As it is now 6 months since I put together the first TNF Database, I thought it was time I updated it. After a quick scroll through the last couple of pages of threads, I have located 41 more names that are not on my original list. I am sure that many more have joined in since November, but I don't have the time to scroll through every thread, for obvious reasons (work, shed, wife, eat, sleep etc!)

So if anyone spots this thread and has joined since, say, Christmas 2001, what I include in the database is:

Name - (if you are prepared to give it)
Year of Birth
Country of Birth
Country of Residence (if different from above)
First race attended
Favourite driver

Obviously, some people fill in their profiles and I can get most of the info from there. However, some profiles are blank. It is my intention to completely ignore anyone for whom I have no details except a User Name. (Sorry, but these people can have no effect on any database information and anyway it's MY database)

Anyone wishing to add to the details on their profile can either post here or send me a Private Message if anonimity is required.

No personal details will be divulged to anyone else or published in any way.

Although I had joined TNF around March last year, I only started posting much later, so I guess I'm not included in the list! I never got to write a short bio about myself in the new introduction thread, but I hope doing it very soon!

Year of Birth 13th September 1943
Country of birth Zürich Switzerland
Country of residence Lugano Switzerland
First Race GP Switzerland a Bern 1954

I don’t have preferred drivers. During different periods of time same driver was for me better then other driver’s, anyway for me it’s not possible to confront drivers from a period to other period. For my Jack Brabham / Ron Tauranac was the best combination of driver and designer.

Jim - you were on my original list, but with no details, so thanks for those.

Sven - my list can accomodate only one Favourite Driver, so, rightly or wrongly, I take the first one named.

As it is now the weekend, I am moving this thread up a few notches to try to encourage a few more newer members to contribute.

I promise I won't keep doing it! ;)

Not sure if I ever replied to the previous threads so I'll do it now.

Name - Paul
Country of birth/residence - UK
1st race attended - That would be a BTCC race at Silverstone, season finale. As for the year, probabily '92.
Favourite driver - Not sure if I could name one single driver. Pre since I started watching I'd say Clark. However, since I started following, I've had a thing for balls to the wall type drivers, so I been a supporter of Mansell, JVilleneuve and Montoya.

Well, ignore JPM as he's not been round long enough & Clark as I wasn't around then. So I'll take Mansell over Villeneuve. He might have been annoying out of the car, and not as good as Senna but on his day he could do great things.

I agree with maxell. I'm sure you're intentions are entirely honourable but, for use newbies, perhaps some information as to who you are, what this nostalga forum database is and why you need one would be greatly appreciated.

Barry's a modest chap, so allow me ... :)

First of all - welcome to TNF, gledz and maxell.

So - who is Barry? Well, if you look very carefully at his avatar, you will see that it depicts the Connew F1 car - he was one of the small band of nutters who decided they could build an F1 car in a lock-up garage: the Connew was the outcome of that! So - as far as we know - he is the only F1 constructor to grace this board with his presence!

As he said, the database is purely for information regarding who we all are and where we all come from It is totally confidential if you so wish or, like many of us, you can reveal the person behind the "nick". You won't get spam, you won't get flamed - just sit back and enjoy the ride guys!

If you use the BB search function and search under the word database using the Nostalgia Forum option and selecting search in thread titles you will find the earlier versions - you'll find we're quite a cosmopolitan lot!

There's no need to shout .... :)

I thought I'd explained, but as Barry's probably in bed already ....

The database is, as I understand it, purely for the information of those of us who post, read and learn here. It has no commercial purpose whatsoever and is, as I said, totally confidential if you wish it to be - I notice, maxell, that you have provided most of what Barry asks about in your public profile: there is at least one other Icelander here (Hi Bjorn  ). Gledz, on the other hand, has retained an air of mystery .... no-one is compelling you to provide any other information, but if you do, it will remain confidential.

We have several hundred members here from about forty countries (maybe more by now!) and it can sometimes be of help to researchers to know who lives where and can help in their work. Just as an example, you will find that I (British), FEV (French), Marcor (Belgian) and Alessandro Silva (Italian) work with Hans Etzrodt (German, living in Hawaii) and often co-operate on various things. FEV also works with Stefan Ornerdal (Swedish) ... the list goes on. Without the Net and this forum we would probably never have contacted each other.

So, no compulsion, no hidden agenda, no spam, no flames .... just a shared passion!

Maxell - check your e-mails! You will find a message there from me.

Thanks to Vitesse for that CV.

As Vitesse has said, you will find the results of the first 'sweep' of members if you search the Forum using DATABASE as your key word.

Gledz - you have absolutely no need to worry about our database because you offer no info whatever. I do not include people who offer no info because their presence in the database will have zero effect on any statistics produced.

Maxell - I hope we have allayed any fears you had. As Vitesse says, you have info in your profile and I shall absorb that with pleasure. If you do not wish to add anything else, so be it; it is entirely your choice and you have my total respect regarding that decision.

Fair enough - all your profile details have been removed.

With respect, this of course begs the question why did you bother to ask about the database in the first place?

Well, David, it was compiled while I was off sick from teaching awaiting retirement. I couldn't work so I had loads of time on my hands.

Nowadays, I have less time....

In order to update it, it would mean scrolling through dozens and dozens of threads to see who has posted within the last, say, 6 months.

Now, if 'twere possible to isolate only those who post on this forum as opposed to the whole of Atlas, it might not take forever - otherwise.....

Well, David, seeing that you have started it up again..... (only joking)

I am prepared to add anyone who takes the trouble to list their information, as some already have - and I am also prepared to check the last post of all the people who are on my old original list and remove anyone who has not posted since, say, the beginning of 2005.

Is this satisfactory?

Rob29 - interesting that you have never noticed this before because you are there on the Database I drew up years ago! (The information tallies, by the way!)

Well, I have gone through all 163 members that I had listed on the original database, to find that 44 of them have not posted since the end of 2004.

Interestingly, of those who gave me their full details (124 members), over 80% are still around. I have sketchy info (or none) for another 39 people, over 50% of whom have left us.

Of course, some of those who are still on the list may only post on Racing Comments or the Paddock Club, but I am not in a position to check that fact. They still post on Atlas, so that's good enough for me.

During the next few days I will add those who have kindly submitted info in the last 24 hours, and anyone else who wishes to add theirs.

I will also scroll through the latest couple of pages of threads to pick up a few names that are not on the original list; you know, unimportant people like Twinny, Doug Nye, Graham Gauld, Michael Oliver.... ;)

May I take this opportunity to thank my good friend David Beard, who, incidentally is also not on the list, for dragging this thing back up again. Cheers, Dave!!!!!
