lake at Cadwell having vaulted a barrier. Also the afore mentioned Scimitar SS1.
Had the last time he attended our local rally and huge American Buick car if you like the US version of a Early Rolls Royce.

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the info, I have contacted the 750 Motor Club and they have passed on my details to Mike Whately. It doesn't look as if the Scimitar SS1 was ever put back on the road after the crash, which is a great shame as it was an early Reliant development car ambivalent.gif

Cheers

Tha ts not a problem glad to help .
I was the 750 MC 's race control radio operater for nearly 10 years and a marshall for a long time before that.

The Cadwell picture is Nigel Brown' s Silva leader 400 and i think Ken Culverwell's Lotus 11 no 6 and Michael luck ? in the other Lotus 11 all kits of course not genuine 11 s.

I raced F750 for a couple of years and then did the 750MC FF1600 Championship when it ran in the early 80's. I often used to take photos of the other races at the time.

Our paths may have crossed at one time smile.gif

Is 85 Austin Kinsella on a day when his car looked very clean, or hadn't yet been Ecclestoned?
Charles Jordan in the No.7 Crossle and I've no idea who is driving the big red shovel on the left of shot.
A few laps later and Alan Raine can be seen taking a wide line at Old Hall.

I'm guessing at Simon Olley in No.23
And is No.87 The bloke from North Lancashire that got Crossle to build him a brand spanking new 32F? I bet that wasn't cheap.

I think he ended up wedged 6ft up in the trees at Cadwell after going over the barrier. The incident was the subject of one of Catchpole's cartoons in Autosport.

I was in that race, and can clearly remember coming round Barn corner to find Mikes then-wife Lynda running up the track towards Barn. My wife said she saw the March flying through the air several feet off the ground before disappearing into the trees - one of those moments where you can't quite believe what you've seen.

I was marshaling at Hall bends one day when in an F2000 race an American whos name i forget as it was a northern championship race if i remember correct. His Reynard' s suspension collapsed and with zero ground clearence it slide literally down the little muddy track infield and into the hedge.

The tow truck arrived as we had slide the car back onto tarmac , the driver was just a lttle shaken, it was one of those trucks with the spectacle lift.

They attached the rope to the roll bar and got the wheels in the spectacle bit lifted and said car slide straight off . Three times the same result, till they sent for the Hiab to remove it .

Oh i forgot to add it was raining.lol

I may have to start a marshaling tales thread. wave.gif

There are many tales from Cadwell Park. For example: They used to open the barn doors, so that if anybody went off they could go straight through and out the other side. One driver was said to have reappeared on foot and white as a sheet muttering "they could have moved the bloody tractors out of the way" eek.gif
petestenning
Yes i have witnessed that with the doors open when Karl Jones in a prodution saloon Fiat Abarth 130TC somehow failed to slow or take barn corner and hit the wall of the barn at speed. What happened next was at the time unbelievable as i watch it hit the wall and the front of the car litterally climbed vertical up the wall , then landed back down all the inertia could not go forward so it went up .

And what was even more amazing was it was driven away after the race, ok all 4 wheels were les than round now as it lurched and crabbing lol.

Pete,

Just think that if all you marshals spent less time faffing about saving peoples lives, waving flags and clearing up debris, you could have had some very nice and exciting photos to show us. lol.gif

Yes it was a pity that we could not carry cameras or we could have had some really good action shots for Autosport lol....

A mini trying a novel direction at druids.

A westfield? trying to emulate the previous Reliant Scimitar route.

I have only ever seen those fearsome Porsche 935K3 s twice, Le Mans and a Brands WSC round, i was a marshal on the exit of Westfield and the shear exceleration of the 935 was awesome , just a whoosh and it was gone .
The Lancia Monte Carlos were there as well and they were equally awesome , but not quite in such a brutal way.

That's the problem. I marshalled most weekends from 1973 until 1979, so most of my photos were confined to the paddock.

I believe this is a road saloon race or practice , With an Escort mk2, Renault 8 ?, and what looks like a Capri, plus of course my usual speaker pole , seems Brands had a lot of them back then.

Marcos GT looks like Radial Ltd on the nose so that would be Richard Gamble , VW Golt GTI dont know who , and a Mazda RX 7 ?

Geoff Thomas in the Golf, I believe.

Yes Simon, you are right it came to me last night i have a closer pic of it and it suddenly came to me .

I still wonder what sort of race this was as there are Modifed Sports, Mod Saloons and some standard looking saloons like the Capri.
Normally i can remember most of what i have seen. Looks more like a Winter Series type of free for all , but did think that only took place at Brands.
