so, who's got google earth?

http://earth.google.com

(downloads are suspended but you can find a mirror pretty easily)

it would be cool to get all the coordinates of the f1 circuits, plus other circuits of interest, even places like woking and maranello.

i'll start; here's the indianapolis motor speedway:
39.7951425338, -86.2349140662

and monaco:
43.7363699891, 7.42695156898

post away!

Hehe, I was just thinking about this yesterday, as I was trying to find Mugello, Fiorano and Monza, with no success :(

I did find the Hungaroring, since that's the only track I've been to in Europe. Don't have the coordinates now though.

Adelaide and Melbourne (the two other tracks I've been to) are also easy finds, although Melbourne's Albert Park is only partially photographed at the full resolution, so most of the track is in low res :(

Hi, I located Spa and Monza, none of them can be seen with much detail, and Maranello, where you can see some ferrari trucks. You can paste directly this xml in "My Places", it works like a bookmark.

Unfortunately all those direct links to tracks are screwed. Forum software usually displays a shorted version of a long link, while keeping the underlying link intact. I think you copied just the display of the links, rather than the links themselves :/

You don't need to get google earth.

- Go to maps.google.com

- click on "satelite" in the map of the US

- paste this numbers: 41.5671 2.2548 (barcelona circuit)

This website has coordinates for a lot of cities. You can use it to find stuff on the map.

I think I'm being really thick, but where exactly do you paste the XML in "My Places"??

Also, if you need a link for google earth, I used this:

Albert Park (Melbourne, Australia)

-37.846220, 144.97825 (LAT, LON)

Unfortunately the map is only high-res to a point just slicing through the Western end of the circuit. So you can see turns 3, 4 and 5 in high-res but te rest is all low-res.

high res: Catalunya
high res: Monte Carlo
low res: Nurburgring
high res: Montreal
high res: Indianapolis
high res: Magny-Cours
high res: Silverstone
low res: Hockenheim
high res: Hungaroring
low res: Istanbul
low res: Monza
low res: Spa-Francorchamps
high res: Interlagos (picture of track resurfacing in progress!)
high res: Suzuka
low res: Shanghai

So what really is different to Keyhole?

I have Keyhole2Pro on my computer and see no reason for ditching it. In fact, knowing Google own both, what IS different?

I think it is just a newer version and now renamed to Google Earth. Don't know for sure. There are various versions of Google Earth just as with KeyHole. Since you have it already, i would think you should wait until google sends you an upgrade link. Is there a "Check for newer versions" in KeyHole?

lots of interesting grafitti on the track, but why's the roof of the grandstand been painted on??

Not sure which tracks haven't been posted yet, but here's Interlagos

-23.7012978745995, -46.69760988452636

inter = between and lagos = lakes, so zoom out to see the huge lakes that the track is between!

Also Suzuka 34.84396550361197,136.5305641352252

and Hungaroring 47.58102844308399,19.25285487740132

Well if you want to get that technical, the first building is the shop, the one to the left is the machine shop and as you said, the orange roof is the composites building. Patrick Freisacher likes to park his Lambo out front (to the right in the photo) and Mr. Minardi parks his BMW near the entrance (top of the main building in the photo).

Heh, you know its funny that we were just discussing giving this "google earth" a try at my engineering firm. Looks like the photo resolution is pretty good. If we can get 1 m or better still...0.5 m pixel resolution it may be something we really need to get.

Great thread!

Hi, guys. Cool thread. I downloaded Google Earth and I gotta say it is much better than Google Maps.

I took 85 % of all the tracks that were posted in this thread and put them into one file (sorted by continent and country). I'll do the other tracks later on. Also, post additional ones:up:

Meanwhile, download this file and just open it to have them all in your Google Earth. (They will appear under temporary folder at first, so u gotta move them.

OK, I cannot attach this file, as I cannot find a button for it... : **** it

I'd be interested in this File. You can upload it to a site like http://www.rapidshare.de/ or http://213.202.240.1...fer&sysf=upload .
