 I just wonder if some of you guys have scans of old Autosport report about Nigel Mansell in FFord and F3 in the late 70's. That would be really cool to see pics of it. Then, is there any pictures of the test he and some others (South, Lammers, de Angelis ...) made in 1979 for F1 Team Lotus ?

Thanks

It's not out of Autosport and not FFord or F3, but here's a picture of Nigel Mansell in a Ralt Honda RH6 (F2) at Silverstone in 1980.

Here's a snap I took at Brands with Mansell scrapping with Johanson, Thassin and Acheson - apologies for spellings.

David, thats actually David Sears at the back, not Acheson. Argo not March. That year Mansell had at March, any one any inside knowledge of why Nige didn't go well in the works March ? I've read the March book, and the Mansell one, each side slags the other off, but I wonder if it was simply that the car was c--p, and only Project 4 got it going properly. Certainly when he got a decent car, the Ralt F2 later that year, Nige went well enough, IMHO.

Dan

Thanks for that information, my photo collection - I hesitate to call it a library - is in dozens of boxes without any sort of index system so I rely on my pre senile memory!!

Wasn't the Unipart March the one powered by the Triumph Dolomite engine? If so, the answer is that it was never a really competitive powerplant in F3.

BRG, no, the 1980 March Nige had was a Toyota powered one, ie the same as everyone else that year. He had the Dolomite one in 79, when I agree the motor wasn't up to speed with the Toyotas. Must have been some other reason he was off the pace in 80, compared with simliar cars.

I have a complete run of On Track magazines from mid 1989 thru early 2001 and I get a big kick from looking thru old race reports to see todays stars when they were getting their start. For example, reading about new IRL champ Dan Wheldon when he was a rising star in Formula Vauxhall Jr.

I believe this was the first time I saw our Noige in action, 25th March 1979.
