A thread which started in another forum I read, but seemed appropriate here.

How many and which circuits have you visited?

If nothing else I'm sure it would make an excellent database for Darren G to glean impressions for his site from :)

I'm racing out the house now and I'll add my own list soon, but don't hold back - post, and boast away!

I haven't seen that many really.... would you believe I spent a month in the UK and didn't visit one race track. Next time I go overseas I'll try to rectify that.... I hope to go to Le Mans in the next few years...

IMS
Vancouver (not really a track)
Atlantic Motorsport Park (Schubie... been there many times... a technical track)
Shannonville
Mosport

A bunch of motorcycle flat tracks, motorcross events, and trials events that I can't even begin to list.... Never did make it to Westwood... although my dad raced there. My Dad used to do articles/photos for a newsletter for a Atlantic Canadian sanctioning body... Got a press pass for AMA events. Have some nice pictures of Superbikes in its infancy.

Slighlty more details huh peeps :p

Roughly in chronological order ....

18 circuits - more than I thought..

Surfers Paradise Raceway (Queensland) - My first race track - I saw a Touring Car round there in '78 or '79. Was closed in '87 by a group of neighbouring country clubs because those race cars were too damn noisy. Deceptively fastwith a damn mean sweeper under the bridge that has been rebuilt at Queensland Raceway.

Lakeside International Raceway (Queensland) - Mainstay of racing in Queensland. It was one of the Tasman circuits of the 60's that saw Formula One car visit down under. Been going to Touring Car rounds throughout 80's & 90's and now work there every meeting. Closed recently - high hopes for re-opening.

Brisbane Exhibition Speedway (Queensland) - The 'ole bullring at the RNA. Spent many a Saturday night there as a kid watching Sprintcars, speedcars, demolition derbys etc.

Numeorus Special Stages of Rally Queensland (Queensland) - been going to stages in Toombul, Coolum, Imbul and Noosa since 1992

Surfers Paradise Indycar Street Circuit (Queensland) - When CART came to South East Queensland, been a semi-regular visit to the Indycars on the Gold Coast street circuit, which is just spitting distance from the old Surfers Paradise Raceway, still reasonably intact more than a decade later, but horribly overgrown.

Adelaide Parklands Formula One Street Circuit (South Australia) - went to the last Adelaide Grand Prix in 1995. Had an absolute ball. Post Formula One the circuit has been revived for a Touring Car event and a sadly one-off ALMS race on the eve of the Millenium.

Mount Panorama, Bathurst (New South Wales) - Been on the annual pilgrimage since 1997. Best racetrack in the world. You should see the class of driver that agrees with that statement.

Willowbank Raceway (Queensland) - Dragstrip of south east queensland. Money no object on this place, has held some drag racing world records. Unrivalled claim to best drag strip in the southern hemisphere.

Leyburn Historic Sprints (Queensland) - Round the town historic sprint commemorating the 1949 Australian Grand Prix held not far from the nearby but now defunct Leyburn airstrip circuit.

Symmons Plains Raceway (Tasmania) - Tasmania's formost racetrack. Visitied it on a holiday at the ATCC round in 1998. Small fast and bumpy up & back. Driven past it numerous times over the decades.

Longford (Tasmania) - visited the scarce remnants of the Tasman Cup era street circuit while in the Symmons Plains trip. Visited the famous Viaduct and marvelled how Formula One cars could possibly have negotiated it.

Mount Cotton Hillclimb (Queensland) - Brisbane's Hillclimb, dangerous because it goes down as well as up, very compact.

Brisbane International Speedway Archerfield (Queensland) - Brisbane's premier speedway since the exhibition closed for racing. Too tight for great speedway, and a bit of a car wrecker.

Queensland Raceway (Queensland) - New circuit openned next door to Willowbank three years ago. Controversial and boring, has become Queenslands premier circuit racing venue.

Albert Park Formula One Street Circuit (Victoria) - Visited Melbourne for the 2000 Australian Grand Prix, had a ball again. Partay!

Warnambool Speedway (Victoria) - Victoria's premier speedway. Great looking, good racing.

Baskerville Raceway (Tasmania) - Tasmanias second race track and the second oldest still operating racetrack in Australia (after Bathurst)

Noosa Historic Hillclimb (Queensland) - the revived Noosa historic hillclimb. Now used annually for a historic hillclimb and again as the final stage of Rally Queensland.

Downs Speedway (Queensland) - Toowoomba's speedway. Visited it last year with the Queensland Sprintcar Summer Shootout. Very fast with little straights to speak of.

Lismore Speedway (New South Wales) - Lismore's showgrounds, hosted the QSSS last season. Small tight and fast.

Morgan Park (Queensland) - New circuit near Warwick. Awesome little club circuit, but they have some impressive ambitions.

Murwillumbah (New South Wales) - Home of Speed on Tweed sprint event which promises to become the Australian Goodwood of historic festivals.

Yandina Speedway (Queensland) - Dirt oval, all turns little straight.

Addendum:

Maryborough Speedway (Queensland) - Granite instead of clay surface, but otherwise much of a muchness. Sprintcars spit the surface in your mouth in the commentary box. Cheers guys.

Rockhampton City Speedway (Queensland) - Tidy bullring showgrounds track but awesome four story high garage built to house mining haul trucks. Sprintcar pantechs are dwarfed inside. Grabbed deck chair, plugged into plentiful powerpoint in and amongst all the teams - best office I've ever had.

Carina Speedway (Queensland) - Fast third mile speedway near Bundaberg. Pits looong walk from commentary. Got some exercise but.

Phillip Island (Victoria) - ye gods what an awesome and spectacular facility.

Yep! Fast too - it drizzled when I went there, which just added to the fun when the front right wheel decided to part company with my kart when in the S-bends at the end of the main straight......

Count me as another of the short listers - all as a spectator only. :)

Surfers Paradise Raceway (various F5000, Sports Sedan and Touring Car races)
Lakeside (Touring Cars)
Laguna Seca (Historics)
Brisbane Exhibition Bullring
Warwick Farm (but not sure if it counts as I was there to see the horses go round rather than the cars)

Now to figure out ways to make that list grow.

I can't believe it, almost fifty replies and I haven't yet posted...;) [well, maybe I was just a bit too ashamed of my "short list"]

Nürburgring
Hockenheim
Francorchamps
Wolsfeld
Montjuïc Park

Mmhhh, that it? Can't recall any else :( Ah yes, the Kerpen kart track on which the world-famous Schu Bros. shook off their "L" plate...

[to Darren]Don't get excited about Wolsfeld, it's just a hill-climb here in the Eifel woods...[/to Darren]

You people are so lucky... My 'list' is shorter than anyone's...

Hungaroring (I was a paying spectator in all 16 Hungarian Grands Prix so far!)
Monaco (I just walked around the track in 1993 and also in 1998)
Barcelona (I saw it from the motorway...)
Montjuic (I discovered a couple of corner's of the old track, when I visited Barcelona in 1998. BTW, should I count Pedralbes? I went along the 'Diagonal" by bus...)
