1982 Oulton Park and Ayrton da Silva, as the name he was still being entered under, although by then the signwriting on the car read 'Ayrton Senna'

I hazard a guess that's later in the season. The EFDA badge has been added to his overalls and car.

I was at Zolder for the Euro FF2000 round that year and the Senna myth was already in full swing. I think it was just after the Snetterton race where he'd lost the rear brakes but still won. Everybody knew this guy was special and the feeling was that he was going to be hard to beat. Ironically the car broke down early on and Senna didn't finish.

Thanks up.gif

Probably close to the spot where I helped Mark Blundell over the tyres after he crashed his FF2000 Reynard ..........only to find out he was not in the best of moods roflmao.gif

Wandering if this one belongs in the lady drivers thread ? Does any one know who the driver might have been, photo was taken late in the season at Brands not entirely sure of the year but the photo was in the same batch as a photo of Mike Smith in his prod saloon Mobil Sierra RS Cosworth.

Relevant answers maybe used and credited in a forthcoming blog, thanking you in anticipation of your responses.

Probably 1987 if Mike was in the Mobil Cosworth

Definetly does not belong on the Lady Driver thread then smoking.gif Thanks Alan :-)

In 1987 the no 23 Fiesta was driven by Norman Grimshaw. No 22 was driven by Angela Grimshaw. Both entered by Goodliff Racing. (from a mid-season Brands Hatch programme).

I have no idea whether that picture tallies with this info, though.

Edited to add - the Autosport review os the '87 season has a picture of the 23 car at a driver-change - the door is open and the body on the side is clearly visible. Front plate says "Norman". At an Oulton 2-driver round Grimshaw shared with Barrie Williams.

You are definitely slipping Alan.
Surely this was an ideal opportunity to post your similarly arty paint job on the trusty PRS

There was a reply to my infamous paint job on here somewhere which I'm sure showed good old Whizzo in said Fiesta at the Mallory hairpin, hence my earlier post.

The trusty old PRS may still be rebuilt and I'm really tempted to do the cutaway idea again but I don't think somehow I'll go the stockings and suspenders route eek.gif
Alan Cox
I have a photo of Whizzo in a Fiesta with a driver figure painted on the door, but I'm sure it was wearing race overalls, not the lingerie option. He may, of course, have driven other cars during the season.

"Three wheels on my Midget, and I ain't rolling along..."

"After you, Claude. No, after you, Cecil." Andrew Raybould has a dispute with Tim Sugden (edit) over the correct line at the hairpin. Is Mallory Dan leaning on the fence?

Mike Jordan (Lola T644E) and Paul Morton (Royale RP33M). The nose of Roger Ecclestone's Reynard is just inching into shot - Take cover!

John Brindley (March 721)

Mark Rogers (Arrows A1B) What would organisers give to have a field like that entered for a club championship these days?

Great stuff Alan. What a pity H & S dictates that some of this and other similar positions are now a camera free zone frown.gif

Sorry, Tim. For some inexplicable reason I don't seem to have. Can't imagine why as it was a super-looking car and, indeed, featured on the cover of the programme, did it not? Sadly, I wasn't at the earlier Mallory meeting where I think you won. Phil Rainford may possibly be able to help as I'm sure he was there, too.

I bet we thought 50p for a Programme was expensive in 1986.

It was £5 at last weekends Oulton Park British GT/F3 shindig ohwell.gif

Based on the retail price index, 50p in 1986 is still only worth £1.14, or £1.56 based on average earnings.

The green Reynard tripping over Andrew Raybould is, i'm pretty sure, being piloted by Tim Sugden in this shot. The car was originally driven by Richard Dean for Jim Lee Racing.

Thanks for that, Wayne. I'm sure you are correct.

Phil, yes you have posted that oversteering pic before! But I like to remember the noise of the GA on full song so always good to see the pics! And it may not be too long before it's making that glorious noise again.....

Recently mentioned on the Mallory Park testing thread, Bolton's Rob Moores, MD of Halbro Sportswear, only the second owner of the ex-Daly Chevron B38 snapped in 1990 at Oulton Park. He still has the car and has entered it for next month's Monaco Historics F3 race.

Quite probably, David. However, 'Personal Photos from the Track' tends to encompass major international categories so I have posted them here before, as I reckon they are quite a few rungs below F1/F2/World Sports Cars etc. in the motor racing pecking order.

Gosh an SDI beating an RS Cosworth Sierra how many times did that happen ?

The young lady pictured above is Sharon Mitton, no doubt she spiced up many a qualifying session at BRSCC meetings as i'm presuming everyone wanted to qualify on the front row. smile.gif

Quite a few times in the early part of the 1987 season- Andy Rouse wasn't running a full season because of his WTCC commitments, so the only regular full-specification Cosworths were Graham Goode and Pete Hall. Both Tim Harvey (3 wins) and Dennis Leech (1 win) beat the Sierras in the early rounds of the championship.

Once the Sierras were uprated to RS500 specification mid-year (plus the arrival of Frank Sytner's BMW M3) it was pretty much game over for the older cars, other than an unexpected win for Mike Newman's BMW 635CSi in the late-season Oulton 1 hour/2-driver race, achieved through a combination of the Sierras having problems and an inspired tyre choice by Mike, who IIRC started on slicks for a race on a wet, but drying track.

The eventual win tally: Rouse (Sierra) 3; Harvey (Rover) 3; and Dennis Leech (Rover), Win Percy (guesting in the Rouse Sierra at the British GP meeting), Mike O'Brien (Holden), Frank Sytner (M3), Mike Newman (635CSi) and Pete Hall (Sierra) all 1 each.

They're great pics by Alan- brings back memories of proper rwd touring cars (well apart from the Escort Turbo!) and oversteer...
Alan Cox
Thanks for that concise round-up of the 1987 season, Kevan. I am pleased that the photos are striking a chord with you. I think I have some pics from the 2-driver round at Oulton in August. I will sort out a few to post.

Being chased by Peter Morgan in the Lola T580, I think. Very good in FF, but didn't have enough money to really make it work in FF2000.
