Pat Symonds

Always honest, never negative tones. Very open in technical terms. The back bone of the Renault team at least in public. Seen as the engine behind in organisational terms the best team in the paddock. The transcript of his press conference today was also nice.
What do you think?

More background would be good.
Only negative thing is that he smokes ciggies.

But its nice to hear frank and open information from symonds. The way ferrari and mclaren shield just about every story about an improved nut is not bringing any excitement for me. i also think flav is a factor in the openness of his team. At every test day you see quotes from drivers and team whereas ferrari and mclaren suffice with a single, nothing saying line.
For me, the innovations and reports about it will always stay an important factor to keep following f1.
Shame we dont have the special qualify engines anymore.

I would say long over due respect for him but I guess people already felt that way about him and only expressed it for the first time here.

Did this thread only get created as Renault have had their first decent friday practice since 2006?

She used to work at Benetton (Formula Ltd). Very nice.
I don't think it's very respectful to be posting pictures of her as she isn't public property!

Absolutely, Pat is one of the most genuine characters in the sport with a great passion for what he does. He is very successful but still seems down to earth and willing to actually talk about his car and team in detail. If more people in the business shared his attitude the sport would be that much more enjoyable.
He's one of very few 'like to invite him round for dinner at my place' guys in the paddock. Not up his own arse like Gascoyne or nerdy like Newey (though he would definitely be one of my other guests)

Would prefer it if he wasn't damaging his body with the carcinogen sticks. I'd like him to be around for a long time to come.

One thing I do like very much about him apart from his very honest interviews is how he will sometimes stick up for the teams drivers despite whatever Flav is saying!

Can't believe some people harp on about him smoking tobacco. Get over it. The vast majority of his generation was and still are smokers (for the record I'm a non-smoker).

Pat Symonds is great though, always a fantastic voice of reason - even when everyone else is up in arms.

He isn't condescending as RB.
Anyhow, if you all listen to the Renault podcasts, you will hear how candid a TD such as PS can be in provide full insights into what a top F1 organization is doing.
A top notch fellow.
