Do somebody remember when was introduced covers for front wing (and rear too) to hide set ups from rivals? My memory telling me sometime around 1997.

Well I don't remember clearly about the last years.

In 1968 we got the huge wings and Brabham had one of the hugest and largest wing ever hidden under some kind of cover at Brands Hatch 1968. Turned to be a joke with a large broom. A attached two pics with it to show you.

F1 is late with this.

It was done in CART / USAC back in the sixties, literaly as soon as wings were invented

Unfortunately this may not be the best place to ask for modern era info. :smoking:

Years around 1997 also could be a nostalgia time. Depends on point of view.
By the way, I didn´t find any better place to ask.

The first time I remember seeing covers used to hide wings was at the Surfers Indycar race in 1992, but I have no doubt that they were used long before that.

Given that all F1 teams design their own cars - and consequently, wings - hiding the wings wouldn't have been as crucial as it would have been in CART where most teams run the same chassis. Then, as aero tweaks and wing designs became more important, the desire to prevent other teams from getting good quality photographs of said wings increased.

You are absolutely correct. However, I don't think that if you asked for a show of hands here as to whom would include it within the realm of "nostalgia," that you would get all that many in agreement. Again, it is a matter of what your point of view is, not whether or not it is or isn't. I have no clue since I really wasn't paying all that much attention by 1997 or so. However, as mentioned, such ploys are as old as racing.....
