According to Autosport, for both the Sports cars and the F3, only 30 starters were allowed on what was the short course. 45 F3's were entered and they practiced in two groups with the fastest making up the grid. The report doesn't cover any other events on the bill.

These photos are the only record of Ricard in the book, no results of that race. They were run I guess under the Walter Hayes inspired FFI umbrella ( Formula Ford International ) to promote and expand the formula into Europe. Interestingly it says in the book that the winner of the FF Euro series in 1970, Claude Bourgoigne, won a spectacular prize - a new Cortina, with a racing car trailer to tow behind it onto which would go a new fully sponsored F3 car for the 1971 season! Imagine that now... the young driver BRDC McLaren Autosport award these days is about one sixth of a decent F3 budget!

French magazine Sport Auto published a review of that F. Ford race (the first in France ever) : 50 lines in french and the results.
I'm not able to scan this text now, but here is the classification :
1. Dahlquist (S / Merlyn BRM), 30'35''2 (128,059 km/h)
2. harness (GB/ Lotus Novamotor), + 7''
3. Scheckter (ZA/ merlyn Rowland), + 21''
4. Trevelyan (GB/ Crossle JDM), + 27''
5. Sundahl (S/ Merlyn BRM), + 42''
6. Koinig (A/ Lotus Nova), + 51''
I hope this will help...
Do you need the review ?

Was the Formula Ford engine preparation firm JDM the one run by John Miles, as in Lotus racer and engineer John Miles? I am sure he was John D Miles and the other one was John E Miles.

Anyone who can help with an entry list or start numbers, Pole Position, Fastest Lap... etc?
And... anyone else who have problems with opening "Racing Lines" image of the review of the race? When opening the file, I got all sorts of pop-up windows, error messages, advertising from some sort of company called "Clean your computer". And my whole system goes down for a while, act spooky for a few minutes, and finally the computer closes down completely.
Annoying.
I can assure you that I have all the latest virus protections, firewalls, etc.

Here are some informations on the Paul Ricard International Trophy held in April, 19 1970. As we know, it was a Sport 2L race with 30 cars entered.
The race used the 3,264 km circuit and the distance was 100 laps, the pole position was taken by Jo Bonnier on Lola Ford T 210 in 1' 21" 4.
The final ranking gives:
1. Brian Redman Chevron Ford FVC B16
2. Jo Bonnier Lola Ford FVC T 210
3. John Burton Chevron Ford FVC B16
4. Mario Casoni Abarth 2000 S
5. Ian Skailes Chevron Ford FVC B16
6. Ed Swart Abarth 2000 S
7. "POGO" Abarth 2000 S
8. Eris Tondelli Abarth 2000 S
9. Henri Balas Porsche 911 T
10. Michel Vial Alpine Renault A 110 1300 S
The fastest lap was for Jo Bonnier, with a time of 1' 21" 1.

Im from a modding group for the rFactor sim, and we are releasing a mod covering the 1970 WSC championship. Our first release will be some S2000 cars and by coincidence we just got the Paul Ricard track to release too. When I was looking for nice programmes from Paul Ricard I found out that the inaugural race was with those very 2000 cars .
Do you have ani idea if we can find any pics from this race?
Thank you again

Both Roger and I would like to know the fate of John Manktelow, in my case because he owned a sister car to one of mine.
A little more info has surfaced since Roger's post, so I thought I would bring it to the surface for a moment.
Mr. Manktelow was undoubtedly associated with Willy Griffiths Engineering at Culford Gardens, Chelsea in October 1960. Incidentally the premises (no. 18) would now appear to be a boutique which, I am told, was favoured by the late Princess Diana.
Thanks to Ian Senior, we know he built the engine for Crossle that "John Trevelyan" used in 1971. I wonder if "John Trevelyan" is still with us? Apart from his drives in the Sports 2000 Lola (well covered on this forum) I believe he raced Renault 5TS.
I am told that Mr. M's background to Ford engine building came from building engines for rally Escorts.
As Roger has remarked in another post, I was informed (by J. Ibell) that Mr. M was last heard of running a garage in or around Aylesbury and that he had emigrated - destination unknown.
Very grateful for any light anyone can shed on the whereabouts of Mr. Manktelow or, come to that, "John Trevelyan".

Reference the 40th anniversary of Paul Ricard I was at the circuit last Sunday for the final round in the Winter Series they have been running for Formula Le Mans and GT cars. They had no fewer than eleven Oreca built Courage-Chevrolets taking part so it was quite spectacular. I will attach a photo out of interest.
However the Director of the circuit Gerard Neveu is making plans for a 4oth Anniversary day on Sunday July 18 at the circuit. They plan to have a few things going on but nothing has been finalised. I think there will be demonstrations and I think they are planning to invite various people with cars that raced at Paul Ricard over the past 40 years as well as drivers etc. No doubt there will be a motor sport memorabilia area and so on but I will forward any information as soon as I find out.
For the record if anyone is planning a holiday in the South of France the following dates cover the main events at the Circuit.
April 10/11 Round of the Le Mans Series, the 8 Hours of Castellet
April 24 Races for cars in the Tour Auto
July 3/4 Round in the FIA World GT Championship
September 4/5 A sports and gt car endurance event organised V de V
September 18/19 GT Sprint Superstars ?
October 9/10 The 10,000 laps of Castellet. Presumably a long distance event.
October 30/31 Grand Prix Historique de Provence. the big historic meeting.
The photo below shows the cheeky Radical with its Suzuki V8 engine driven by Frederic Rouvier which held second place against all the 6 litre Corvette engined Formula Le Mans Courages. As you can see three of them are lining up and all three eventually got past but only after about twenty minutes of hard racing.

I can send you a copy of an English language race report for the Ricard race as well as the Sport Auto version, if you send me a Personal Message with your e mail - see members' profile link. I would like to ask for your recollections of certain aspects of FFord in 69/71 for reasons which I will explain via e mail.
