Can anyone tell me more about these shots? I heard they were from a facility in New York just after board tracks were being sent to the grave.

Thanks in advance...

Looks like the Fiat test track at Lingotto, Torino. Italy, not New York.

Is this the same building that featured in the Mini Chase at the end of the Italian Job?

Never knew they held racing though?
In 1961 a round of the Intercontinental World Championship was scheduled for a 'banked track at Turin' but cancelled due to lack of Ferrari interest.
Main problem as I see it is where would they put the spectators?

I've been informed that the facility is now a hotel and mall...

Here are some recent photos...

The track surface looks superb!

Access is still possible to the roof top track, a run on which features as one of the attractions for the "Italian Job Mini Tour" which is a charity Mini tour run from Britain in support of the National Childrens Homes Charity.

Over the years £1.9 million pounds has been raised by these intrepid Mini crews.

It is on my list of "things to do before I die", with our MK1 Mini

Now you got me confused; I would have thunk it is on top of the old Fiat factory in Mirafiori. When I went there for a visit with a friend in 2004, of course we didn't find it. We got a private tour through the Fiat works museum (centro storico) and got a book commemorating the 100 year anniversary of Fiat as a present as well!

Me thinks I've seen pictures of this track in the book, and me thinks I've read something like it was demolished some years later... I'll need to check it when I find this little Fiat book again!

If you look closely at the second picture, it appears that the cars are actually bare chassis rather than racers. Presumably they're more expensive models being tested before being driven to specialist coachbuilders.

Zoe, I'm afraid you are indeed confused, it is definately the Fiat Lingotto Factory - used in the filming of the Original "Italian Job" Film (1969) and just down the road from the stadium used for the last winter olympics.

2 more Images lifted from Google Earth and it can still be found on the Via Nizza Turin

OK, it is the Fiat works Lingotto, built (finished) 1922. Once one of the largest car manufacturing sites of the world.

Frogeye, we overlapped :)

Yup, I just confused the new Mirafiori complex with the old Lingotto factory. It is still in my precious Fiat book (If only my Italian would be better....)

I believe there was a clip of the track in use in one of the episodes of the TV series "The Power & the Glory"... :)
