Not quite F1, but I see the IRL championship was decided on a wins basis (Wheldon and Hornish being equal on points)

You could call it the olympic points stand. It took me a while to figure out, but it's pretty much the gold/silver/bronze rank in olympics.

Alonso hits back and is the leader with one race to go!
Michael has to win in Brazil but if he wins he's the 2006 AQUA champion, no matter what Fernando does.

1. Alonso 7x1st, 6x2nd
2. M Schumacher 7x1st, 4x2nd
3. Massa 1x1st, 3x2nd
4. Fisichella 1x1st, 4x3rd
5. Button 1x1st, 1x3rd
6. Raikkonen 2x2nd
7. Montoya 1x2nd, 1x3rd
8. de la Rosa 1x2nd, 2x5th
9. R Schumacher 1x3rd, 1x4th, 1x6th

11. Coulthard 1x3rd, 1x5th
12. Kubica 1x3rd, 1x9th
13. Barrichello 2x4th

25. Ide 1x13th
26. Montagny 2x16th
27. Yamamoto 1x16th

Ferrari is still leading the AQUA WCC, but only just - by virtue of their second places: Michael's 4 plus Felipe's 3! It's remarkable that Fisi has won a race, but still hasn't finished 2nd this year.

2. Renault 8x1st, 6x2nd
3. Honda 1x1st
4. McLaren 4x2nd

Furthermore, now Alonso has as many championships as... Jim Clark! Local newspapers report the swearing was audible in the whole UK!

I always wait a while to be sure there won't be any DQs, penalties or something like that but -
yes, once again Fernando Alonso is the AQUA champion!

Seven wins, seven second places.
Amazing, certainly if you think that before the season started the main favorites for the title, according to the bookies, were Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen. Will they ever learn ;)

This the final result of the 2006 AQUA WDC:

1. Alonso 7x1st, 7x2nd
2. M Schumacher 7x1st, 4x2nd
3. Massa 2x1st
4. Fisichella 1x1st, 4x3rd
5. Button 1x1st, 2x3rd
6. Raikkonen 2x2nd
7. Montoya 1x2nd, 1x3rd
8. de la Rosa 1x2nd, 2x5th
9. R Schumacher 1x3rd, 1x4th, 1x6th
10. Heidfeld 1x3rd,1x4th, 4x7th
11. Coulthard 1x3rd, 1x5th
12. Kubica 1x3rd, 2x9th
13. Barrichello 2x4th
14. Trulli 1x4th
15. Webber 2x6th
16. Villeneuve 1x6th
17. Rosberg 2x7th
18. Klien 2x8th
19. Liuzzi 1x8th
20. Speed 1x9th, 2x10th
21. Monteiro 1x9th, 1x12th
22. Albers 1x10th, 1x11th
23. Sato 1x10th, 1x12th
24. Doornbos 2x12th
25. Ide 1x13th
26. Yamamoto 2x16th, 1x17th
27. Montagny 2x16th, 1x18th

But Felipe Massa's win decided the 2006 WCC in favor of Ferrari!

Final result of the 2006 WCC AQUA:

1. Ferrari 9x1st
2. Renault 8x1st
3. Honda 1x1st
4. McLaren 4x2nd
5. BMW 2x3rd
6. Toyota 1x3rd, 2x4th
7. Red Bull 1x3rd, 1x5th
8. Williams 2x6th
9. Toro Rosso 1x8th
10. Spyker/Midland 1x9th
11. Super Aguri 1x10th

Congrats!

Ummm, you think because I created the AQUA system I'm an advocate of it? Perhaps you should go and read the original thread . . . .

Kudos to Scheivlak though. Great work mate, I know from experience that the results aren't that easy to map out, and you do it with a far greater level of detail than I ever did. Highly impressive work.

border i´m not saying you are the man who defends it but sure you try to put kimi on top of it last year and alonso still win it.

I did what? How could I "put Kimi on top of it"?

As far as Alonso is concerned, I think he's won two World Championships not by being the fastest driver out there, but by simply having a more reliable car. He hasn't impressed me, but that's not a debate for here.

True, but that was an exceptional season with more than a few exceptional circumstances.

AQUA is an interesting barometer, nothing more, it just shows you who was the dominant driver each season in terms of taking wins. Now, if Raikkonen and Schumacher had had more reliabe cars under them in 05 and 06, these scores would be very different indeed. What that means to you is your choice, but for me it puts Alonso's titles in a certain light.

Thats all.

you are forgeting all the efford the renault team puts on early races.
without that it would be diferent. you could see a more agressive alonso, like we saw in china 05. and why not in brasil 06: without him there´s no renault cup.

anyway, next year is kimi´s year ( a great scholar of dc ;)
