I have just read that the historic Targa Florio pit complex at Cerda, together with 14 hectares of surrounding land, is struggling to find a buyer in an attempt to help the cash-strapped AC di Palermo. Apparently it was offered by public auction in August but there were no takers. Subsequently offered at 1,200,000 Euros, the price has now dropped to 950,000 Euros.
I always thought that it was retained by the Florio family, producers of the famous marsala, as it was when I visited in the 1980s and early '90s, but, presumably, they subsequently sold it to the Targa organisers.
