Re-reading Christopher Hilton 's "Alain Prost" I've found this:

"Zandvoort, 4 June (1979) (...) Dallest locked Prost in a bedroom five floors up before the start of the race and Prost had to batter his way out. Good, honest prankmanship (...) On overall times he (Prost) beat Mauro Baldi by 17 seconds".

It sounds intriguing. Please, does anybody knows something more about that?

Many thanks in advance.

So you can't keep a good man down... even by locking him up in his hotel room.

Edward.

Dallest is one of those guys who I always thought should've got to F1, he made the AGS F2 cars look very good on occasion, but never really seemed to be part of the French production line of well-backed drivers in the 70s/early 80s - what went wrong for him?

IIRC, he only seemed to show well in the wet. Or was that just the AGS?

Wasn't it at the traditional Bouwes Hotel?

I always wondered why he was NEVER considered for a F1 drive by any of the teams. He was very obviously a talented driver, not only did he make the AGS look good, he even managed to make the Merzario and Merzario Marches look good on occasion. AFAIK he was never even considered by the works F2 teams. Truly a case of wasted talent...

Does anyone have the Auto Hebdo nÂș 167, of the second week of June 1979? Maybe there is some clue there. Unfortunately, I only have only one Auto Hedbo and that is of 1995...

Despite regarding Dallest as a talent, I personally think that the 'Frenchman who got away' of that same era was Patrick Gaillard.

Ok; he did a couple of GPs, but the Ensigns he drove weren't exactly the best tools with which to 'strut your stuff' and impress...

Twinny :)

Did Richard Dallest ever drive a Formula 1 ?
I don't think so, but I can be wrong.
