...I had always "assumed" that the 14B campaigned by Morton was the Ex Ken Silverstone DL14B which did a few F3 rounds a year or so earlier.

It was indeed, based on a FF2000 DL14.

Memories of Nick Whiting's 'All Car Equipe' Escorts, and, in particular, the 'ShellSport' stars which were awarded to race winners who used Shell products during the mid-1970s. Here is a pic of Nick's car taken in 1976 when the roof was well on its way to being totally covered with the stickers.

Do you recall other drivers who had large collections of them? Kenny Acheson is one who springs to mind, and Peter Baldwin. How many seasons did they continue for?

I watched Nick, week in and week out at Brands, there was a time that he won just about everything in sight ! The ACE Escorts, always immaculately prepared.

"It'll all end in tears..."

"Two wheels on my wagon, and I ain't rollin' nowhere" - Stuart Kestenbaum came away the loser in this encounter with young Emily Newman. Mallory 10th May 1987

PS Is a young Mallory Dan propping up the fence in the back of the shot??

Wow.... that really IS a kerb, isn't it?

You couldnt do that in Australia at that time, no sign writing of any form was allowed above the windowline , including the drivers name.

A March 743 in 1975.

I think this is the car now owned and raced extremely quickly by Simon Hadfield.

This car was a subject of interest at last weeks NW TNF get together. To do with air restrictors which came with the car etc.
ExFlagMan
An intact ex Keegan car - must be a real rarity.

As one well known Oulton Park observer once remarked 'If all the cars Keegan has raced where placed end to - they would probably just about reach from one side of Lodge to the other'
Alan Cox
Some more great Formula Ford action, this time from 1982, Oulton Park 8th May, P & O Ferries championship
How many can you recognise in this first-lap shot?

For starters, here are David Hunt, Bjørn, Langrekken and the 7th Marquess of Bute.

Could one have much closer racing than this? Gianfranco Cane and Mauricio Gugelmin

Just Opel GT's?

Got photos?

750 Motor Club meeting on the 1st May, when some kart races were included in the programme - I have to say that karts looked a bit lost on the wide expanse of Oulton.

Steve Rawson (CTRP) leads Giles Butterfield (Zip)

Rob Kerkhoven (Zip) - Did the 'E' signify that he was European champion?

Reg Gange leads Nigel Smith (both Zips)

From the Jaguar Drivers' Club meeting 24th April: Oulton favourite Jon Fletcher

Mike Ridley (Morgan +4)

Excellent set Alan. Wasn't the outright lap record held by someone in a kart for quite a while; or did I dream that?
Alan Cox
Thanks, Pete. I hope you appreciated Jon Fletcher smile.gif Don't recall anything about a kart holding the lap record.
Working through '82, Good Friday meeting...

Gordon Spice (Capri) dicing with Jeff Allam (Rover) in the BTCC round. Spice won from Rad Dougall's Rover.

Arnold Glass explains to Colin Bennett how he disposed of leader Jim Crawford from the British F1 race.

John Fletcher or Jon Fletcher, or were they different people? My memory's growing dim...

Jon B. Fletcher and possibly the winningest Lotus ever.

Indeed, I used to do terrific business with Mark's dad when I worked for Guinness 30 years ago. The Peters owned the"Slush Puppie" brand of iced slush drink in the UK and we had a couple of hundred of their machines. It was a license to print money at the time with outrageous margins, but like most fads it faded. I remember visiting their palacial family home in Marlow in the day . Mark was quite a talented young driver at that time. smoking.gif

No no. 60 in the programme, alas. Didn't Button drive a Reynard in '82?

I think it probably is Button: he was racing a PRS and lay fourth in the P&O standings going into the Oulton meeting, behind Gianfranco Cane, David Hunt and David Wheeler. Not that there had been too many races...

The Ray driver with the Simpson lid is possibly the late Paul Gerrish?

Merzera is driving a Van Diemen RF87 in this shot. He's the man who escaped from Czecho in the boot of a car to further his racing career as the story went.

Yes, that's right. Car number #1. It is difficult to find results for him in 1982. To the extent that I thought he may have had a 'missing' season?

Oulton Park September 75- the "Supersaloons" race meeting.

Thiago Assis in his Dulon MP15C. The location of that airbox always made it look as though the driver had his arm forever raised to signal his intention to enter the pits.

I think I was probably standing on the rotten grandstand planks a few yards to your right, Pete.

I did not like to post his name, in case it was an anagram of something very rude. wink.gif

I wish that Shell sign had been there for the last ten years; then we would not have had to photoshop out that damned yellow FIAT Cinquicento belonging to the Lodge inhabitants, at least they have changed it for a more subtle hue this past couple of seasons.

I missed this.

What happen to David Button? He was quite quick bearing in mind that PRS wasn't the quickest car around. I went down to PRS to pick up some parts after an accident in my RH01 and Button was there...making the tea!!

Freddy Skoghag had another 82 PRS, I think run by Richard Owen. I knew his mechanic, who was kept extremely busy replacing the broken parts after every race eek.gif
Gatmo
I'm "friends" with Fredrik on Facebook, he had a good look around my Heroes of FF1600 page and borrowed a couple of pictures of himself in action. He was at Silverstone for the Britcar 24hrs at the weekend, that's if my Swedish translation of his status is correct....

He was a proper "press on" type of pedaller eek.gif

18th October 1980 - Vandervell F3 round Oulton Park

Thierry Tassin - Anglia Cars Argo JM6

The start - Kenny Acheson leads from Mike White and Stefan Johansson

Johansson - Project Four Ralt RT3 - 1st place

Acheson - RMC March 803B - 2nd place

John Lewis worked at Chevron Cars and took time out to build his own F3 Chevrons. This is his second car, (or is it his third?)
the immaculate but unsuccessful B47B, leading Bengt Trägårdh's Meltonian March 803. Was this a development of the B43/47 which he raced in '79?
Mallory Dan
Was 1980 the last year of good F3 ever?? By which I mean various chassis took part, and won.

From 81 onwards it became pretty much 1-make chassis winners right up to the present day. I accept there were a few years in the mid-80s when Ralt and Reynard competed equally, but in 80, there were March, Argo and Ralt, and until the end of the year all were quite equal. I guess the Lewis B47B was an update of the car he built and raced the year before Alan, but with his Bolton connections, who knew what it was? He had a good F2 ride didn't he a few weeks after this...
RTH
Anyone remember the Cygnus which became the Roni?
grd
Seeing these f3 shots made me think. I've just bought the 82 RT3 of Tommy Byrne which I intend to race next year. It would be great to see any shots of it in period.

I think Tommy began the year with an '81 chassis, with his '82 car appearing some time in April/May (?). Didn't he use both cars through the year? I have spome photos from the April Mallory round, but I think he would have been in the '81 car then.
Gatmo
Ian Flux drove the Cygnus/Roni didn't he?

Yes, he started the year with the old Raul Boesel chassis 224, moved to a new 82 chassis 282 for the middle of the season and then went back to 224 that had been rebuilt on a new tub for the Brands meeting in July. (this info is curtesy of Oldracingcars.com)

Could you help the person behind the F3 data on ORC a bit with back history?
I lose track of 282 in Scandinavia in 1985
Where did you get it?
