It has happened... remember the end of season karting at Bercy in France?
Senna and Prost absolutely going for it.

I think the best thing about this was that the karts were very pure.
Two stroke, 100CC and clearly very quick.
It was great to see many, many names from the 1993 season racing at the end of it like this.
And Prost still won!

I'd rather see that than some awkward and perhaps meaningless sprint race on a saturday morning of a GP weekend.

Prost Team !
It was a team-based event. I remember that i was very disappointed that Senna had to retire with car failure.
I remember that it was his own kart or just his own white sidepods or something...

From memory all the karts were supplied by the organisers.
Senna was really going for it all meeting.
In one of the qualifying races he buried it in the tyres quite heavily.

It's pretty sad, because I was really glad that he would go. He seems to be a passionate kart racer. :

Update:
The whole state of St. Catarina has suffered with heavy rain this past week, mostly on the countryside, where some 80 people have died and many floods have occurred. The Mayor of Florianopolis even thought about posponing the race because of the tragedy, but it has been confirmed.
The event is donating R$50.000,00 to help the relief efforts. Massa is also donating R$50k himself (about $25k) to the cause.
Schummy is in town, he arrived in the circuit in a heli, but has been avoiding the media ever since.
Rubinho also went to the track, but didnt meet MS yet. RB has played down the latest comments he and MS made in the press, saying that the media is just hungry for news (what a surprise).
Massa said he invited Kimi, but the Finn didnt want to come (Kimi, RU scared or just lazy? )
Massa also said that Jeff Gordon's invitation was a strategy to make the race intersting for NA fans saying that "JG is like a MS there".
As for the race, practice starts saturday morning, with two groups having 2x40min:
Group 1:
Alexandre Barros
Allam Khodair
Antonio Pizzonia
João Paulo de Oliveira
Luciano Burti
Luis Tedesco
Mario Moraes
Max Wilson
Ricardo Maurício
Ricardo Zonta
Roberto Moreno
Tony Kanaan
Vitor Meira
Group 2:
Felipe Giaffone
Felipe Massa
Jeff Gordon
Luca Badoer
Lucas Di Grassi
Marcos Gomes
Michael Schumacher
Popó Bueno
Rubens Barrichello
Tarso Marques
Thiago Camilo
Vitantonio Liuzzi
Xandinho Negrão
Qualifying starts at 3pm with each group having 20 mins.

MS aside (he will always be a favourite) I think Di Grassi can surprise some people. Kanaan is also strong. And Rubens will be on a mission too.

Without Kubica and Montoya I don't see anyone who can challenge Schumacher.
Liuzzi is above Kubica and Montoya by head and shoulders.

Erm, almost every F1 driver was among the best karters in the World of their era. Kubica and Hamilton are definitely great karters, but they have achieved nothing in karting that other F1 drivers haven't achieved too. Did Lewis and Robert win the Kart World Championship, for example? Because Liuzzi did...

Di Grassi got lucky with a drying track, but did a good lap to get pole.
RB ahead of Schummy. Sparks will fly!
Pizzonia looks quick too.
Jeff Gordon looks rusty compared to the other guys, he asked RB for advice about fuel loads but looked lost: "at least the track goes to the left". Anyone wanna bet how many laps behind Schummy will JG finish?

Believe me Kubica is at least as good in karting as Liuzzi.

So, if the race (2) starts at 2pm Brazil time, that would be 7pm UK time right? Just trying to figure out when to tune in online.

They had a sort of superpole grouping, where only the top 10 went for pole.
Thanks Dutra, I was going to miss the 1st race!

First race starts 14:15 CET and second race 17:00 CET, so I believe in UK it's -1 hour.
