I must admit it's not a line I would choose to take at Old Hall.
And you've taken a lot of different ones to choose from. No two the same! roflmao.gif

Experiment: "An experiment is any procedure that can be infinitely repeated and has a well defined set of outcomes..."

Random: "If something happens at random, it happens without a definite plan or pattern"

Did you use the correct word there Alan?

As soon as I posted that, I knew I was in trouble. Perhaps I should have said experimental (If that makes any difference?)

It was never random, just sometimes not as fast as I would of liked smile.gif

Richard Williamson (RS2000) wasn't surprised to see an out-of-session single-seater in hs mirrors, but was astounded that any Formula Talbot cars had actually turned up. I think the Sparton is being driven by Johnny Hayes-Harlow, but stand to be corrected.

I've got a similar pic from a qualifying session at Kirkistown, where Roger Eccleston (I think) was sent out in his FF1600 with the special saloons as he had been off in a boggy, wet cow field the day before and missed official practice... Seem to recall he dried the thing out by removing all the bodywork and sans helmet, with fag in mouth, doing half a dozen full speed laps clap.gif

I'll see if I can find it.

I think he did at the end of friday free practice. He came past me down the long straight...smiling smile.gif

Kirkistown was good for oddball practice sessions.

But Lee, the Mini was behind??? I am not saying he was the fastest, best or winningest racing driver, just great to watch.

But he is turning in across the line of the mini, who is then going off track to advoid hitting him. If the mini had held his line the escort would be bouncing off the Armco on the opposite side of the track!

I think it could be a series 4, the last Lotus 7 built from 1971 - 1974, but I've never seen one without a spare wheel, so I cant say if that triangular protrusion is genuine, then there's the cycle wings at the front, I thought series 4s all had clamshells confused.gif I'm sure one of the Lotus afficionados on here will be along soon to shoot me down ;)

Looks like Esso with a step-ladder to me. The one place at Oulton where you could guarantee not to be hit. I've been in secret training all Winter just to get back there, don't tell me it's now off limits. ambivalent.gif

If the jobsworths want to know where the most frightening place to stand is, here is a clue:

In 35 years of snapping at Oulton, I have never had anyone else on my shoulder at this spot. wink.gif

I am 99.99% certain that it is a Series 4 Lotus 7, however from the photo it does appear to have an earlier nose fitted rather that the original slab-like version plus as Paul points out it does have the cycle wings rather than standard clamshells.

Seamus Mullholland?? The Irish lads weren't on the photo, as it was the cross Irish Sea mob that were being snapped
I was thinking it was Steve Patton from Crossle sneaking onto the photo, not Seamus.

Until you said David Naylor, I thought it was Mike Newton

I have a vague memory that he did as F1300 was a little weak in those days.

I was trundling around the circuits in my F750 at the time, but it was always a pleasure to look at the Messer in the Paddock. Always nicely prepared with that lovely metallic green paint job.

Spooky or what!!! I was looking at this when a spam email popped up from a David Mullholland trying to sell me websites...

Re Steve Patton. I thought it was one of the Irish guys in the background but couldn't tell who.

I don't think Mike Newton ever went to Kirkistown with Formula E.

Here's a question. Who achieved more after Formula E. Richard Peacock raced the Tyrrell in Historics. Gavin Wills went on to run Swift, Mike Newton won his class at Le Mans etc. etc

Keith designed & built a new body for a Lola S2000 which he ran in the same F1300 series. The car was sold to Fidoe/Turner who hillclimbed it very successfully.

Whilst packing for my pending house move (to about 200 yards from Oulton Park....) I came across this photo, which I took at Old Hall Corner at around the beginning of the 1990s. I remember the incident very clearly as I had to duck to avoid being hit by a rear corner which made its way into, and beyond, the spectator area!.

For some reason I've always had it in my mind that the pilot was Perry McCarthy, but now I think that's probably not correct.

Any ideas? Any other witnesses?
