Forgive the non-technical nature of my query, but an earlier post by McGuire got me wondering.. I'm surprised this hasn't come up before, you know, with this being a forum full of gearheads and all... Basically what cars (vehicles?) do you guys own? Daily drivers, restoration projects, rusty lawnpieces, its all good!

I'm testing the long term durability of a Toyota Corona wagon (1984). Yesterday one of the window lifters failed so I've had to tape the glass in. I noticed the AC needs regassing as well, not bad for 21 years. Last year I had to replace the thermostat housing. $20

At work I mostly drive our SUV which has 'my' front and rear suspension.

$700 '81 BMW 528i with "spooky" front end.
$1000 '91 VW Passat 2l 16V wagon with stunning amounts of foam filler and bondo behind the freshly applied rock guard (note to self - be more aggressive when investigating used cars)
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Quad Cab Sport (Ha! The only Sport is seeing how much fuel we can use).
Numerous half-built motorcycle engines destined for equally finished motorcycles.

BMW handles the best even with it's spooky front end, and has the nicest ride. VW is the quickest by far. The Dodge...well, it's the most expensive...

Drive a FWD 1989 Suzuki 800 (only available in the Indian sub-continent).

Well it isnt great to drive, going past 115kmph is near impossible @36bhp.

But well Ive had a couple of scary moments...

Oh well...at the end of the day it gives me 15km/lt (35.2 miles/gallon). :)

I don't appear here very often, but ...

daily hack; 1993 Camry V6 with all the electronic bells and whistles
fun car: 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow

For the full and ludicrous list of my wheels over the years, with pics, see

http://www.terrywalk...s/Carsowned.htm

It's a little out of date: the Camry has just replaced the 1990 Ford Falcon.

Current daily driver is a 'ski bum special' Honda Civic 4WD Wagon. I honestly didn't even know it was 16V until the timing belt broke due to a water pump bearing going TU and having to replace the intake valves. Good car nevertheless.

Any more I'm essentially disinterested in a what a car can do until it has 150,000mi on it. I'm listening then.

Got heaps of cars.
1984 Toyota AE-86 Corolla, with a Toyota Altezza two litre twin cam & 5-speed automatic gearbox, tiptronic style.
1983 Toyota Starlet, project car getting a ~240hp 9500rpm 1600cc twin cam.
1998 WRX, with a kit to take it to STi power levels.
Fraser Clubman, a Super Se7en clone also with an Altezza twin cam of about 220hp.
Sports 1300 racing car. Suzuki Swift Gti 1300cc twin cam powered. Got wings & rudimentary ground effects, etc.
Mallock Mk31, also not finished. Nissan SR16 powered, Hewland Mk9 gearbox.
1981 Corolla rally car. Yet another project toy, getting a Suzuki 2.7 litre V6 of about 340hp, Ford Sierra 4WD gearbox, etc.
Can-Am replica, yet another project unfinished. Toyota V-8 powered, Porsche gearbox.

More on them here.

Daily driver is a BMW 528i wagon w/100K miles, going for 150K minimum. Fully loaded with luggage and golf clubs, cruising at 80 mph with the AC blasting yields 29.6 mpg. The best car I've ever owned.

Wife's rides are a Jaguar S-Type and a VW Bug ragtop. Don't ask why; she just "had to have them."

My favorite transport is my Yamaha Vino scooter. 49cc of ground-pounding thunder. :)

I don't drive anything at the moment. In fact, I haven't driven a car since September!

But back home I have my ongoing project waiting under covers. A datsun 1600. I have a page on the engine mods: http://zac510.ozdat.com/ . It is not to the level of engineering and vehicle dynamics that we talk about in this forum but it was a unique path to take and I learnt a lot by experimenting.

I can't actually drive, as I can't afford a car yet so there's no point in learning really (I'm still a poor student you see).
Needless to say, it really confuses a lot of people that I can like motosport so much and yet not drive. I think in a way it works in reverse - I end up waiting till I can afford something that's not chronically embarassing before I get a car.

Most of my cars were chronically embarrassing...specially the 1935 Hillman with a max of 45 miles per hour.

Hey Terry, I used to own a R10 too That is quite a feat to drive it across the Nullabor. I suppose with so little corners you didn't give it many opportunities to swap ends on you :)

Quite a diverse collection of cars you have had.

I liked saabs since I was a child in Brazil. There were no saabs there, but I found an article about them in a magazine in 1966 ( Popular Mechanic , which I still have ), and I became a fan of the swedish brand. Now I live in Spain and I own a SAAB 93 . It is like a child's dream that came true. I am very pleased with it.

Until a month ago a humble but very reliable 1987 Nissan Sunny 1.7 Diesel. At present a 1998 Xantia 1.9 TDI Break (Estate). Wanted to try a Citroen eversince I saw the "Phanthomas" movie when I was a boy.
As you can see, I am Diesel fan and still a fan of Japanese cars, although those built outside Japan are not quite of the same quality and reliability.

As i'm a student I own a Vauxhall Astra 1.7D!! It gets me from A-B with much noise and smoke, but it has done 170K+.

I want to buy a triumph dolly when I can afford and do a engine transplant etc. Have always wanted to build my own race car. Maybe one day.

03 Chevy Metro 3 cylinder with air and auto. Hockey pucks for wheels and 40mpg. Ital Design. White. Acceleration:s frightening, much worse than anything that John Force experiences. He doesn't have to worry about being run over. A calender is used for 1/4 mile timing.

The daily beater and one of my favorite road cars ever. Cadillac Touring Coupe, the real one with 300+ hp, not the later version detuned to correct the torque steer. Not a sports car by any means but fast as hell in a straight line, I know it will go 142 mph and it would easily do 120 mph from NY to LA just loafing. 25 MPG highway. Stock except for the American Racing wheels, tires and shocks, prom calibration. The paint is a GM factory custom color called Tripoli, kinda rare. Not a flipflop metallic, just real subtle...no way to say if it is green or blue. Buff leather interior, killer Bose CD. Now has 130K miles on it and these days spends half its life in the airport parking garage. Sad really. Just realized I never took a photo, shame on me. Camera phone pic taken today:

Here is another favorite piece of iron...56 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan. Got in 1986, I built it as my homage to the liquor haulers of Back In The Day. Holman Moody-type front snout, suspension and brakes, 9" Ford rear, 383 CID SB Chevy, 498 bhp. Nothing very trick like NTOS builds, just simple and sanitary. Beautiful balance and weight distribution, funnest car on dirt (or snow) I have ever driven.

My very first (and only car) is a red hot '03 Holden commodore SS. LS1 powered and thinking of adding a twin turbo set up for it. Good for around 400Kw if i do the $10k mod. - still deciding if i want to do that or upgrade to the new VE when its released at the end of the year.

It was my treat to myself after years of university and i absolutly love it. I was in the same boat as Andy, i didnt get my licence until very late because of time constraints with studying away from home.

Just bought a 2006 Evolution MR, and for the rest of the world it is an EVO 9. I am just getting used to it but what a lovely performance machine. It has been a BIG step up from my Focus. As others I finally rewarded myself for hard work done.

Is a bit disconcerting, particularly for someone on the FoMoCo side of the gulf heh. My grandfather was the largest Ford dealer in Central California at one time so I tend to be a bit of a partisan. That said, there's hardly a car in the world that can't be improved with a good ol' SBC.

Nice chimera nevertheless :D

You're right ...

But you REALLY don't want pics of all 20 or 30 cars I've owned. You might like this shot of one of my all time favourite cars, taken about 1978 or thereabouts. The roadside sign, by the way, is no joke.

currently nothing. later this week i will take ownership of a 1990 ST185 Toyota Celica GT4. cars i have that can't be driven:

- 1969 KE10 Toyota Corolla, 2-door sedan, white - restoration project
- 1969 KE11 Toyota Corolla, 2-door sedan, blue - no idea what to do with it
- 1974 KE26 Toyota Corolla, 5-door wagon, white - preparing for hillclimbs. obscenely practical car also
- 1982 volvo 245 - getting rid of it
- 1996 Holden Apollo (badge-engineered Toyota Camry) - getting rid of it

In the past I've also had '75 and '76 KE30 4-door sedan Corollas, an '86 AE82 5-door liftback Corolla, and an '01 AE112 5-door liftback Corolla... The KE10/KE11 are the most attractive IMHO though they do have their serious flaws (non-collapsing steering column!)
