Got my premier pass via the postman this morning  but no other details.

The website still isn't up yet...but should be
www.silverstoneclassic.com
I got my ticket from the normal Silverstone site - only £20 (advance price) for the weekend - and the first 1500 advance tickets get 'premier pass' roving seats in the Woodcote grandstand.

The Silverstone Classic - 17 races celebrating motor racing's greatest from the 30's to the 80's.

Anyone got any further details of who/what is going to be there?

This was a great day out last year. I'm trying to persuade the wife to let me go (or come along with) this year.

I'm particularly interested in seeing the various BRM's, and from the current race entry lists I can see that there should be a P160, P180, P126 and possibly a P261.

Of course, the car I would love to see the most is the V16 (P15 - or was that just the engine?). I have only seen one being demonstrated in Bourne, at the BRM 50th anniversary demonstration, but I would love to see one at speed on a circuit.

I guess that it would be eligible for entry in the Tony Brooks Race for pre 1966 Grand Prix cars, but I'm also guessing that the V16 is prohibitively expensive (and difficult) to run.

There are some great photos from last years event in this thread. The highlight for me was obviously the P201

I'll try to find out if the BRM is running. I've only seen it in action once, and that was at a Silverstone Festival some years ago. I simply couldn't believe the noise - it just seemed to cut straight through me.

The classic is looking to be quite something actually. All grids are now completely full, which means a total of something approaching 500 different cars racing. Should be impressive stuff.

Anyone here going along?

Yes I hope that too, Ted. They have a pretty attractive package available for the clubs, and I'm extremely heartened by the attitude of the team behind the event - many of the same faces from when the Silverstone Festival was at its best.

One thing that won't be at this year's event is the rally stage competition in the evening. Apparently the rally stage is out of use at present. Always used to be a wonderful way to wind up the Saturday evening - I have very fond memories of that from years gone by.

I'll be there, all being well. Am I right in thinking that Rob Hall won't be there in the P201?! Bit of a bugger that, as that was the highlight for me last year... Still, I guess the P160, 180 and sisters will be enough of a fix.  BTW I think the last time the rally stage was used was in 2001 for a round of the never-to-be-completed Rallysprint series...

As far as I am concerned the only ommmision from the meeting is a round of the Orwell Supersports Cup - and I can't make Brands the weekend before.

Look forward to meting more TNF ers Any sugestions for a meeting point?

Latest release on the Silverstone Classic below. If anyone objects to me posting these from time to time, then please do say. If this is indeed the largest ever Grand Prix paddocks, what would be the second largest?

"The Silverstone Classic

Round 6 of the 2005 FIA World Championship
for TGP heads to Silverstone targeting the world’s largest 40 car F1 grid
as part of an astonishing line-up of over 100 Grand Prix race cars!

One of the largest Grand Prix race car paddocks ever assembled is heading for Silverstone on 30 / 31 July for the new-look Silverstone Classic - a spectacular weekend celebration of motorsport from the 1930s to the 1980s.

Over 100 Grand Prix cars from 4 categories (7 races), covering six decades and almost every make of GP car ever raced, will provide a stunning paddock display at The Home of British Motor Racing. Almost every race will be at full capacity, with a 44-car grid guaranteeing fast, competitive racing around Silverstone’s world famous 3.144 mile Historic Grand Prix circuit.

A special start grid of 40 cars has been approved by the FIA for the TGP race, using the historic fast section at Club corner and the current F1 section at Abbey. 32 cars are currently registered for this race with further entries arriving on a daily basis. The TGP organisers are confident of staging one of their largest Championship grids ever.

Competitors from over 10 countries, including Japan, USA and Brazil, will compete for the famous Silverstone International Trophy. The race has attracted special sponsorship from Minichamps, Grand Prix Legends and Cosworth, creating one of the longest ever race titles: “The Silverstone International Trophy race sponsored by Minichamps Grand Prix Legends for Round 6 of the 2005 FIA Thoroughbred Grand Prix World Championship powered by Cosworth” (spare a thought for the commentators!).

In addition to the expected TGP battles between Tyrrell, Ferrari, Williams, Arrows and Minardi, a family duel will also be fought out between American drivers John Delane and his son Ryan. Both John and Ryan will be competing for team Hall & Hall, driving Jackie Stewart’s Tyrrell 001 and a Tyrrell 006 respectively.

The pedigree continues throughout the TGP race with the 6-wheeled Tyrrell P34 of Martin Stretton running alongside Le Mans racer John Bosch’s ex-Gilles Villeneuve Ferrari 312 T3 and the iconic JPS liveried Lotus 72. From the later 1980s period, fans will enjoy seeing the TAG Heuer / Leyland Williams FW07 and 08s, the ex-Mansel/de Angelis Lotus 9, Arrows A3, 4 & 6, Minardi and the Benetton Tyrrell back on the Grand Prix circuit doing what they do best – race.

In addition, 1930s to 1980s Grand Prix cars from Alfa Romeo, Arrows, Bentley, Brabham, BRM, Bugatti, Connaught, Cooper, Ensign, ERA, Ferrari, Hesketh, Lotus, Maserati, Matra, McLaren, Minardi, Surtees, Tyrell, Williams and Wolf will line up to race in the event’s most comprehensive programme of historic and classic motor sport.

17 races will be packed into the huge paddock complex at Silverstone, with two extra paddock areas being created especially for the event. The 500 plus car entry, with more than 700 drivers, is set to be one of the world’s largest and most valuable gatherings of historic motor racing cars. All three paddocks will be open FREE of charge to visitors enabling them to get up close and personal with some of the best loved racing cars in the world.

The extensive two-day timetable of action-packed racing will be complemented by a festival programme of activity for all ages and motoring interests in the centre of the circuit. Air displays, classic racing motorcycle displays, art/photo gallery, trade stalls, club car displays, a period fun fair, BRDC 500 RetroRun, children’s entertainment and the much enjoyed Scarf & Goggles with its live music and BBQ all add to the unique atmosphere of The Silverstone Classic - one of Silverstone’s most enjoyable events of the season.

Event sponsors, the worlds fastest growing Auction House, Bonhams, will be holding a special auction of racing cars, related memorabilia and automobilia on Saturday afternoon with viewing available all day Friday and Saturday morning. Please visit www.bonhams.com for details.

Joint sponsors Classic & Sports Car and MotorSport magazines will be at the heart of the circuit displays providing classic and historic racing car advice and information, plus supporting the many Classic Car Club owner displays, including Ferrari OC, Alfa Romeo OC, MG Car Club, Jaguar XK & E-Type Clubs, Maserati Club, Porsche Club GB, Lotus Register and many more.

Advance admission prices start from just £10.00 (if booked in advance) with grandstand seating, centre access, parking and access for children (aged 15 and under) ALL FREE.

I have brought this thread back to prominence in case anyone else is going and wants to know about meeting places.

PLEASE wear your TNF badge if you have one, even if you are not meeting the rest of us at Ted's.

It gives us a good excuse to look at the front of people's shirts as they go by - looking for badges, you understand? Just looking for badges!

I've got a death-trap of a car at the moment....and my 2 assistants off sick ( having just posted on the premonitions thread  ....if this is a sign, I'm doing my best to ignore it).
Certainly seems that every obstacle is being put in my way to not attend this.

However, I do my best to be there :) ....not least because I was one of the first to buy my ticket :p

Stacks of F1s too - so many, you don't know which way to turn! :) Just said hi to Ryan Delane who posts here on TNF, and apologised to Ted for missing him at Shelsley.

I've been on site all day today, and it was very pleasant. Wind not too strong and nice and dry - a marked change from yesterday.

Weather forecast from the BBC is really looking rather good - should be a great weekend ahead. The paddock is absolutely packed with cars...

Anyone arriving in a classic this morning will probably see me waving them into the C&SC car park as well.

I can second that.

It was better than I thought it would be (and I thought it would be good).

Some of the racing was awesome - the lead battle in Group C - GTP racing being a case in point.

With so much to see I'm heading off a lot earlier today!

Enjoyed Saturday immensely, especially seeing the GP Masters and the TGP cars up close.

This was my first visit to Silverstone since, I think, '98. It really has improved, hasn't it? Last time I was there I thought the place was really run down, but everything's much better now - approach roads, car parks, toilets, catering. I was impressed!

A great weekend. Was helping out Simon Pullan's family run Kremer 962 in the Group C - GTP races. Simon had a bagfull of understeer yesterday, but we took some camber out of the front and he drove a great race for a podium today :-)

The TGP field was spectacular, as was a glorious field of Chevron B16s, Lolas, and GT40s in the morning. Apparently there was an F1 race this weekend but I can't say I was bothered about missing it.

Good to see all you chaps (and chapess!) over the last couple of days outside Ted's gaff. I even nearly met Bumblyari - he took our pics, and promptly buggered off! I'd have sought you out, Ben, if you'd told me you were there! Brands next weekend, maybe?

A couple of unfortunate incidents took the shine off the weekend for our brethren; Barry brought along his 1/12 scale Connew, lovingly created over many years, only to have some careless nob convert it into kit form. A similar fate befell Gary C, who was unlucky to be one of the first to hit oil through Woodcote this morning, with a bent Nike and a DNS the result... I'm sure you'll hear their personal renditions in due course.

I thought the meeting was excellent, and congratulations are in order to all concerned - including, of course, our newish (and very popular) member Stuart Forrest, who was working his 'nads off all weekend. Well done, chap.

Finally, my personal high was seeing another pal of mine - MAWP - doing a grand job in the F5000 races, but sadly mechanical woes intervened on both occasions. The low - without doubt - was the dearth of active BRMs. To see P160-01 - the 1971 Italian GP winner, for chrissakes - not only devoid of track time, but abandoned in a... flower bed. That's just too much; and, to cap it all, it even had black wheels!

Just arrived home. Great weekend - far surpassed my own expectations in so many ways. Good to meet those of you that I was finally able to, and apologies for never quite making it to Ted's when I was supposed to be there. Running the stand, a reader's car park, a hospitality suite trying to see everyone that I needed to AND see some racing was probably, in hindsight, rather ambitious.

I've heard that the chap in the HRG was badly injured but will be OK, and I must admit that it rather took the shine off one of my favourite races. F5000's were absolutely astonishing, and the Group C rolling start today was fantastic.

Cheers for the beer Twinny, and thanks Barry for my badge. I've been wearing it with pride all day!

...and I duly apologise for my [rather inappropriate] BRM whinge.

I'd heard he'd 'only' hurt his hand, and I'm very sad to learn that his condition is perhaps worse than that.

Here's wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

I must have been the first retiree today! Out on circuit at 08.45, into the wall at Woodcote at 08.50!! It didn't help that there was a huge oil slick on the exit of Woodcote (laid down by the Chairman of the HSCC, no less!), which I managed to encounter on just about full throttle. Needless to say, a full 360-degree spin and a head-on meeting with the concrete barrier resulted!
A bit of damge to the car, new rad and a bit of straightening out, and we should be ok. It was good, nevertheless, to meet up with a few of the Boys at Ted's place at lunchtime!
