He campaigned his E-type in the AMOC Intermarque series for years didn't he Alan? IIRC it was usually in a beige & brown livery.

I remember the car from my marshaling days but didn't realise he was the driver. I was much more into single seaters then, although the AMOC meetings were always a "must marshal at event"

It could be my memory. I also did the advertising for Aintree Racing Drivers' School when Malcolm Barfoot and John Hammersley ran it at 3 Sisters. When they brought the Forte Corse F1 car, they also picked up an F3 car. I'm sure Malcolm said it came from Will Pringle.
Diz may know.
Somewhere I have a picture of Will at Brands, he'd been off but then got clobbered by Bertrand Fabi at Paddock whilst being lapped.
I'll see if I can dig it out.

I think I posted this in the "paddock" thread several moons ago, but it is topical in the current context. Note how "ugly bloke on the right", here modelling an Elf Team Tyrrell jacket, also had the ability to pop up on Aintree snaps of Stuart Lawson's Hawke DL17 more than 30 years ago...
Here is a rare, Rainford-free shot. David Moore's Modsports Corvette, a couple of Mk1 Capris, a Cortina Mk3 and other odds and sods lurk in a spectacularly overcast Aintree paddock on September 10 1977.

Is that the same Dave Moore who used to race E types from the Mayfield Garage in Aigburth, south Liverpool?
I don't recall him ever having a Corvette but then my memory isn't perfect..................
Was it a one off drive, I wonder?
I know one of his sons occasionally looks on these pages and perhaps he could clarify?

I well recall the Phillips Corvette, but here is a documentary clue pertaining to the day in question...
Reliability appears to have been in short supply in Class D. Mayfield Garage of Aigburth had a full-page advertisement on page 7 of the same programme, incidentally.
I note that Bernard Hunter won the FF1600 race in his Van Diemen RF77. Richard Peacock was second in the Dinorben Royale RP21 and Martin Wood took a giant-killing third in his Sounds Exciting with Castle Holidays Lotus 61M...

Here we go again. Another coincidence on this thread has tempted me to post. Recently took my ARDS test and who should be beside me while doing the driving side.............. Stuart Lawson. Still handy behind the wheel and another oldie from Scotland that might be tempted back on track. I really should stop "lurking" on the Atlas but there are too many interesting tales on here.

Jon B. Fletcher's Elan must be a contender for the 'winningest' Lotus ever I'd have thought.
John 'Plastic' Pearson's lap record equalling consistency must be applauded too!
Ian Smith - Diz
May 3 2008, 14:37
Fletch & Plastic + last corner + last lap = side by side at 45 degrees to the straight ahead and finishing line.
Both aimed straight at the chap with the chequered flag. Chap with chequered flag was pooping himself - I know, because I was he.
I've forgotten the date, but it was in the 70s'. Both drivers had massive smiles on their faces, they thought it was hilarious.
I haven't come across Plastic for many a year, but I bump into Fletch occasionally at places like the Gold Cup, or the BRDC Suite. He takes great delight in introducing me to whoever is nearby as "This is the young fella who used to b ollock me at Aintree"

There appears to be a Pacer chassis on one of the above shots, originally they were very quick in the hands of Howard Groos but iirc they seemed to attract the scrutineers attention for some reason?...............
There was one on eBay for sale last week, chassis, wheels and bodywork [the original yellow and black by the looks of it] plus a box of uprights and other gubbins for an opening bid of £1250.
It didn't sell.
I seem to remember Martin Ochiltree of Coventry Stadium fame racing one too?

But as usual Gerry would have been very quick in it , i also remember him in the Marsh Plant Lola T70 MK3B , you just have to imagine Gerry in the car in period would have been magic.

I think they only built 7 or 8 of the T222. If my records are right it was either 16/17th July on the GP circuit (2nd in class, 4th overall) or 26th September on the Indy circuit (1st overall) and I have the programme for this at home so I will check and see if the Lotus 47 driver details are in the latter event.
Preparer Richard Asquith with beard, "racer" and friend Brian "Slim" Atthews with glasses.
The T70 was fantastic and Rich Harman (drivers71) posted a fantastic picture from Silverstone from 1981 in one of the other personal photo threads. Slightly OT; he did compete in a period World Sportscar, a Brabahm BT8 in the 1000kms at Spa in 1970 with the battle of the 917s of Siffert/Redman and Rodriguez/Kinnuen but retired after 3 or 4 laps, not sure if he or Keith Grant started the race.
