Working through my 1969 magazines, I learnt that there was a race in Singapore over the 1966-1973 period, including a touring car race. A small but interesting movie on the 1966 edition (including motor cycles and formula cars) is here.
Googling through the internet, I found the 1966-1969 touring car winners; if anyone could provide me with more details and/or the 1970-1973 winners I would be most grateful.

There seems to have been a touring-car race at the Singapore GP - and at other SE Asia meetings - from at least 1961, though I can't help with results for the early races you are seeking. In 1970 Albert Poon was Singapore winner in an Alfa Romeo GTA and may have won again the following year with his GTAm

The Singapore Grand Prix of 1968 was won by Garrie Cooper in an Elfin 600 chassis number 6801.
The placegetters for the 1969 Race were Graeme Lawrence McLaren M4A, Roly Levis Brabham, unsure about third, Tony Maw Elfin 600? Malcom Ramsey Elfin 300B. Its not much info but it may help.
Dale.

None of those were saloons, Dale
In spite of the heading to the thread, I think the request relates to touring-car races at the S'pore GP

As far as I could find out, all the races there were part of this "Grand prix"...

Don't think so, Frank
In many years, saloons did run in the S'pore GP, but the overall results were dominated by single-seaters or sports-racers such as Lotus 23s. If there was a separate prize for saloons (which I doubt) it would presumably be less prestigious than the touring-car race at the same meeting
There was a separate saloon race each year, which I suspect is the one you have results of
There was a thread on the Singapore GP proper a few months ago

If you listen to the movie, the touring car race was called the highlight of the day; Barry Foley states on his website victories at the "Singapore Grand Prix" in his Mini Cooper, just like Mazda does. So that's why I guess that all the races (including the motorcycles probably) were called the Grand Prix.
If you're able to come up with a different title for the race I'll use that header for my site :o

A victory "at" the Singapore Grand Prix is quite different from victory "in" the Singapore Grand Prix. The first example suggests it was in a supporting race, the second the race itself

As David states there was a separate saloon car race, and a sports car race, at all the Singapore GP meetings beginning with the 1st in 1961. Many of the participants also did the Grand Prix, usually the following day. The title was changed to Malayasian GP ( 1st! ) in 1962 but reverted to the Singapore title in 1966 but with the addition of "International", and renumbered as the 1st again.

The information I have is incomplete but the winner of the saloon car race at 1961 GP was K.Murphy in an 850cc Mini in front of two Volvos driven by Yong Nam Kee and Rodney Seow.

For the 1962-1966 races I have only the class winners and cannot be sure who the overall winners were as their average speeds were not included in the lists. In 1966, however, the overall winner was Albert Poon in a Ford Lotus-Cortina.

The 1967 Aussie Brian Foley in his fierce Mini-Cooper S beat Albert Poon ( Alfa Romeo GTA ) and Dick Clinkard in a Lotus-Cortina.

Foley won again in 1968 chased by fellow Mini-Cooper men Peter Manton and Alan Davis.

The next year it was a Japanese victory for Mazda, their R100 driven by Yoshimi Katayama finishing well ahead of Albert Poon in his 2 litre Alfa Romeo GTAm. In 3rd place was again Davis.

In 1970 Albert Poon repeated his 1966 win, this time with the GTAm, with little opposition from Edwin Stotnard ( Cooper S ) and S.K.Quek who was also in a GTAm like Poon.

Albert won again in '71 in his GTAm with Abdul Malek ( Datsun 2000SSS ) and B.Suswanto ( 1.3 Mini Clubman ) next up.

In 1972 Bill Fanning in his Ford Escort TC triumphed over Harvey Yap ( Datsun ) and Poon in his trusty ( or should that be rusty! ) GTAm.

I have no information on the 1973 saloon car race.

Hope this is of some use.

Thank you John, that's a lot of useful information  . Were the races always held in the easter weekend? (between 1966 and 1970 they did).
If you could give the class winners of 62-66 we've at least got a complete list up to 1972.
Anyone had anything on 1973?

A lot of this was covered in detail in the thread about the Singapore GP several months ago... and yes, the tintops were mentioned in detail as well... their own races as well as their participation in the main event.

No need to be embarrassed. Before replying I checked the previous Singapore GP thread before posting my tuppence worth. It was the results of the Touring Car Races you needed between 1961 and 1973 I believe? The previous thread contributed very little. All I could find were the first 2 in 1966 plus 9th, the winner in 1967 and the first two in 1969 plus a few asides; hardly the detail I think you required for your site. Even now you probably want a lot more!

I think there are two previous threads...

The one to which I refer is the one where I gave detailed reports of several years.

The last Singapore race was in 1973, the touring car race was won by Brian Foley in his Alfa Romeo lightweight GTA (http://www.foleyalfa...g_ Pic2.htm#top, http://www.foleyalfa...au/BFracing.htm)

G'Day from Oz.

A new subscriber, following a couple of glasses of good Australian red, a discussion about the Singapore Grand Prix in the '60s over dinner, and a Google search which found this site.

I was Chief Course Marshal for the 1968 event; 12 - 15 April 1968. It was always run over Easter in those days. The British Forces Driving Club helped out the local Singapore Motor Sports Club in staging the event on the Old / New Upper Thompson Road circuit. I have a map of the course with each marshal position marked, and a few photos if anyone is interested. Can scan them in if requested.

I was really a rally man myself in those days, driving a Mk VII Jag (better than a work out in the gym any day!), but we all pitched in to make the Singapore national Grand Prix a success.

In the meantime, could you tell us which lap your photo (linked above) was taken?

I am not sure if this fits into this thread, but we have an Austin Seven, which used to participate with different owners in the Singapore GP historic or vintage race.
I was told, that those events were support races at the GP - is that right ?
The Austin was owned / driven first by Peter Hughes, then by Vivian Harris (who won the 1971 event).
At the time the car was known as the Blue Bombe, it had the Singapore reg.nr. S4304.
David Baylis bought the remains from V. Harris and had a different body made in Singapore by a craftsman named Ah Sam, in the style, but not an exact copy, of a GE Brooklands Super Sports.

If anyone would have further infos about the participation of our Austin in those events we would be very thankful.

Ralf
