Hi i was just wondering what formula E was, is it for old formula ford 1600 cars confused.gif

Some great images on this thread by the way smile.gif
Séamas M.
Formula E was conceived in the mid 80s, as the ultimate clubmans Formula Ford. The rules were really simple, any legal FF1600 of any age provided the springs and dampers were outboard and only single adjustable dampers were allowed. Effectively this meant most cars pre 1980, although it was feasible to take a newer car and modify it to outboard or build a completely new car, as was done with the Lanan. It ran until the early 90s, most ably administered by Ian Smith. Over to you Diz! wave.gif

It was Woodcote Silverstone in the 70's The driver in the picture i think is Martin Richardson whose car is upside down out of shot to the right . it was a Datsun 120 . The yellow flag marshal caught mid flight is my late father , i am the other flaggie surveying the upturned car.

The roof of the passing car is i beleive Jhn Popes Aston engined Firenza/Magnum ?

Well said Séamas.

It was a slightly Northern Championship with a bit of Northern Ireland added to the mix. Happy times smile.gif

Shame on you Alan. OK so it started out Northern based, but did venture to Brands and Kirkistown in its debut season and regularly thereafter.
From then on, it went everywhere, Brands, Snetterton, Thruxton, Pembrey, Castle Combe, Silverstone, Mallory, Donington,
Oulton [obviously], Cadwell, Ingliston and Knockhill to name but a few venues.

And it would have been 25 years old in 2010. Grounds for a Revival Race methinks.

Here's a fine way to spend New Year's Day (even when it is about minus two)...

Not sure Wimbledon Stadium has quite the same fried-onion allure as Manchester's old White City, but it comes close. And, yes, they still play Lieutenant Pigeon's Mouldy Old Dough while the bangers complete their parade lap.

You should worry The Heavy Metal Classic at Standlake got down to nearly -10 this time last year and there is nowhere to
shelter.Still got around 200 competitors and the place was packed with spectators even though it is a small track.

Wimbledon is now a rather sad and mouldering place the speedway track has gone, the dogs appear to be struggling and
the unlimited bangers no longer go there because of the LEZ which means it is £100 a day to take most Hiab equipped vehicles in.

How could you prefer White City to the Vue no zoo,no funfair and above all no shale?

A Davrian at Mallory i suspect a Northern GT car .

Unknown E type at Snetterton must be from a 750 Motor club meeting .

Ginetta G15 at Snetterton i think it may be Roger Bowden's ?

Ah, the BMW County Challenge...

Can anybody spot a potential shunt developing here?

Yes - The flag marshal with the hooded anorak with a fire extinguisher by his right leg!

I'm pretty sure it's me folks clap.gif

Great thread - and I'm only about 1/4 way through

Pete, I think the G15 is Richard Holmes. Roger Bowden's was a slightly darker shade of green.

The E type still bothers me i know its not Chris Shipton wrong colour, there was a guy who sprinted an ex Warren Pearce E type but that was blue.

That reminds me of a FFord race at Donington in the late 70's when I was a marshal.

The drivers comments as we pulled him out of the sand trap after a wheel fell off the back of his car.

"Yo, someones lost a wheel - bugger, it's me"

Has it lost its shape/shrunk in the wash?

From a VSCC meeting at Oulton some time in the early 80's (I think! - the pack of photos has no date on it - but it's the era of the Donington GT championship from the others in the pack)

Taking the "wide line" at the new Fosters corner in 1975.

Simon Arron
I have located more of my "missing" photos but fear some of the others might have been cast aside with time's passage. Here's a small selection...

Warrington locksmith Martin Richardson (MGB) leads Peter Blackbourn (B V8) at a packed Mallory Park, August 30 1981.

The joys of ASCAR - just like NASCAR, but with seven cars on the grid rather than 43... Ricky Fagan (above) and Jim Mensley at Mallory.

Not particularly sharp, but worthy of inclusion just because it's the mighty Ethel... I'm not sure whose turn it was to drive her this weekend, but suspect this is Bill Hewitt.

Richard Williamson (RS2000) wasn't surprised to see an out-of-session single-seater in hs mirrors, but was astounded that any Formula Talbot cars had actually turned up. I think the Sparton is being driven by Johnny Hayes-Harlow, but stand to be corrected.

Bizarrely, I also found this among my motor racing shots - Slade in their prime. Not one of mine, but I presume my dad took it for one of the nationals.

Was your Dad the bloke who elbowed me, hard, from the left? Back then I was doing work, if you can call it that, for Sounds magazine. btw, we had pre-booked them and later went off in a Transit van to Bradford Road gas works for some arty-farty shots. Noddy seems to be alive and well in Prestbury, just down the strada from chez-nous, as they say in Reykjavik.

That is why rally cars and drivers seldom go well in circuit racing. If that Mini had taken him out he would be in a fence somewhere!
sterling49
But Lee, the Mini was behind??? I am not saying he was the fastest, best or winningest racing driver, just great to watch.
