Today saw the press preview for Festival of Speed 2006. I thought you might enjoy a look at some of the 'entry' present in sunny Sussex this morning...

Thanks for sharing Doug

I heard to say that Bugatti will be one of the marks which will be well represented this year, it's true?

Best regards

Correct - How could one possibly celebrate 100 years of Grand Prix racing without including Bugatti cars - real ones, and this too...

Posted Image

Watch <http://www.goodwood.co.uk/2004/fos/> for further detail - it must surely appear there shortly...

Hi Doug,

On the 11th of July (just 2 days after the Festival), it will be 35 years ago that Pedro died.
Sending a BRM up the hill would be a great tribute!

It's also 40 years since the 'Return to Power' - it would be fantastic to see some 3-litre cars together from that year (Brabham-Repco, Eagle, BRM H16, Cooper-Maserati...........or the Ferrari 312 that BCE has, ex-Obrist) - and 40 years since BJ's WDC.

It's also 40 years since the making of That Movie - it'd be great to see James Garner here (or Bedford or Sabato).

why the "patina'd" d50, whats the point, we know its a replica, nothing wrong with thatm but why be so dishonest!!??

sorry another question, is it "pat-tin-ah" or "pat-teen-ah"

Nice pics and the attendees for this year look good. (hate the Prodrive BTW, also not a fan of their engineering ;))

I also agree on the D50, it looks very wrong!

Just over a month away  ....and looking forward to it :)

Any more updates on the programme? see Nigel Mansell is making his debut appearance ( I'm surprised that he hasn't been before!)

And how many other TNFers are going?

A question, is the Brooklands Memorial still in place just after the start? It was a chunk of concrete taken from (if my memory serves) from the Home Banking.

do you mean like last year, when I registered and asked for tickets and never received anything???
I've been inundated with spam from them ever since.

Likewise I requested the free tickets from the Sunday Times and never heard a thing, my spam software seems to prevent the junk mail though.

Thanks for pinching my photograph of your car JSF...;)

Last year they had too many requests and not enough tickets so it was changed into a draw - people I know from another site received a 'congratulations you've won ' type note with them.

I applied for the tickets last year and didn't 'win' them - so rather than mess around with the Times offer again just bought them instead :)

To answer green-blood's question, I have always pronounced it "pat-tin-ah"!

We have some fantastic historic events in Australia, but I crave the range of marques that are on display and in competition over in the UK. We are generally very lucky to have Peter Giddings driving out here with something historic and exotic, but you guys have a smorgasbord from which to salivate over!

One gets a small taste of the atmosphere at Goodwood from the dvd productions, but it is just not the same.

Long-time lurker checking in. My kids have bought me tickets to Friday's FoS - any tips for new visitors? How loud does it get? Are earplugs essential? (I have to confess the last GP I was actually present at was the British GP at Brands Hatch in the 60s, the one where Pete Aron was racing ;) and I haven't been to any other races since the late 60s)

Most of us are so deaf from standing next to engines that we can't tell you how loud they are.

Pleasure David. :D

If you are planning on getting near to the cars as they line up/warm up, wear some earplugs, most are unsilenced, cars like our March are very loud even on tickover.

PARDON?

If the Alfetta 158 is there this year, don't miss the run-up they do towards the end of the day. It normally draws a crowd in the paddock and applause afterwards: it must be the only engine which is tuned by ear. The scream of the supercharger is wonderfully excruciating and I've seen people literally jump in the air in fright when the throttle is blipped! Heaven .....

That is exactly what came to my mind. I recall the 93?/94? FoS when Jim Stokes' people were warming up Carol Spagg's car. The tight sound from the blown 1.5litre Tripoli 165 MBenz is a close second.

It is what the much-missed Jenks would call MUSIC

This morning's post brought the latest blurb from Goodwood.

Nino Vacarella and Richard Petty are slated to drive.

Sheer Magic. Where else could I hope to see such legends??

Last year my son & I were watching this piece of automotive theatre on the Friday morning when I recognised the lucky b*st*rd who was due to drive it.

It was only the long haired one off Top Gear !

I was so envious I could have decked him.

The two cars in the picture above will be there, which is the M8F of Richard Piper and Richard Dodkins March 717, both with over 800BHP/lbft.

Cathedral Padock is where the Sports and Touring cars are located, it's near the bottom of the hill the other side of the road from the Cartier and Supercar padock, behind a fairly high bushed fence which makes it harder to find than most of the areas.

The Cathedral Paddock is not harder to find. You just follow the trail of TNF members.

Thanks JSF, I'm hoping I can get my hands on a preliminary entry list soon. The website only has a brief snippets of entries.

Cathedral paddock, did anybody else get stranded there last year in the Friday downpour? :)

Yep. Me, David McKinney, Roger Clark, 2F-001 ..... we were all down at the bottom end by the yellow Miller and the Blower Bentleys.

with four days to go, it is time to arrange the traditional TNF gatherings, can I suggest 1pm each day? I understand that Ted Walker will not be there this year, so we'll have to find a new location.

If JSF's car is likely to be paddocked at 1pm could always meet there :)

Or by the Lofty England statue ...

Alternatively :) we could meet at the front entrance to the bar marquee on the cricket pitch for a beer .

Any other suggestions?

Even the Cathedral Paddock can be crowded at times. I like the idea of the bar.
