Has anyone either a programme or the detailed results of the Scottish Rally held in May and June 1955? I seek details of the performances of the Morgans
Thanks
Jake

I was waiting to see if anyone would reply to this. In the 1955 Scottish Rally the Clarkson Morgan was the one fitted with a fake Ferrari coupe body on it. Roy had owned/leased a Ferrari Coupe in the early 1950's and loved the shape but hated the car. He got rid of it and got a coachbuilder to rebuild it in the style of a Ferrari Coupe. I am afraid the guy made a brave effort but didn't get it quite right. I knew the car well as my regular driver in rallies, Sandy Forrest, bought it from Roy and he and I went down to Essex - where he had moved his dental practice from Falkirk - and picked it up. I drove it on many occasions. If could only master this business of placing photos I would put one up of yours truly at the wheel of the car in a driving test meeting. (PLease don't suggest Image Shack as I am useless at it.)

However for the record the Morgans on the 1955 Scottish Rally were as follows :

Class 6 Touring Cars

1st Roy Clarkson ( Morgan Coupe)

Class 9 Sports cars over 1600ccs

4th Frank Dundas/Eric Dymock

20th Rainer Michalkiewicz/ John Ross

25th J E F Howe/ ?

26th Andy Neil/ Chrissie Neil ( The Neil sisters were regular competitors and Andy married Frank
Dundas...see above)

Also, for the records : 13th overall in Class 9 was the Billy Potts/Jim Clark Austin Healey 100, Clark's first ever International event and on one of the main roads he drove at 100 mph for the first time in a private race with another Healey 100 driven by Ken Best.

Sorry...........reference the above Clarkson used a Morgan chassis and Triumph TR engine as the basis of the Fake-errari.

I know this is an old post, but an article in May '09 Classic and Sports Cars has an article on a Jowett Javelin, a twin to the Clarkson Morgan, both built by Charlie Robinson, with neither purchaser knowing of the other car. The grilles were different, making the Jowett less recognisable as a replica Ferrari body. Both had superleggera bodywork. The Jowett had a boot lid.(C&SC, May '09, "Yorkshire Terrier", Page 124)
