Is this the end of Reims?!

I was surprised because there have been 8 or 9 people with maps and such things there which were discussing a lot. What I have understand well was, that one of the older guys said to a woman that the problem is that there are a lot of idiots visiting this place every day and one can wait until one is braking his neck while climbing on the grandstands. I hope that the will not destroy this remarkable place.
The funny thing was, that I have met one guy from England near to the grand stand who was amazed as much as I was. I asked him if he is from TNF, but he wasn’t. Later he asks me if I am from South Africa, maybe because of my Austrian accent.
Photos will follow soon.

I've asked a friend from Reims if he was going and he replied he had other plans this Summer.
1+1= I didn't hallucinate:)

Must be more 'effluent' in the States 'cause what they may paint there, in Europe they half inch & sell,

REIMS GRAND PRIX CIRCUIT MEMORABILIA ITEM.
You are bidding for a piece of mosaic from the BP sign on the floor of the entrance to the clubhouse at the Reims GP cicuit.
The Reims - Gueux Grand Prix circuit was used from 1925 to 1970 for the French Grand Prix.
All the great names in motor racing history have walked over this mosaic.
The piece measures 2 1/2" x 2" and comes with a 6" x 4" print of the mosaic.

I'm really upset but I guess it's too late now to get it back...

You could always contact ebay to tell them it is very probably stolen property.

It's not the first time that guy is selling a piece of the BP mosaic, apparently.
The mayor got the mosaic removed and placed it in a safe place as the buildings are the town property.

Are there some relics, of the same kind of Gueux or the timing-tower at Chimay, in the US?
(There are some interesting old amusement-parks here!)

The US doesn't have as strong a tradition of public-road circuits as in Europe, and I don't know of anything similar to the Gueux complex here. However, there are plenty of abandoned permanent tracks or the vestiges of former circuits, if you know where to look.

Pils, just did this one last week. It can be added as a day trip if your schedule permits. You will enjoy the visit:

The former Lakewood Speedway just south of Atlanta is also a nice visit. Search here for photos and information.
Both of these tracks still have the concrete main grandstands plus other interesting features.

Here is an satellite image
As far as Cumberland MD, the only permanent "racing facility" would be the slate dump hill that was used for spectator seating. Now mostly covered with scrub and trees.

Unfortunately, the Google translation is no better than my French...
Have there ever been prints made of the JMF / Gonzales photo? One of those would look nice on the study wall...
What do you think JMF is saying to MT? Caption anyone? What is the Bull thinking?

How far did the new "housing estate" encroach in the end, dare I ask???

I really must refresh my French - it's 40-odd years now since I did it in school. Maybe I should persuade the boss (aka "She who must be obeyed", etc) that we should pay visits to Le Mans (not for the trains), Monaco (not for the casino), Spa (not for the waters) and Magny Cours (not for any reason i can think of)Originally posted by Stefan Schmidt

Though I've visited the Reims circuit only once, it was for the '61 French GP, a day I shall never forget.
I'm still a francophile and hope that the grounds are not bulldozed into oblivion.

Loved the clip of '61 Thillois: even though I couldn't pick myself out of the shot, it was a wonderful memory to realize I was among those sweating spectators. And I assume the driver valiantly pushing his Ferrari was Phil Hill?

2 Laps at Circuit de Reims Gueux - 1 1/2 Track Versions
Excellent. Many thanks for posting this.
For those of us yet to visit the site, its quite an eye-opener so see the mix of familiar and modern features.
That first corner must have been something else at full bore in a T70 at night....
Pity about the modern roundabouts but still so much of the place is as-was.
How about a lap of the pre-war circuit that ran into Geux itself ?

Next time - the road through the village was closed because of a building site
